QUOTE(ffrulz @ May 23 2010, 05:10 PM) 1. Woofers cannot corrupt lenses. They can mess the lens by introducing vibrations which will wear out the moving parts in the lens itself. 2. It's safer to place the woofer away from the console, as the vibration caused, depending on your level of volume will be a bad factor for your Hard Disk rather than the lens. 3. And also, the magnetic field generated by the woofer is greater than the speakers, and it's general knowledge that magnets and Hard Drives do not go together pretty well even though there's a very strong magnet in the Hard Drive assembly itself. But in modern speakers generally available today, they are all mostly shielded, I can say this for PC speakers but as for woofers I'm not entirely sure. The most important factor would be the vibration generated from the woofer rather than the magnetic field, which is why its best to keep the woofer away from the console but it's alright to place the console near the speakers unless you tend to blast your volume until your table rocks and stuff. But seriously.... do you really think ps3 are made to be weak against this stuff? The only explanation with faulty ps3 that came up to my mind are heat. But yeah.... it's always better to prevent than to cure.... I'm just worried with my ps3 to be placed in between a speaker or woofer (IDK). Wait. What is the difference between speaker and woofer? But yeah.... it's always better to prevent than to cure.... I'm just worried with my ps3 to be placed in between a speaker or woofer (IDK). Like I said, the worrying factor would be Vibrations rather than Magnetic Fields unless you're using Home Theatre speakers since those are usually not shielded. So it's better to be safe than sorry. Chances are, your Hard Drive will go out first before your lens. But when it comes to electronics, you cannot say for sure when will that component die. So if you have a console that has a faulty lens, it could just be it's time for death and not any other external factors causing the failure.

QUOTE(poyohebat @ May 23 2010, 07:13 PM) How do I know my speaker/woofers are shielded? Either open it up or test it with a CRT. But for speakers to be strong enough to kill hard drives, just place a few paper clips near the speakers. Or directly against the back portion of the speaker, if it doesn't stick then you should have nothing to worry about.

Check if your speaker box/manual has Magnetically Shielded as one of its features. Thats the best. This post has been edited by Satanist: May 23 2010, 09:53 PM

If your woofer is from the 90's where there are no magnetic shielding, it'll lead your PS3 to magnetic corruption. Otherwise... lol, it doesn't matter. How big are your woofers anyway in the first place?

Hey guys so I'm in the states now and I decided to buy an 80gb model ps3 slim. I was pretty sure that a ps3 bought here would work back home in msia, but just to be safe, I sent a message to Sony. I was surprised to hear their reply that not only does ps3 not accept a universal power supply, but they said it also does not play non region one games. Is this all true? Or BS?
Subject Hi, I own a North American PS3 Slim and I wish to know whether I need an adapter Discussion Thread Response (Jamal W.) 05/23/2010 09:33 AM Hello Warren,
You will only be able to play DVD's coded "region 1" or "region ALL" coded in the NTSC format on the North American PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. Blu-ray Discs (BD) that are marked with the "region A" will be supported.
*When playing PLAYSTATION®3 format software, a display/monitor that supports video playback at 60Hz is required. (Please contact the manufacturer of your display for video playback support.)
In addition, the North American PLAYSTATION 3 system only supports a power supply of 120V AC, 60 Hz.
Lastly, due to different television and voltage standards, and a variety of licensing issues, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) has implemented a territorial-based distribution system for its hardware, peripherals, and software. This limits the use of any particular software to play on the console designated for that distribution territory (e.g. North American games will not play in the systems designed for other regions, such as, Japan, Europe, etc.). You may also experience problems if you attempt to use memory sticks, controllers, etc. from a different region (outside of North America) on your North American console.
In addition, we would not recommend traveling with your North American PLAYSTATION 3 system outside of North America. Due to a difference in international television and voltage standards, North American PLAYSTATION 3 systems may not be compatible for use outside of North America.
We do not have any information on adapters or converters made to override territorial restrictions. The various PlayStation® consoles and format software titles are only designed to run in their respective regions and countries. We apologize for any inconvenience.

They're all true.
However, none of them applies (except for the DVD and Blu-Ray region issue). So don't worry. And just buy the PS3 if you want to.

Since it's a PS3 Slim, the only time the issue of regions will come up is when you want to playback a DVD. Blu-rays, games or otherwise are not region locked.
