Compared the U20 and V20 specs on Pansonic web. Noted the differences in the list but don't understand or can visualise the differences. Can someone who has seen both give feedback on the differences in layman terms ? Thanks !

In simple terms, more pop in the V series and better accuracy (more so after calibration) |

QUOTE(echoesian @ Aug 13 2010, 05:32 PM) Unfortunately not. You might be on the same ship as me, looking for black bezel. You can either opt for the higher end VT series with dark bronze color (almost black) or wait for next year V series with the hope that black would be available. Silver just don't cut it for me ... |

Reason for asking is, I am getting tired of waiting to get my V20 in Sarawak. Latest promototion is U20 plus BD45 at only RM 5499. Thus the question on U20. Was thinking of getting G10 last year but they don't come in 50" size. Is U20 equal or better than G10 ? Many thanks. |

availability of the V20 in sarawak should be just around the corner . my advise is to wait for the V . heck a lot of difference as AD mentioned as color accuracy and reproduction of the V is simply amazing . the glare and reflection issues have improved a lot over last year V as well for its price , nothing beat the V i already look forward to next year V , hopefully panny M will bring in the Infinite.Black Pro panel version , sadly the IB.Pro panel is the only feature missing from this year V This post has been edited by sunnyK: Aug 14 2010, 10:31 AM |

Can someone who has seen both give feedback on the differences in layman terms ? Thanks ! RM5499 is a bit expensive but try negotiate RM300 down or 5 years warranty. I am using 50U20 now and frankly speaking if u do not have the luxury to compare another TV next to it at home, your eyes will attune to your beloved set that you watch everyday. If you play full HD movies with PMP / Bray Player BD45, picture quality of U20 is as good. BD45 is a damn perfect entry level Bluray player and it plays any damn VCD / DVD (some cannot even run on my previous Pioneer DVD player) / BD that i bought. Comments on Black level are rubbish if you do not watch your movies / astro in a dark room and you are not willing to to pay more or you cannot find such set at your location. Also, I hate to say this, do not try to be sifu and listen to forrumers (who may not be qualified to perform calibration) and screwed up your set default calibration unless it is perform by Panasonic. Panasonic strongly advise against it and it may void your warranty. If you talk about picture quality and connectivity, V20 and Samsung FHD are definately better; however, your requirements are availability and price?? Same question, Pioneer Kuro also have better Black level but can you get it at your location or are you willing to fork out such price?. U20 is a bit reflective I admit but I adjusted my room lighting and my eyes got use to it now. |

Thanks to all for your advice.
As my plan is to get a good plasma TV which I intend to stay put for the next 5-10 years, think now I will go for V20. Wish that Panasonic is more considerate on their market coverage in Sarawak and sabah. |

QUOTE(vincentboleh @ Aug 14 2010, 11:59 AM) RM5499 is a bit expensive but try negotiate RM300 down or 5 years warranty. Does Panasonic carry out calibration? Did they tell you this? Curious, coz as far as I know, Panasonic Malaysia is not listed as ISF certified as well. I hv had discussions with personnel from Panasonic in the past, and they were clear that they do not have certified personnel in Malaysia.I am using 50U20 now and frankly speaking if u do not have the luxury to compare another TV next to it at home, your eyes will attune to your beloved set that you watch everyday. Same question, Pioneer Kuro also have better Black level but can you get it at your location or are you willing to fork out such price?. U20 is a bit reflective I admit but I adjusted my room lighting and my eyes got use to it now. While I agree with most of what you hv said about why the U20 is good, budgetary constraints and location constraints but the paragraph about black levels being rubbish is not correct. The U20 does not have a ARC, plasma sets being reflective, the black levels will wash out even more when in a bright room compared to a non reflective panel. In a dark room, as your iris will open up more, the black areas will look dark grey. These are facts. To reduce the effect in a dimly lit room, I hv suggested using a bias lighting behind the panel. It is a good set and on its own if it is good enuf for for then no problems. The OP asked when compared to V20 how the U20 was, so in that sense, the black levels are important to consider. Colour performance as well. The U20 does not track HD709 as well as the V20. Will u realize it, probably, if u care abt it. The U20 does not have a control for gamma, they gamma tracks closer to 1.8 than the ideal 2.2. Gamma of 1.8 would be ok for a bright room and will show too much shadow detail, more than supposed to. The V20 has a gamma control. So all in all, arm yourself with the knowledge of the pros and cons of each set, and buy one within ur budget and live with the shortcomings. There is no perfect display, however, it is ur money and it really is up to u as the other constraints might be more important to u. |
