Because I can use custom firmware on it. Plus, all the laptops in my home are still using Wireless G.

Edit: Just looked at the user manual and confirmed the RG is actually a D-Link DIR-615 router. It seems that some models can support DD-WRT.

You will need to configure the required VLANs for your data and tv services on your router. then bind those VLANs to the physical output ports on that router..

i believe N routers are backwards compatible... ?

I think the result depends a lot on what time it is at the other side.
I did a test just now on a normal streamyx connection to San Francisco and got this result.

RM140 for 4mbps.
RM159 for 5mbps and IPTV.
Basically it's free. Not sure why people are complaining over it.

Unless they offer decent channel, I cant see what is the reason I need IPTV. Even with Astro, I barely watch it anymore. If it is not because of my parents need to watch it I already cancel Astro looong ago.

I believe the IPTV will require us to pay extra subscription fees to TM in the future if we want to get "quality" channels. That's the reason why they are having the Video on Demand thing. Means, you make an order, den watch on your tv.. end of the money, comes the bill for all your VOD purchases..

too bad no "skin flicks" VOD here tongue.gif (if u know what i mean).

It's expensive, that's why.

If it's like:

RM77 for 4Mbps

RM88 for 5Mbps (WITHOUT IPTV),

That will seriously enhanced the broadband penetration in this country. I don't even mind a cap ( a decent one, not like the current proposed cap) if the price is low enough. Throttling of speed upon exceed cap limit should be reduced to a minimum of 1Mbps or more....anything less is unacceptable.

Frankly, everyone should get at least 1Mbps as minimum for RM50. It is so pathethic they still dare to call to 384kbps line as 'broadband' in this age!!!!

to enhance broadband penetration, lower price of 512/1 MBps streamyx and not 4 MBps. People who are using 1515 (dial-up) wont be using 4 MBps anytime soon.

Only heavy downloaders are complaining about 4 MBps prices as far as I can see.

you dont really need youtube or movie downloads to increase the economy (even though for students there are videos which are beneficial)..

To some, it's paying an additional RM9.00 and you get 4.5Mbps extra of upload bandwidth.

to those who installed UNIFI already i have a question,

i'm going to install my UNIFI next week and the question is:

will the house get messy during the installation by the TM contractors?

i heard because the need to drill here and there, the house would be quite messy.

I've been reading this thread since it started. They are comparing services from SG and MY. Well im currently in NZ for another 3 years and I think UniFi is better than any service over here.(besides the cap) Internet over here is very fast but damn expensive. Im paying RM 250 for 10mbps with only a 30GB package. If I pass my 30gb I need to pay RM5 for every GB I pass. Sigh...
*
Seems our HSBB is much2 better (in terms of price and download quota) than NZ.

But to compare with other asian countries, like Korea/Japan, they're much cheaper.

Don't know should I be thankful or mad. tongue.gif

I called to check whether my area is covered by the service this morning.
It does and the lady accepts my register through phone.
They are arranging the contractor to come on 6th April.
But what worry me is the installation.
My house just newly renovated and my wife is pregnant.
Really don't like drilling here and there.

I love bluehyppo, I go there every day. In fact it is my homepage brows.gif

After applying for Unifi on Thursday, March 25, they've given me an installation appointment date of Friday, April 2.

So a little over 1 week.

Not too bad, considering how bad the streamyx roll out was.

Is TM actually improving in some capacities?

Don't be silly.
Send your wife to a spa for the day.

And do the cleaning up yourself instead of making her do it.
