Strictly speaking, that's not an oxymoron since you can register a product without getting any warranty benefits, which seems to be the case here.
----

Anyway, my own question:

I've noticed that my Blu-ray movies have very low volume, especially when compared to the volume levels I get from games. Is there a way to fix this?
*
Never tried blue ray movies but my games volume is sure lot lower compared to avi video I put on my PS3. Is it a PS3 prob?

Its been awhile since I use my Ps3. Mine still 3.15 and want to upgrade it but I already install linux in it. So should i just upgrade it and will it automatically convert the free space from the linux to ps3 os or I need to reformat the hdd to regain the lost space in hdd when installing linux?   icon_question.gif
*
If you update the firmware, you'll lose your linux capability

Hi guys, getting a PS3 this weekend. Getting a singapore set, got any tips on checking the product before getting it?
*
Mine is also singapore set. Bought it last April. just check all the accessories, manual etc. Normally if you get it from whole seller, it won't be sealed or anything. But it's quite fine. Just make the online registration right after purchase under singapore region hence the product is from singapore. And make sure the serial number is there on the box.

is there a reason you want a singaporean set and not a malaysian set?
you will have to format/delete that partition manually or else the space will be lost when you update.

no real idea on the proper procedure, but dont simply update-cos it's been said that you will lose the allotted space
@bolded:yeah.
there's no way to convert your ID into that of a different region, unfortunately
*
Really? I didn't know that. During my update, no space in the hd been lost.

Volume output of video files are not PS3 related. These volume outputs are all encoding related. To solve the problem you need to 'normalise' the volume of the videos which I am not sure if the PS3 has this feature. But in Media Player Classic on Windows they have the normallise feature which eliminates the volume differences between different video files.

Hi all. Need some suggestions here.

My PS3 phat 40GB Singapore set had just YLOD, it's currently using a 500GB HDD i've installed, but i hear that it's best to change the HDD back to the stock 40GB before sending it for repairs, is that right? How do I get that game disc inside the BR drive back out?

Warranty is out, so what are the recommendation to get it fix? Send it to Sony Style? Local gameshops? Singapore set must send to Singapore to fix, or Sony Style Msia also can? How much does repair cost?

Lastly, would all the stuffs in my PS3 get erased after repair (esp from Sony)? DLCs, locked saves, etc. Can't backup anything now, lol.

Thanks.

- Try not to place your PS3 on the same level that you place your front speakers. The sounds generated from the speakers regardless low or high volume will cause some low or high vibration across the AV cabinet or table panel and this might have a negative damage impact on the BD mechanism lens and it parts (especially when the lens is in reading mode, the sensitivity is much greater to any shock or vibration)

Does that mean i cant put ps3 infront of my television? This is the picture I draw the placement of ps3 and television

sony style / sony malaysia wont accept your console since its singapore set , there is 2 method :

1. send to sony singapore
2. send to the local gameshop that offer repair & service

but i would suggest you to send to local gameshop cause they can repair it less then 7 days... icon_rolleyes.gif

So the best course of action for me is repair PS3 locally(heard that it won't last long), then save up and get a slim > Data Transfer?

Regarding the subwoofer and ps3? Do anyone of you guys have a genuine and proof stating that the subwoofer can corrupt the bd lens and the ps3 itself? Theoretically yes..... But do someone really got those problem from closing up their ps3 with a subwoofer? I saw some of my friends putting their ps3 on a subwoofer for such a long time and nothing seems to happened. My PC was sit right next to a subwoofer too and nothing happened as well. Idk what will happen 4 to 5 years from now though.

Trying to put a ps3 in front of a subwoofer or a speaker is a suicide mission I guess.

1. Woofers cannot corrupt lenses. They can mess the lens by introducing vibrations which will wear out the moving parts in the lens itself.
2. It's safer to place the woofer away from the console, as the vibration caused, depending on your level of volume will be a bad factor for your Hard Disk rather than the lens.
3. And also, the magnetic field generated by the woofer is greater than the speakers, and it's general knowledge that magnets and Hard Drives do not go together pretty well even though there's a very strong magnet in the Hard Drive assembly itself.

But in modern speakers generally available today, they are all mostly shielded, I can say this for PC speakers but as for woofers I'm not entirely sure. The most important factor would be the vibration generated from the woofer rather than the magnetic field, which is why its best to keep the woofer away from the console but it's alright to place the console near the speakers unless you tend to blast your volume until your table rocks and stuff.

agreed with u. anyway, poyohebat, it's hard to get prove for it since when their ps3 is broken..they will say another source of problem that cause it.they will not remember anything bout the magnetic field arounds them because they didnt know that thing also contributing to the cause of the problem. laugh.gif
try put those small magnets ppl put on the refrigerator on ur pc cpu.. laugh.gif ermm..anyway speakers, they do have magnetic shield arounds them. dont u remember, old speakers when u put near tv, ur tv will change it's color... it's instantaneous when u put in front of the glass.but it do took a long time before ur tv broken if u put nearby. but now modern speakers... ur tv is still ok even u put a speaker in fron of the glass. might not be related to ps3.. but just a picture how does it affecting ur console.
