Blardy hell. Registered online for Byond last Thursday. Until now no1 from Astro even call to say anything. Typical Msian company.

To those who said online application is fast, then u have an example of what I have said..
No..online application is not fast..might be for some but not for this poor friend..
Bro..get on the phone and call them..sometimes online application is useless..
Calling them would be faster..

I am going to balik kampung to my grandparents home this weekend..
They dont have HDTV so no HDMI port..
They do have astro and use normal TV]
I want to bring my Byond decoder back
I know I wont get HD quality but my package is better than my grandparents
So if I bring my Byond box, remote, and smart card with me, how do i set up?
Other than connecting satellite cable to Byond decoder, what cables should I connect from TV to decoder?
What colour?
Can any sifu help?

I decline to comment until the topic of HD streaming pops up. I can understand the need to watch TV and I can see the possibility of enjoying streaming SD video. But B.yond's HD video is already encoded at 8Mbps (some people say) and that's MPEG-4 video. If you want the streaming box to sling it back to you over the internet to your notebook, you better make sure you have 8Mbps upload broadband service at home and 8Mbps download service at where ever you are. Otherwise, what you're getting is a mush of re-encoded low-bandwidth video that is re-encoded again.

slingbox - I think they re-encode stuff and have algorithms to determine compression depending on available bandwidth. It sounds like it'll never send out a signal as-is i.e no way it'll stream the HD video. You can watch the hd channel via slingbox, but it'll be re-encoded into a 1mbps stream at best

It's pretty straightforward, I believe shouldn't be a problem for you, except for ladies tongue.gif
Just note that your smart card will work with your byond decoder only.
You can also split satellite signal with splitter, so you can use both decoder at the same time. But you can watch SD channel only.
The best thing is bring your HDTV together or give to your grandpa as a gift brows.gif

OOOOOOOOOOOOOPs dont adjust your TV pal cos except for NGC the other HD channels do have some problem, maybe they are upscaled . I too notice the difference on History, HBO and some ESPN Sports compared to sound and picture of NGC hmm.gif

A lot of the documentaries shown on these channels are compiled from many different sources of video ranging from Full HD all the way down to cell phone video.

Just watching the History / NGC channel graphics / title slides etc between programmes you can tell right away that it's HD just like the other channels.

History channels sometimes use an old footage which there is no way it can be HD... only Upscale...

same goes to NGC,HBO HD.... and the sports HD channel too
