QUOTE(leng2 @ Apr 26 2010, 09:44 AM) hmm... from what i have surveyed in the past (just 1week+ ago), y460 seems to come with win7hp, compulsory... leaving no options for freedos. topup for ultimate seems impossible too. if you already have a win7u, you can transfer it to your laptop tho, by changing the key after you reinstall. no, I dont have the win7 CD, but since the laptop does not come with the win7 disc, doing a clean install of windows7 will be a pain in ass since i need to download win7 myself, and burn it into DVD ma (download 4gb ++ leh)so if ada shipped with DOS, i can beli win7 myself that comes with CD lo, easier for me to format @@ unless someone can teach me how to backup the OS itself nia? without all the junkware then good la |

QUOTE(leng2 @ Apr 26 2010, 12:07 PM) hmm... i would say y460 is a good buy if you're really in need of a laptop now. the things that comes with it is pretty standard and some desirable (e.g. hdmi, bluetooth, switchable graphics, i5-i540, ati hd5650). only thing that might put you off is the 500gb (5000rpm), 1.3mp webcam, could-be-better keyboard). i see...am using an quite old dell (T7250 core2 duo 2GHZ, 2gb of ram and 160gb of hdd only)about the drivers, it's best that you download... dun be so malas to download... i also spent quite a no. of days understanding the laptop. btw, i applied lcd screen guard (rm14) and failed with some bubble trapped (due to last minute dust getting inside). had to scratch the bubble out and the lcd screen guard pun look like scratched... =.=" i wonder the film can be removed and how??? i also diy'ed a palm skin from the transparent film (slightly adhesive) used to protect new printers' shiny parts. just cut the shape and hide the uneven cuts into the edges of the keyboard. a good temporary solution to keep the laptop from scratches. editing pictar using this is really slow , but for normal office work is ok la... btw, thanks both leng2 and wztech |

QUOTE(lee_what2004 @ Apr 27 2010, 10:38 AM) 1. Its glossy. Hardly to find non-glossy on consumer notebook nowadays... if not mistaken, all windows 7 CD got all version of windows inside, and you can choose which version to install2, Let the others answer 3. If its the same version, its possible. so you can surely use your key to activate and install it |

QUOTE(jotaro12 @ Apr 27 2010, 12:38 PM) That applies to Windows Vista only. All Win 7 retail & OEM DVDs will follow their own version's respectively, there's no version selection before installation and after finish installation, it'll straight away ask you to enter product key(even tho you didn't enter the key, you'll still getting the same version that your DVD has, i.e. Windows 7 Home Premium DVD -> Windows 7 Home Premium only.) Other than that, it's not advisable to discuss here. oh, never know that....goodi might upgrade mine to win 7 professional though on whatever laptop i gona get |

QUOTE(jotaro12 @ Apr 28 2010, 07:08 PM) Only Dell provide upgrade options because they'll build your system after you ordered/customized. Other OEMs will get their own OS that come with the box, so limited upgrade options. means i cant even upgrade myself by purchasing the upgrade from microsoft? QUOTE(jotaro12 @ Apr 28 2010, 08:48 PM) You are able to do the upgrade, just not from the OEM factory --> means you have to re-install the OS(recommended) or can try the windows anytime upgrade(not sure if it works). yea, i will definitely reinstall it (format and doing a clean install)just want to ask, how much extra need to pay nia from home premium to professional i know if just buy win7 professional is rm500 like that, but if i aready got home premium, upgrade to professional also need rm500 aR? |

QUOTE(jotaro12 @ Apr 28 2010, 09:23 PM) Correct, because it's another license unless the laptop OEM does provide OS selections before you purchase. The license from branded OEMs(Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer etc) is different from the license you bought from retailers so it cannot be mix/added together. oh i see....sigh, thats bad Added on April 28, 2010, 9:47 pmoh btw, since my windows7 shud be 64bit , and if i got a program that only supports windows 7 32bit, can i run it at 32bit mode? i was told by the program supplier that i cant do so ,and i can only wait them to release the 64bit driver :S This post has been edited by samlee860407: Apr 28 2010, 09:47 PM |

QUOTE(jotaro12 @ Apr 28 2010, 10:43 PM) Most 32bit programs are able to install onto a 64bit system under the program files(x86) folder. Most of the recent 32bit programs do run fine under Win 7 64bit, i.e. Firefox, VLC player or recent games like SF4, BFBC2, Metro 2033, Assassin Creed 2 etc. Some programs might not work well with 64bit if they don't update/upgrade their versions to cope with. I would suggest you to install your software just to see if it does work like usual. yea, guess thats what i can do onlyif really cant then just have to get prof version Added on April 29, 2010, 2:00 pmwoot my y460 is here! QUOTE(jotaro12 @ Apr 29 2010, 05:20 PM) For touch sense buttons, it's better to install all of them. Even though you only need the OneKey Recovery, it'll take a while to figure out why the button won't function after you've installed it hm...which one are you sayinG?i install everything from D drive d la, all the driver ma. now left some extras nia, no time to fully test it yet @@ or do you mean i need to install everything under "software" from here: http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/in/en/Dr...ID=955740&OS=0# those are not in the D drive , have to download liao :S |
