i'm really considering subscribing to B.yond. I have some issues though.. hmm.gif

1. Is it worth changing my comfortable viewing of SD programmes right now now to HD? I know it's 5 HD channels of which I can get 4 of them except HBO. I heard there are problems with the sound between SD and HD. Is this a big problem? And is SD channels on B.Yond better or worse compared to the old decoder?

2. Is it very complicated to watch HD? Im just a normal guy who just wants to watch his ASTRO without too many things to set up. If I do get B.Yond, is there any urgent and necessary things I have to set up on my own after the installer do the necessary stuff? If so, anyone care to tell me, what I should do to get the best possible viewing of HD?

3. Anyone knows how long it takes to get B.Yond installed in JB?

Thanks. By the way. If you EPL fans out there remember, ASTRO announced back in October that they have secured the rights to all 380 matches of EPL starting next season. I wrote to one of the newspapers suggesting Astro to show simultaneous matches via the Red button on the remote instead of setting up specific channels for clubs like Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool,o etc.

Do you think Astro now has the capabilities to show all 380 matches LIVE with B.Yond? Imagine 380 EPL matches in HD!!! drool.gif

4 issues i want to know before getting B.Yond: hmm.gif

1. Is SD PQ on B.Yond better or worse compared with the old Astro decoder?

2. In V1.0 a lot of people complained about the volume difference between SD and HD channels. Is the problem still there or has it been fixed or do we need to fix it ourselves?

3. What should I set up once I get the B.Yond box? After the installer leaves, what should I do to get the best PQ and sound quality? I'm using SAMSUNG SERIES 4 Plasma TV PS42B430.

4. Can use old cable from dish to decoder or does the installer replace the old cable with a new one?

Please guys. Help me. Thank you icon_rolleyes.gif

BREAKING NEWS: CARLING CUP SEMI FINALS 1st LEG POSTPONED shakehead.gif

BLACKBURN ROVERS VS ASTON VILLA 3:55 am Tuesday
MANCHESTER CITY VS MANCHESTER UNITED 3:45 Wednesday

For football fans out there who were looking forward to the games above on SUPERSPORT HD, sorry but you will have to wait.

I'm not sure if these matches were going to be available in HD or not but now there won't be any matches due to the weather conditions in England right now.
Man City Vs Man Utd now rearranged for 19 January.
Shame not able to see Man U get their a$$ kicked by Tevez though! doh.gif

WE MUST HOPE ASTRO HAS MORE HD CHANNELS QUICKLY!!! notworthy.gif

anyone can help me out? icon_question.gif

i just called Astro CS to apply for Byond
I also said that i wish to add 2nd decoder..
But the guy at CS say they will not give me a Byond dish with 2 entry points from the dish to two decoders.
He say they give will me a Byond dish with one entry point..
Only when i get my 2nd decoder activated they will come to change my dish with two entry points..

Is this true? I thought a Byond dish will come with several entry points? If what the CS guy told me is true, then i might have to get the 2nd decoder activated 1st before the Byond installer comes..if not then my house will have two freakin dish!!! shocking.gif

my problem is my mother wants to add 2nd decoder 4 her room..
Astro will only give me Byond LNB with only 1 output jack
Astro won't give me LNB with 2 output jacks even though i already said i wanted to order 2nd decoder..they say only when 2nd decoder activated only then they provide 2 jacks..if not, i use 2 dish first then order new Byond dish later..

okey..so SAD..why astro xshow africa nations cup in hd.. sad.gif
many good matches..only on 816..at the same time, ASSP HD got nothing on..i think Astro should try with africa nations cup before world cup to prevent problems during world cup..hope no problems will occur during world cup broadcast..

BTW, I think ESPN get HD feed from SkySports HD so if Sky has the match in HD we will get on the match on ESPN HD..

Usually SkySports has 1 match (845pm Malaysia) and ESPN UK 1 match on Saturday (130am). Sky has 2 matches on Sunday (930pm & 1200am). If got matches on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, all got 1 match..So minimum we get 4matches per week and maximum 7 matches a week. Just my understanding..please inform if i am wrong..

CARLING CUP SEMI FINALS-Man City vs Man Utd 20 January is Live on ASSP 811..Hope get in HD also la.. rolleyes.gif

12/01 - Call astro apply 2nd decoder
13/01 - Install 2nd decoder

price rm 80 for installation- 2 year contract
i take basic package RM 37.95

*The RM 30 installation does exist but you have to take the News, Fun (Cartoon), and Variety (MTV, Channel V) package.
*That means RM30 for installation + monthly RM 54.95. If I am not mistaken 2 year contract

*2nd decoder also can get 1 year contract but price is RM199
*Not sure if that applies to new Astro subscriber as i asked because i wanted 2nd decoder

13/01 - Call Astro for Byond
14/01 - T&C call

hope installation by the weekend lah..plz!!! notworthy.gif

Hi all..
I just want some help and a few tips..
I am expecting my Byond installer tomorrow..
I am not an expert in fixing these hi-tech stuff so really need ur help..

1. What should I do once the installer leaves? Should I update the firmware 1st? How do I do this?

2. How do I change the satellite #? People say #18 better than #1..
Can anyone tell me the steps?

3. How do I fix the SD and HD volume problem if it occurs? The steps if anyone can help out?

This 3 things are the most important things I would like to know..
I see a lot of people here who are helpful..
Hope you guys can help teach me..
Thank you cheers.gif

1) The SD ch PQ will be much more better with a decent component cable.

2) The astro remote volume control is only meant for analog audio out. Digital coax is for amplifier which has its own volume control.

3) you can use coax to your av amp or use HDMI to your av amp (that support such function) first and connect from av amp to the TV.

4) this is the problem with astro and hope that they will equalize the level before broadcast. Nothing we can do.

5) It is just a transponder setting. You are not changing satellite. The gain from the transponder varies. Different channel uses different transponder.

Hope that help.

My Byond installer coming tomorrow..

The old decoder video is analog signal (s-video or composite) and your HD TV will perform the upscaling to fill the HD screen. The byond decoder via the HDMI is a digital signal already scaled to fit HD screen so the TV will not use its scaler. Usually the TV scaler processor is much more powerful than that of the decoder and yield better quality picture. Therefore, the byond decoder viewing SD via HDMI will look worst because the scaling create lots of artifacts. To me it is not quite acceptable.

Using analog signal (component) from Byond is another story. Now the TV will use its scaler to fit the HD screen and the picture will be better. Given that the component signal is better than s-video, the results will be much better than the old decoder.

So, the question of whether Byond decoder SD is bad or good depends on the connections you use.

Most TV has both component and HDMI inputs. You can connect both of them and watch SD and HD with component and HDMI respectively.

Component cable is with 3 RCA jack, Red, Blue and Green. Buy a reasonable quality one, usually cost less than RM100.

Hye..
It's me again
The colours of the cable id Red, Green and Blue?
So the Yellow, Red and White is not needed?
Im afraid to go to the shop and maybe be con
Less than RM100? How much is the range?
So is there any brand I should go for?
So the cable is called component cable right?
