Astro Brings the Semis and Finals of Thomas and Uber Cup in HD

Astro, Malaysia’s leading Pay-TV broadcaster is the proud co-sponsor of the Malaysian National Badminton Team and the official Pay-TV broadcaster for all the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) annual events, starting with the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals 2010.

Malaysians will be able to cheer for their favourite badminton teams including the home team from May 9 to May 16, 2010 on both Astro SuperSport (Channel 811) in English commentary and Astro Arena (Channel 801) in BM commentary. For the first time ever the semi finals and the finals of the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup will be broadcast in HD on Astro SuperSport HD (Channel 831).

The draw matches between Indonesia and Australia for both Thomas and Uber Cups will be the first matches to be covered live on both Astro SuperSport and Astro Arena respectively on May 9 at 12 noon.
First ever local HD program is Thomas & Uber Cup. rclxms.gif Hopefully it not upscaled version. sweat.gif

Any recorder that can take a composite/component input to record PAL would be compatible.

We won't know until the recording capabilities of B.yond launches. But even IF (major if) B.yond DVR launches with SD recording only, that's still better than a separate DVD recorder in that you can program B.yond to change channels automatically. The only good thing that I could think of for a DVD recorder is that you can burn your program as a DVD.

Will it be a waste of money if I get a DVD recorder if Byond have the capabilities..?

My Byond was installed on 5May but because of some pairing problem between the smart card and decoder, it was only activated yesterday. sad.gif so my poor wife and son had to miss American Idol.

The signal strength is only in the 50+ % region but when I called Astro, they say that this is ok for Byond. hmm.gif Any comments anyone?

Now awaiting my Toshiba 55ZV600E, which should arrive next week, to complete the setup !! rclxm9.gif

The max strength is 255, most people will get between 200 to 250. If you are getting 50% (or around 128) it's waaaayyyy too low!

Sorry bros, the more I read the more I get confused now ..... rclxub.gif
So is it so sort of "firmware" upgrade to the current Byond box withe the "record/burn" application, so we just plug in HDD through USB and press "Record" button? What format? Can later play on PC? So we just leave the Byond on 24 hrs from now to update?? blink.gif

If really like then will be very convenient, at least I don't need the DVD recorder anymore!
But then may have to buy external HDD ler, also don't know whether Astro will charge ... hmm.gif

Oh ya ah, TallJustin's new born baby should be full moon liao right ?! tongue.gif
Hope he can help to clarify further.

Er, I not sure whether it would be waste of money or not, since I'm still very blur on the Astro recording thing & also unsure how much they will charge......

My current DVD recorder bought few years ago in HK with ACL brand name.
It come with 80G HDD can support up to 720p resolution, got many types of inputs. It record directly into the HDD, then can watch it from HDD, or from the menu can do some simple edit/combine/rename, after that can burn into DVD.

Many years ago before the DVD recorder, I was using some kind of video capture device/card to record into PC, but it was expensive and the result is not so good. With technology advancement, I'm trying to check around what kind of PC recording solution which possibly can either replace my current setup. But that will take time, so definitely I'll keep my recorders for time being.

Hope some sifu out there also can provide some idea/suggestion on movie/video recording solution nod.gif

I always prefer NTFS over FAT32 due to New Technology mah .... brows.gif
Anywhere joke aside, correct me if I'm wrong, I noticed FAT32 performance is slower for big HDD size and have problem handle single file >4G.
With HDD size become bigger & larger now a day, I always format it to NTFS.

So, you are going to by 2TB to record Worldcup?! flex.gif

True also, without more details, still don't know when is available, how to update, how to record, on what format, whether can use external HDD through USB, can support what file format (NTFS/Ext2-3/FAT) ..... so many question marks ...... rclxub.gif

I think I still use my recorder for time being ..... cool2.gif
