ESPN HD:

Astro have said before this ESPN HD will be available in January 2010
We thoughit would be 1st January 2010. We were wrong..
Now the general belief is that the launch date would be the end of January 2010..30 or 31st
Now I dont know if this has anything to do with the launch but

ARSENAL Vs MANCHESTER UNITED
31st January 2010

This is on SkySports HD in the UK and on normal ESPN here
So maybe Astro want to make big impact for the ESPN HD launch

Does anybody know when ESPNEWS ASIA will launch on Astro?

all have been stated rm20 and start from june if not mistaken...y this rm30 issue occured?
*
The RM30 issue started when one guy mistakenly said it was RM30
The correct price is RM20 is added onto ur current monthly bill starting APRIL 2010..

About the RM10 stamp duty issue, if Im not mistaken it only applies to new Astro subscribers.
For instance, a person has never had Astro before then want to install, then they will be charged extra RM10 for stamp duty
If the person wants to upgrade to Byond then RM10+RM20 for the April bill only..
May bill will only add RM20 only
So maybe, the person who mistakenly said RM30 is a new Astro customer

I am not charged the extra RM10 for Byond installation
But at the same time I have also ordered 2nd normal Astro decoder..so still I had to pay the RM10 for the new 2nd decoder

Hope I helped out n not make things more complicated icon_rolleyes.gif

I think for me not worth it to get B.Yond, I have 32" Toshiba HD Ready (1080p compatible), no DVR or whatever theater system, and byond got many prob such as SD channel PQ low quality. remote not syncing.. bla bla bla. Later the launch more HD Channel then ill consider to subscribe

we do the football in 720p

720p is a sharper image then 1080i and is more suited to fast moving images.

Really? The following paragraph is taken from the Astro website on FAQ for B.yond:

High-Definition TV programmes are currently being produced in 720p and 1080i, depending on which one the programmes producers decide is best for their show. We will be broadcasting Astro B.yond High-Definition channels in 1080i, which is in line with international industry standards.

What I understand from this is, even though some programs (eg, sports) may be produced in 720p, Astro would still broadcast its HD channels in 1080i.
So if you think you are getting better quality by setting your decoder to output in 720p for sports program, you may be mistaken. The sports channel broadcast is upscaled by Astro from 720p to 1080i, then downscaled by your decoder to 720p, then scaled again by your HDTV to 768 or 1080, depending on your HDTV.
What I prefer is to set the decoder at 1080i (same as Astro HD broadcast), then just let my HDTV do the scaling for me.

Just some thoughts on what I understand: correct me if I am wrong.

I am getting DD5.1 through HDMI in Neo HD & History HD, Astro Super Sports HD mostly DD 2.0, why he say that??

I was referring to this post. Check the link on the post and the quote below was from the blog.

NB: if you are not using Digital Audio Coax you must set this to “Stereo” or you will hear no audio on HD channels. Also note that you will not get Dolby 5.1 unless you use the Digital Audio coax. We do not send Dolby 5.1 over the HDMI cable.

Here's the insist:
QUOTE(TallJustin @ Jan 22 2010, 11:44 AM)
You have not set your amp up properly and are using a simulated surround sound effect from the amp which fakes surround sound even on a normal TV broadcast.
You are mistaking this sound effect for 5.1. We don't send 5.1 over the HDMI.

I was under the impression that if the game was 720p we would send it out as that, I'll confirm this next week at work. To be honest I hate football so I've not watched it enough

i can confirm that ASTRO B.YOND is much better than normal ASTRO on my 39" CRT TV. i am now resorting to watching SD channel on CRT and HD channel on LCD. Awkywardness to explain the situation to guest aside, i think thats the best win win situation for now.
(untill there are significant number of HD Channels)

Human face looks like a corpes on LCD compare to more more natural refined look on my RM700 CRT.

Yes, because LCD TV have higher resolution that any SD channel resolution eg. SD Channel: 576i LCD TV: 720p or 1080p.. The picture is just upscaled by the tv/or decoder

Why you mentioned it twice? We can't post anymore for now till v3?

Anyways, I was too sad about the absent of Optical In on my HT. So when I got back home n glued to the screen for hours (my 1st time watch b.yond), I realised the sound wasn't up to par with all the breaking egg, bouncing balls, flying water n 'You are watching (____) in HD". So I got up n take a good look again at my HT. I realised I'm a dumbass. There's Digital In. After some adjustments, I got Boom Boom Pow-ed. So again, glued to the screen.. n sound. N gosh, I need to sleep. Haven't taken my bath even. laugh.gif

What cable to use for digital-in?

Is the Digital-in cable different from the normal audio cable (white & red) ?
