If not mistaken, I saw Cycom pricelist which is $498, didn't see the word 'mini' so assume it is the normal one.

Be careful because ACRyan Asia Pacific stop supply POHD to this distributor, who supply to this shop. In case of warranty issue, customers will face a bit troublesome.

He did pass me the receipt but I have somehow misplaced it. And currently, my friend is at overseas. No worry. I'm pretty sure it is an original unit.

BoxBuilder, i bought mine from C-Zone Lowyat. The unit can't switch on even using another power adapter. Send in for warranty claim on 12 March 2010. From the RMA department, the lady told me 3 to 4 weeks.....

Hi Idragon, We have checked with C-Zone RMA dept, but they said no POHD mini sent in. Can you double confirm for this issue?
Thanks.

Some of the files use AAC+ audio format which is not supported by POHD and it will show unknown audio format.

i need some advice .. before i jump into decision of getting a unit of A.C.Ryan PlayON

does the PlayOn runs hot with the internal hdd ?
does it makes any difference in performance 5400 / 7200 rpm sata hdd ? faster loading time ?

if i choice for PlayOn! Mini using external 3.5" drives, will it lag playing a 1080p mkv file ?

Any device that has a internal HDD in it is bound to run hotter, unless you have real proper monitoring and ventilation system like a customized PC.

5400/7200 rpm makes no difference at all in playing 1080p stuff..infact 7200 rpm tends to run hotter.
The best HDD for the ACRyan is WD Green and Samsung 1.5Tb (aka F2 series-Eco version).
No point using very fast HDD like WD Black or Samsung F3.

If you experiment with HDD in a docker....the best ones are Laptop versions....although low rpm, they are very much faster in loading than desktop versions and less heat generated, but cost double.

I doubt playing through external drives it will lag..unless your USB cable is pretty long or something wrong with your file.
Can tell that company to close down if such nonsense occur.
But playing 1080p using wireless is a different story.

Take note especially with a ACRyan, once you start upgrading Firmware and stuff, be careful not to format the HDD or else all your movies gone.

When comparing playing movie via USB and 100Mbps LAN, can I say it is very similar in terms of smooth play ?

Any 3.5" 5400rpm drive will do. It is completely adequate for the task. Performance is not affected even if connected through USB external dock. Everything is smooth.

I recommend the Samsung HD154UI 5400 rpm 1.5TB. It costs only around RM330/-. I am using two of these, one internal SATA and one external connected through USB.

The POHD runs very cool. Even with the internal drive attached, it is just slightly warm only after playing for few hours. This is because of the built-in fan.

Don't know about the POHD mini though. It doesn't have internal HD storage but it's size is much smaller and also I don't think it's got a fan.
