My 2 cents from my 50 V20K experience. I enjoy watching ASTRO now on my 50 V20K. Why ? Bigger screen and better picture quality. I have seen 42" TV but personally feel that it is small. 50 or bigger will give you a better viewing experience. Yes, more $ for the 50".
*
If movies is in letterbox, 42" panel TV's size is no bigger or may be even smaller than old 34" CRT. Therefore, IMO, there is no point getting a 42" and the minimum size to go for is 50".

thanks..

but it's almost a double of the price from 42" to 50" where only 8" diff.

really a big decision huh...

mostly will take 42" in 2 weeks time if the 50" price still high.

need to measure again the watching distance..
*
It looks like 42" is falling off the mainstream demand, hence more stock to get rid off at dirt cheap price.

50" is pretty much what everybody is looking for nowadays. If you're looking for a steep drop in price for the 50", I'd say that it's less likely due to high demand.

Like you said, measure the viewing distance and if it's < 8 feet, 42" is good enough due to the exceptionally low price now.

If the 50" price really drops, then get it as well. You can then use the 42" in your bedroom or even better, as your own personal PC/gaming monitor .... rclxms.gif

I remember buying my 24" DELL LCD monitor for more than RM2000 just two years ago.

Just came back from Best Denki KLCC, P42V20k going for RM3499......sigh....

QUOTE(CuteSniper22 @ Feb 25 2011, 05:42 PM)
Just bought p42v20k(RM2550). The price just dropped recently (1~2 weeks ago), should be in 2.6k~ 2.8k. Many shops still not update their price yet.. You should ask properly..

The research i done, the previous price should be from 4k++ > 3.5k > now is 2.6~2.8++.

Previously, i'm also wanna buy LCD/LED but after the promoter introduce me plasma,
LCD, I changed my mind. What i listened from promoter that when you look at LED TV,  there is sticker sticked with term "LED LCD TV" instead of showing "LED TV". This mean this is LCD-based with adding a LED light panel as an ADD-on. Like a hybrid version of LCD TV.  so I drop my mind on LED. I don't know much about LED TV..U may go and look for wikipedia (just a comment, correct me if i'm wrong)

As for LCD, u better try to press on the screen see whether a big water wave come out. If yes, the LCD used single layer for screen (unreliable if ur home kids keep pressing on the screen hardly). (Unsure!! told by promoter). I ask him why some LCD cost 999 only... so this is the reason...(of course included lack of HDMI & other features). Good luck...

It's the Ultrasharp variety with S-PVA panel. It's different from the TN panel that HP w2408h has. I actually used it for my downloaded HD movies since 32" TVs at that time cost more than RM3K-4K. biggrin.gif

Need to check with your experience and exposure with Plasma TV. In the midst of considering between this V20k and the LED 42 of Panasonic before purchasing it.
I know that Plasma has much better PQ than the LED.

Main concern is the Image Retention and Burn-in issue with Plasma. IR is more common from what I read here. Was thinking of using the TV also as a HTPC, does it pose problem for IR? Is LED more suitable for HTPC purpose?

Say occasionally one actually does dose off into deep sleep while the Plasma TV is still running, so IR occurred, can it be resolve?

Since normal DVD players is still used and because the movie will be showed in 16:9 which is clearer but contain two black bar (upper and bottom with subtitles), does it cause a concern of IR? Changing it to full screen with Zoom function does make the quality of the picture degrade somewhat.
This concern goes the same for certain Astro channel with some network logo, I presume.

Not sure whether this Plasma or LED is more suitable in choosing the right TV.

Thank you for your expert opinion in advance.

That's their normal price tag. I last quoted the 42" at RM3899 before the CNY in SenQ Sibu. I saw plumberly mention he got his 50V20K from SenQ Sibu for RM4999 but that's the price for Plus One member if I'm not mistaken. Be a Plus One member cost you RM12 only and you get 2+1 year warranty.

Thanks to willkso for doing the survey and informing me on SenQ's special offer for 50 V20K ! TV manufactured in Nov 2010 ! Happy with SenQ service and the TV itself. 9 out of 10 so far.

P/S Programmed my ASTRO remote for switching the TV on and off. Problem is when I switch it on using ASTRO remote, it goes to TV mode. How can I set it up such that it will go to HDMI 1 as default ? When I use Pana remote to switch it on, it will go to HDMI1 as default. Thanks.

Regarding Best not updating their price.....not that they don't want to update their pricing for V20k. they mentioned they can't show pricing lower than that coz Pana doesn't allow them to. Price control.....

I can get RM4999 from Best too last month, but didn't buy from them coz no stock. TBM OTH got stock and needless to say I bought from them coz I don't want to wait (no TV at home then).

Since this is already in the back of ur mind, my suggestion would be to go for a LED backlit LCD.

IR is normal for plasmas its how the technology works. Its the same for CRT monitors.

The newer range of Pannys have higher IR most likely due to lower blacks.
