hmm... after reading 16 pages about reformatting with bloat-ware free installation method. I still don't know how to do it. Forgive me for i have only started getting interested in computers both software and hardware not too long ago. I am really interested in y460. I'm not bothered by the heat as much as the effects of high temperature to the laptop (eg. shorter shelflife). Where can i get someone to do a good & clean installation that kills off the bloat-wares w/o disabling all the touch features and OKR?

Added on May 4, 2010, 1:51 amAlso, is it possible to manually uninstall ALL bloat-ware w/o reformatting or clean installation?

Teach?? We can share our experience if you like to smile.gif. Hmmm, if possible you can do your own observation of your laptop's temperature to see how efficient your temp would go. Mine at home, non air cond room, CPU min 39-41C, load 49-51C, max 66-68C(gaming). Monitor your temp does help you know that your laptop is working happily or sad/anger(heavy load lol...)

I do found out an answer(I guess...) why some people complaint about heat especially during gaming if you're in for hours. I've played AC 2 just now for 2 hours+ with max temp I checked it's just 72C on GPU-Z(ave. 68C). The problem lies on the material of the glossy surface which do hold the heat w/o spreading fast enough thru the other parts like heatsink and causes you felt uncomfortable using the keyboard for longer period especially FPS gaming. I do amaze the max temperature it hit smile.gif. Thanks to bro gstoh regarding tips on switching to super saver mode before you game and you'll see/feel the difference.

@rubrubrub

No doubt Y460 still reign the best bang for the buck in 3k-4k range for these 2 months. If you can wait for others, it's fine, but how long would it be? I've been waiting to replace my old laptop since late March and I still think Vostro 3700 is an unbeatable laptop in terms of price/performance, too bad my order got postponed and I had to cancel it. It's good to know some specs do excel against Y460, but NONE of them officially make/selling it in M'sia atm.

Technology will grow daily and you can't wait forever to get your decent laptop. Just pick what's available in the market, if no, go for desktop then lol.

thank you for the invaluable advice. i'll be buying mine in June hopefully. until then i'll have more to post (mostly questions on how to operate the machine). hahah i regretted for not immersing myself into technology in the earlier years.

For the rm3599 version, the processor is very good already, especially for gaming, and when you are using applications that don't utilize quad core. I think for lappie below rm5k that's shud be the best dual core procsessor (might be wrong)

the GC is good too, but don't expect to play all games in max setting la

battery life I don't knw, haven't try yet

all in all, it's a darn good laptop for it price, other 14" competitor are the Sony CW and EA16, asus n82jv. Specs is almost the same, but more pricey, pay for brand name lo.

Reliability I don't knw yet, still too soon to say.

Those I mentioned are 14" la, if u want/don't mind bigger screen, then u got more option smile.gif

yeah the last thing i want to do it pay for brand names. hahah i heard from a dude in MV, he said it's about 4 hours but he's selling the 540 at rm3799.

Why don't you get from our forum member?
Go search for the seller in garage sale (ahem, he's from T**ping). He quoted me RM3500 for Y460 + RM30 hassle-free postage to your door step.

how bout warranty and free gifts and card payment? what if the laptop came faulty? i know it's a lot of questions at one time but enlighten me. =)

Try change the AF setting to none and see how it performs. Try use High Performance mode and see how it goes too. smile.gif As for GPU-Z, even the latest version isn't able to accurately detect most mobile graphic's spec.

@synz

What kinda sound you're mentioning? HDD? Fan?
Btw, I've confirmed you can OC HD 5650 to 5730 w/ the same heat produce(idle/load) so it's safe  thumbup.gif
*
probably a noob question but how do u overclock hd 5650?

oh man, i'm back with a dilemma. which one should i go for?

y460 - RM3499

i5-540
HD 5650 (slightly more powerful with direct x 11)
14" HD
win7HP
4gb RAM
JBL speaker (awesome speaker)

or
5745g- RM3699

i7-720q ( 4 cores and 8 threads!)
GT330m
15" HD ( an inch bigger )
win7HP
4gb RAM
3rd optimized dolby speaker

The basic comparison but if any of u guys have more on ur mind, pls advise me cuz i'm in a deep dilemma which one to go for. go for HD5650 with better graphic and better battery life because it has switchable graphic option or i7-720Q for better multitasking at the expense of 200 ringgit more? Moreover Lenovo's JBL speaker is so much better than acer's. Still, they both have heating issues (if i'm wrong pls correct me). which one has a better built quality? thank you for reading this guys.

@gstoh

I know, it's impossible. they only offered me the standard gifts where u can get it at 3599 and 3499 without them.
oh even some said it comes with 2gb RAM at 3699. either they don't know their stuff or they just wanna con me la. it's the first time i visit lowyat in many years. so disappointing and so many middle easterns have occupied those shops. (not a racist remark, just a simple fact)

For MW2 you can use gstoh's trick to underclock the CPU while retaining the GPU performance w/o making your system heat up much. For my test, it mainly @70-72C.

which post is that? and what if i play in airconditioned room and with notepad cooler all the time.

Added on July 1, 2010, 12:30 ammoreover, what software should i download to check my temperature? and does the warranty covers overheating?

y460 user.. try to force the cpu to run at low freq , 1.3GHz .. and run some game test.. you will see the temperature is same as normal laptop =D
this is what i found, however the game FPS will not really drop,
test it then you will know it! XD

through this setting, you don need worry about heat issue when gaming lol
*
is power management the same thing with energy management? how do i force the cpu speed down to 1.3? that is so low.
