I am looking forward to your more detailed review regarding temperature of processor and GPU

Added on April 14, 2010, 10:34 pmoh yea....
can you enlighten me whether the VT-X is disabled in lenovo Y460 by default and there is no way to enable it in bios?!
*
Yes, VT is disabled by default but you can enable it. It's been answered at NBR for quite sometime.

33C is quite cool, did you use cooler pad?
is the temperature consistent for several hours?
*
Consistency doesn't exist on measuring temperature especially on a PC/laptop. I've seen the temp averaging 36-38C with office work on Intel GMA. For ATI I didn't have more time but it seems there's not much huge difference, around 40-43C with office work I should say but will further test tomorrow. At 1st when using default OS, I did use coolerpad, but I didn't turn it on after I finished install new OS just to see how the heat reacts.

yup2...just bought mine at pc fair today as well..doesnt come with any cds...had to make own recovery cds...but if i dont make one?! i still can recover my windows to factory by using Lenovo OneKey Recovery key on the laptop rite?! correct me if im wrong..

Added on April 17, 2010, 10:41 pmand the D (LENOVO) partition is for recovery rite?! can i still use the partition for saving some files??!
*
the partition D which by the name Lenovo is just a standard partition with drivers in it so you can delete it if you want. Just make sure you have backup those files 1st. Recovery partition is hidden on My Computer unless you go under disk management to check it out, Hope that helps smile.gif . The OneKey Recovery button does help you do the recovery but the thumbs down part is that if you can't login your windows because of partition corrupt, windows system file corrupt, RAW windows partition etc, you still need to do it the usual way by installing an OS then install the OneKey Recovery to do the recovery shakehead.gif .

EDIT:I'm finding a way to re-assign my partition since you can't create another partition except under Extended Partition. Will try to use Linux mostly, hmmm hmm.gif

If you're using normal DVDRs that might affect the outcome. Try use branded ones like Mitsubishi, Imation, or Sony.

how about the drivers? if the lenovo junks cleared, the touch key still working?
*
The touch recovery system should work like this: press recovery button ----> 3 options available, System Backup, System Recovery and Creative Recovery Disc ----> select system recovery -----> reboot system into recovery mode which is inside the OEM recovery partition, if you've re-format/Clean/Delete your HDD, then you'll get an error during rebooting system since recovery partition is gone.

So, how is the heat for this laptop?? Reasonable?? or just plain hot sweat.gif..need some feedback as my friend want to get one smile.gif
*
Will answer some of your questions based on my observation. In a room with air circulation with fan only, heat on CPU will be ave 49-52C, with ATI GPU ave 52-54C during idle, heat is there but not HOT. Will get more into that later Monday/Tuesday smile.gif

how about the touch key like volume and one click theatre without the software?

when first use the C: (windows) partition is about 400+GB right, let say i shrink it into 200GB and another 200GB(E:) to store files. and im going to reformat, will the system format the E: as well? how they know which is the target partition to install? and how to create partition during installation? must boot with CD?
*
Good question. 1st of all, your scenario won't apply because you only can have 3 primary partitions in your HDD, which your C:, OEM partition, and System Reserved already occupied those. If you want to create more than 3 partitions, you'll have to create an Extended partition where you can add a few more inside which in Y460's case, it's the D: and has 30+GB only....... shakehead.gif ( trying my way to re-assign using linux)

I haven't really tried the OneKey recovery system so I can't confirm if it'll delete your E: or not, but most of the recovery system will target C: as it's the boot system. Let us know if you did it though nod.gif

yeah, with the bag as well... btw, good choice bro (... so far la), i've been eyeing for a laptop for quite some time. from c2d to i7, from i7 to i5, from dell ati 4000 series to 5000 (still at 5470), from i5-520m to i5-540m, and lastly i gave up waiting for sxps to refresh their gpus... but i also know with this spec, they won't settle if without chopping us customers 4.5k at least...
i'm not sure... it's a risk though... anyone have any idea?
did u managed to create the recovery discs?
the heat is the 1st thing i notice when i on the notebook for the first time. it's very noticeable compared to my old buddy. but then again, heat is not a problem to me because i don't buy notebook for the coolness. it is supposed to do what it is meant to do (that is to be your working slave), so don't need to go cracking your head over it.
did you get that error before?
*
I cloned my drive on my ext. HDD. I want fast solutions XD which is why I didn't burn the CDs. I got a few errors especially on HP but some of those are because of HDD faulty i.e. recovery partition corrupted also. If possible, try recover your system and see how it goes. Sometimes you do need to sacrifice to get your answer tongue.gif .

tyvm for info smile.gif, but i just bought it with i5 540 / 4g ram  for 3599 including bag plus 8 gifts. that's the best price i could get in lowyat after doing the whole survey tour, u

can get it without the gifts for 3574 but in another shop.

also if anyone interested to buy the same model but with i5 430 including 4 g ram the best price you can get including the gifts is 3471 rm

( basic price 3299 + gifts) + 172 rm (2 g ram) ........ all together = 3471 rm,

with  just 2 g ram you can get it for 3299 rm

good luck to anyone interested. by the way the shop is Jayacom information sdn.bhd (JCI) last floor.
to tell you the truth the difference between i5 430 and 540 does matter for me, plus its only 129 rm extra. in the long term it will make a difference tongue.gif
*
Gratz on your purchase smile.gif. Do let us know too if you're having the same problem when you operate it the 1st time with more heat than usual. I'll be posting some results this midnight if possible.

Hows the sound on this lappy? does the JBL speakers perform good enough?

TQ
*
I only used the speaker while watching Transformer 2 HD and it performed beyond what I expected. Clear sounds with no distorted highs and loud with no irritating hissing. Even you sit a bit far apart you'll hear it loud and clear. thumbup.gif

The laptop is very hot when stress. Even idle, also not so comfortable w the heat. doh.gif

I still don't quite understand why you guys having these issue hmm.gif . Do you switch on ATI GC all the time? If you're on Intel GMA, what's the idle temp? If it's more than 55C on GMA, then you must have a lot of background apps running.

This is my temp just now.

I currently have 84 processes running and the temp stay there most of the time. If more than 55C, yea it become warm. starting 65C, you'll feel the hot air pushing out from the vent.

Most probably. That is why I only open the laptop in aircond environment.  sweat.gif  sweat.gif

Do note I'm using it in my room with no air cond. If you're on 55C and above idle using Intel GMA, might as well do a re-format/clean installation if possible and check back your temp. hmm.gif

I wanted to use Ultimate/Professional because of XP mode. That's why I did a clean installation w/o touching the recovery partition and D:. Flavor?? what kind?? smile.gif

if not mistaken that is the south bridge of HM55, it is really hot
if what i say is true, then i guess all the laptop with HM55 will also get the same temp as y460
The SB on Y460/4820TG is siting far apart from CPU/GPU so even it's heated up, I don't think it'll do more than 60C unless you're in a non air circulated room. The main heat generates still remain on the CPU/GPU combo.
