11+ billion is from taxpayer money why are "they" wholesale it and not government?
*
You must have not done your homework. Go check how much of that money is from government and how much from TM. Even if you say its a GLC, go check how many % government have control over it.

I do not believe it is fair demanding TM to lower their prices saying that it is the right of the people (tax payer money blablabla). Since it is a business afterall, we should ask government to give subsidy based on the revenue they recieve no? Otherwise we are taking from the % which are not from tax payer money and demanding from ppl who actually give out capital n do the work.

You check the telephone tiang at the back or front of your house, whether there is a white box hanging there.
If there is one, then your area has HSBB.
If no, then not yet reach your area.
*
USJ area not covered. Q2.. if theres a box doesnt mean theres an OLT or MSAN connnected to those cables. rolleyes.gif

theres already a box in front of my house. still no unify wink.gif

actually it is not that expensive if you add up streamyx 1mbps package together with our phone bill. 88+40=128. With the price 149 you can get a 5mbps speed. The main problem is the fair usage policy and need to have a new phone number.

Streamyx 1mbps + fixed line is RM110/month. Combo package. No reason to pay more.

If I were to suscribe to Unifi and at present I already have a TM fixed line phone at home (which i pay rental for), will they replace my current phone with the cordless phone and will they still charge me rental? Anyone knows on this? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks
*
When you get Unifi, they will give you a new line with a new number. They will not automatically cancel your old line and number. So at that point you will have two lines, two numbers, two phones.

You can cancel the old one if you want to, and stop paying the bills. At the moment you cannot cancel the new one, and the rental for the new one is included in the Unifi subscription price.

It should be RM88 + RM26 = RM114. Anyway, making a comparison like this is only valid if you accept that a 1M package should cost RM88. If you think that we should have 1M package for RM40 (for example), then you may think differently. At the moment, a 4M package is RM140. So 5M is not expensive at all compared to that. In fact a 10M is also not too expensive compared to that. The point is, it is all relative to what you are comparing with.

This is probably one of the reasons why TM did not reduce Streamyx prices before Unifi was launched. Because then we would be comparing lower Streamyx prices with current Unifi prices and there may be a bigger difference.

I have a question regarding UniFi.

Can I use my own router instead of TM's own Residential Gateway (RG)? I love my WRT54G so much I can't bear to part with it.

the RG is a wireless N router. why would you rather have a G router than a N router?

Because I can use custom firmware on it. Plus, all the laptops in my home are still using Wireless G.

Edit: Just looked at the user manual and confirmed the RG is actually a D-Link DIR-615 router. It seems that some models can support DD-WRT.

Triple at? hmmmm
isn't streamyx have this concept already... Internet+Free Calls+Free phone/ wifi modem.

ya, I dun get a TV but so what if i can watch any show I like on my LCD TV?

hey... if 5mbps for RM 150 is expensive, why we all still pay so much for 1mbps?

will TM drop the price for 0.5mbps @RM90 and 1mbps @RM110?

Usually triple play refers to phone, internet and cable tv services, which is what starhub capable to do. But even then, singtel can do that as well ever since miotv came out.

Yes, they are not exactly the same, but they are sort of the same. Streamyx combo has Internet + Phone. So does Unifi but with added IPTV. If really not many users are interested in the IPTV, then they are sort of the same just with higher speeds.

If you think Unifi is very different then, Streamyx 4Mb at RM140 must be overpriced a lot since with extra RM9 you can get Unifi with IPTV. So it just depends on which way you look at it and compare them.

All in all I just hope they just make the IPTV thing optional. IPTV is capable of becoming something HUGE like THE premier service for HD entertainment but no, all you're getting are channels that you most probably would say "blah" to.

TM, listen up. All we need is the HSBB internet connection. Screw the VOIP and IPTV. Forcing people to pay more just because of the inclusion of a lousy TV service is just stupid.

RM140 for 4mbps.
RM159 for 5mbps and IPTV.
Basically it's free. Not sure why people are complaining over it.
