For me, it's still not the time to replace my HDD to SSD just a simple fact, capacity. You'll love the speedy boot up, transfer files and accessing HDD but in end, capacity will be your main concern which most games and programs take up many spaces within few months. You can store your programs on another external drive but it's not the best solution imo.
Btw, SSD doesn't make much of a difference in gaming.

Hrmm, you have a point, the price/capacity ratio is way too screwed up for SDDs. But, IINM the Y460 comes with a 500GB 5200RPM HD, would the performance boost be noticable if I change it to a 7200RPM unit? Coz I multitask alot and I really appreciate the speedy access times. An SSD would probably reduce alot of heat and increase battery life at the same time., although the price is still too high and the capacity is too low... hrmm... The performance is no where near the SSD. For notebook, upgrading to SSD will give you excellent performance gain. I can't resist to SSD now. I even upgraded to SSD for my netbook. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/830613/+1267With SSD, your notebook is no longer notebook. It's running like high performance desktop. With SSD, your netbook is no longer netbook. It's running like notebook. Get what I mean?

Later try play with normal one see how GTA 4 does require bit more juice than usual games so it's better to do a benchmark test which comes with it and see which settings play nice with HD 5650. As for keyboard lag, that might related to graphics also, but you can try switch between laptop keyboard and wireless to see the difference.

QUOTE(Izwan898 @ May 7 2010, 10:29 PM) Bro, any changes in the power consumption after changed to SSD? Should be better in theory right? Theoretically SSD should have slight lower power consumption. But i think it negligible. However, you'll find SSD runs at much lower temperature. SSD is lighter too. For notebook, there are not many parts you can replace to boost the performance. SSD becomes the most crucial upgrade for notebook & netbook. You just can't skip that. This post has been edited by ALeUNe: May 7 2010, 11:39 PM

Bro, you sound like an ambassador or a priest from the temple of SSD.. heh.. jk chill. But yeah, can't deny the facts that its a big performance boost. If the Y460 has 2 HD bays, it would be a no brainer, but unfortunately has only 1.. so, have to think about it abit.. I might go for it tho, an 80GB module could be bearable... just...

Getting Started

|
here is the test on Modern Warfare 2: NOTE: this is based on Power Plan setting - i've choose Power Saver mode (with a lil'bit changes on it's own current setting) this test also is on plug-in - without using battery if i didnt make any changes on the current setting (Power Saver mode), the temp will be a lil'bit higher (around 3c-5c) game setting: high during the test: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « after the test: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « ..next will try to test it out on SC - FA (Supreme Commander 2 - Forged Alliance) in the future, will test it out on Supreme Commander 2, Dirt 2 .. @Mie131085 The temp on your laptop does look good but somehow I'm a bit curious why your GPU clock is lower than usual... it should be 450/800 idle and 550/800 load. If you have a screenshot on GPU-Z showing the HD 5650 info, that will let us know more .

Take out the HDD from your notebook, get an enclosure and use it as external storage. This post has been edited by ALeUNe: May 8 2010, 10:21 AM
