Get any cheap HDMI cable you can come across. Just remember to check the build quality first. Don't get sucked into the marketing gimmick regarding Monster Cables and their overpriced products.

All of the cables come from the same country anyway - China. Gold Plated connectors won't do a jack when it comes to Digital cables like HDMI/DVI.

Unless you're paying a premium to get the latest cables (HDMI 1.4a) or you're planning to drag the cable over 30 meters or more, it's not a good idea to spend few hundred on the cable.

Hello everyone,

I know this is not the right place, but I seriously need advises.

Playing PS3 on LCD monitor, say 21.5 inch FULL HD LCD, without HDMI but with DVI (HDCP), use HDMI to DVI converter, will the image quality be degraded?

Thanks!!
*
No, HDMI is essentially DVI-D with Audio passthrough. Both of them are digital connections so there will be no image degrading of any kind.

If you're willing to shell out for HDFury then I suggest you just get a new monitor. The cost is around the same for a 24inch monitor that is HDCP compliant and probably come with a HDMI port anyway.

Wrong. A monitor which has DVI can be used as well. Provided that it comes with HDCP not HDMI.

Hmm I don't think the alphabets are the revisions. If it's a new revision (changes to the hardware internally) I would think they'll relabel it as CECH 21 and onwards.

does anyone got controller sync problem?
I cant start ps3 from my controller and when I push the ps button, it takes quite a time to be activated.
*
It's normal when it takes a couple of seconds to sync via Bluetooth. However it syncs almost instantly via USB.

Does the green light indicator (wireless) next to the orange light lid as well?
*
Green indicator light will not light up when you're syncing the controller to the console.

bro. i have a question. i am owner of a ps3 slim. currently playing GoW3.

whenever i am about 1 hour into the game, my ps3 fan will turn rapidly resulting quite loud noise from the ps3. is this normal ? cos its like a man who is breathing shallowly. lol. its making me worried.

when i touch the back of the ps3, the air coming out from the ventilation is warm. not hot. so meaning its okay la? but why the fan blow loudly?? is this normal?

is there anyway to install a game into a ps3 to reduce the load and loudness of the fan? i don't see any options for it.
*
Game Installs are game dependent. Some games have mandatory install, some have optional install and some have no installs at all.

Try on a DVD player. Chances are, those are not BR discs but rather DVD9 discs.

I have a SG set. But I live in JB so there's no worries about warranty problems since SG is just over a bridge lol.

GOW3 better than ff13?
u must be kidding me

Nope, he ain't kidding, GoW 3's GFX are definitely better than FFXIII's, aside from the CGI scenes.

I would say the in-game graphics are based on the developers skill instead. If they can optimise it properly for the hardware itself, it will run good.

In any case, GoW 3 is developed by Sony's own studio and FFXIII is developed by SE, who is a third party dev. So there might be some differences in developer coding skills there. Also, the Crystal Tools engine isn't a PS3 platform engine only, therefore there might be some optimisation problems due to it being a multi-platform engine.

Bear in mind the game itself is only around 8GB (FFXIII), so it's not a problem with the DVD count, they could even spare another DVD to make it 4 DVDs if they could optimise the graphics for in-game further if they wanted. But I suppose time wasn't a there for them to do it. Since the X360 version lacks some self shadows on the characters compared to the PS3 version.

Go into Display Settings and uncheck 720P and 1080i. Let's see whether your display manages to get 1080P or not but still it'll still be upscaled from the PS3.

Hmm for some info i saw on web, in fact those game dev not fully utilise the PS3 GPU yet hmm.gif
PS3 have 2 GPU but now all the games only running on one. So tis make the another GPU like useless.
*
The PS3 has only one GPU, which is the RSX made by nVidia. Originally the RSX isn't suppose to exist either. Sony wanted the CELL to be the GPU but some problems happened and Sony went to nVidia to have a GPU tailored for the PS3.

The correct statement would be that, developers have not mastered how to code for the CELL yet. The 6 SPUs available will be very powerful for the ones who can utilise it properly.

Wouldn't advise doing so.
Alot of games are 720p locked.

Unticking 720p will simply run the game at 480/576p.
Which make matters worse. And also, the PS3 don't upscale games... your TV does, don't get it the wrong way.
*
Had no idea PS3 does not upscale games. I know for a fact that the display does upscale though.

If GoW3 ran at 1080p, the visuals won't be as good.

Actually, the only thing I see improving by increasing the disc count would be the cutscenes.

Most of the compression is on cutscenes, and as such, they are pretty terribad on the 360.

Add to that the skill of SSM people...  tongue.gif
*
Yeah I saw the comparisons, the CGI scenes are well... urgh lol.

wah then why don't make it 1080p to make the money we spend on the lcd tv fullHD worth it. Sigh then what is the use of 1080p besides errmm.. Anything you all can think of? there's no applications at this moment running 1080p wor
sad world

Yeap, BD Movies are 1080P. There are games that are in native 1080P but not many, the only one I know of is GT5. But it's not fully 1920x1080 either.

QUOTE
Gran Turismo 5: Prologue = 1080p mode is 1280x1080 (2xAA) in-game while the garage/pit/showrooms are 1920x1080 with no AA. 720p mode is 1280x720 (4xAA)

From B3D Forums.

It's not easy to have a game running @ 1080P without performance issues.

I think the main reason why a dev won't bother with 1080p usually is that while the resolution boost is there, they have to sacrifice eye candy to free up the Cell to draw nearly double the number of pixels.

Add to that how most people say they can't see the difference  sad.gif

I don't think a dev would like it if they spent months optimizing a game to run in 1080p only to have people whining about 1080p being 'useless' and how they could've swapped the pixels for eye candy icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Yeap, one of the reasons is this. Why 1080P when you can have better performance + graphics @ 720P? But sadly this isn't the case for games in the current generation. We still have a lot of games that struggle running @ 1280x720 and are forced to be displayed below 720P.

Frankly, I feel that sub-720p is just the easy way out for most devs.

Games like UC2 can run at native 720p with 2xAA while a game like MW2 runs at 600p and only 2xAA.

I could rant more about 600p, but I'd have to enter 360 territory tongue.gif
*
Yeah, 720P for games should be attainable. It's the coding that's the problem. Looking at SO4 I want to cry seriously lol. They could have ported the game in a better way. It's either down to coders or the company's board itself. Profit = priority and the like.

From my experience so far, I think SE really optimize the game code for FF13. Try pressing the PS logo while playing that game and you'll still see a smooth XMB navigation.
*
Uh, that's not what I see as optimising. That's because when you hit the PS button the whole game is paused/stopped and then resumed when you hit it again.

Most games have the game running in the background while you navigate the XMB.

yea I know. Normally it took couple of seconds and I can on the PS3 with my controller. But now took more than 5 minutes? Just see it keep blinking then have to retry. Only can manage to sync.

Same when hook with usb cable
*
I see, what's the FW on your PS3 at the moment? Might be a controller or console issue. Have you tried with other controllers? (if you have spares of course).

Hi guys. Am new to using PS3 here so hopefully can get an answer.

When I'm downloading in the background (around 1 GB) can I still play games like Heavy Rain or others? Will it affect my download?
*
It depends on what kind of content you are downloading. If it's a Game Update, then no you cannot do Background Downloading. However if it's anything from PSN, Game Demos or something then yes you can download in the background. It's very noticeable which ones you can background download and which ones you can't.

However, bear in mind that the PS3 has a system implemented where you play online games, for example Fat Princess or WKC, your downloads in the background will be automatically set into Pending and will only resume when you're not in Online mode in the game.
