Hey guys, I'm still on the fence between the Y460 and the N82, but i wanna clarify, are the Y460's ATI drivers dependable? Because I read somewhere that the NVidia manual switching graphics like on the M11x will be phased out because of Optimus, does the Y460 face the same problem with its ATI switchable graphics? Does the driver get good support? Thanks all!

QUOTE(jotaro12 @ Apr 28 2010, 11:23 PM) ATI didn't announce any automatic switching graphics between apps/games atm so far. They did mention they'll have monthly update for mobile graphics which is a good news(just not sure how true that is hehe, plus some OEMs don't allow ATI to interfere the OEMs' customized hardware driver bcoz of various concerns like battery life, interaction between other hardware, heating issues etc). Same goes to nVidia. I do think the M11x will go into that route eventually, just not sure when will that be... Better get N61 rather than N82 unless you need a 14 inch or below lappy. The N61 is way over my budget la bro, the N82 is already peaking my budget limit, fortunately the Y460 fits perfectly. So, what you are trying to say is, the Y460's graphic drivers are relatively safe, and ATI claims they'll update the drivers regularly, but I should only get the drivers from Lenovo because of the customizations. So, is Lenovo's driver support reliable? I have no experience at all with Lenovo/IBM products, sorry for the trouble..

QUOTE(jotaro12 @ May 1 2010, 01:51 PM) @leng2 Actually Razer doesn't have wireless model of backlit keyboard. I haven't encounter any so far (thought the Logitech Illuminated keyboard was wireless, but it isn't, sigh...) I'm pretty sure Razer doesn't have a wireless KB, much less a wireless backlit one. I agree with jataro12, the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard is B-E-A-TIFUL!, but not wireless.. sad.. I heard Microsoft has a wireless backlit one, but I can't seem to find it, even on the Microsoft website... btw.. so off topic...

Hey guys, noob question: I want to put an SSD into the Y460, but unfortunately I don't have a budget to buy a high capacity one, probably only could afford a 80GB disk. Is the laptop limited to only 1 slot and do you think it would be worth the hassle to use an 80GB SSD only?
Storage isn't my main concern btw, all my movies and songs are mostly on the externals. But I do play alot of games, which could take up alot of space...

QUOTE(jotaro12 @ May 7 2010, 02:40 PM) For me, it's still not the time to replace my HDD to SSD just a simple fact, capacity. You'll love the speedy boot up, transfer files and accessing HDD but in end, capacity will be your main concern which most games and programs take up many spaces within few months. You can store your programs on another external drive but it's not the best solution imo. Btw, SSD doesn't make much of a difference in gaming. Hrmm, you have a point, the price/capacity ratio is way too screwed up for SDDs. But, IINM the Y460 comes with a 500GB 5200RPM HD, would the performance boost be noticable if I change it to a 7200RPM unit? Coz I multitask alot and I really appreciate the speedy access times. An SSD would probably reduce alot of heat and increase battery life at the same time., although the price is still too high and the capacity is too low... hrmm... Bro, you sound like an ambassador or a priest from the temple of SSD.. heh.. jk chill. But yeah, can't deny the facts that its a big performance boost. If the Y460 has 2 HD bays, it would be a no brainer, but unfortunately has only 1.. so, have to think about it abit.. I might go for it tho, an 80GB module could be bearable... just...

QUOTE(jotaro12 @ May 23 2010, 12:23 PM) I'm on new Y460 BIOS if you've read last few pages. I'm on discrete graphic now rather than switchable graphic which you can set on BIOS. If you want mobility then switchable is the way to go. Gamers or like me, who rarely bring out my lappy and game a few, discrete is a better choice, by mean you still need to know how to maintain your lappy's heat management. I didn't tune anything, just bro gstoh's CPU tip with default GPU clock(might try OC to 5730 later and see the difference on new BIOS) This is very very interesting, although I'll miss the switchable graphics and battery life. Btw, what is gstoh's CPU tip? heh....

QUOTE(jotaro12 @ May 23 2010, 06:15 PM) Just a tip to underclock CPU by using Lenovo's power management. to reduce heat.. is it effective? is the performance drop drastic?
