hi guys,

I got my Byond installed nearly two weeks ago. New grey dish, decoder, card, hdmi cable. Subscribed to Sports initially, but later added Learning. The problem i facing is that the decoder freezes/hangs randomly while watching astro. Happens in variety of channels. First I thought may be its the heat, but still same if using air-cond and leaving the TV cabinet cover wide open. The freeze happens at random times as well, some times within 10 mins of starting Astro, sometimes after 1 hours. The LED on the decoder will also freeze, for example "C831" will be come "C" or "1" or "3". At times when I off and on the Astro decoder, it even hangs when booting, so the decoder will show "b" or "t", for example. The installer came and did update, and he stayed for 15 mins - no problem. But the problem recur again about 1 hour after he left. And still recurring daily, few times a day. I usually wait 5 or 10 mins before switching on the decoder again and the problem sometimes recurs.

TV is LCD 42" LGLF20.

Decoder to TV: HDMI
Decoder to Amp: Red/White cable and Coaxial(used during HD channels). Problem occurs even if use the red/white audio cable only (coax unplugged).
Software date 23 Dec 2009.

Anyone else having same problem?

My Review about Astro B.yond (UPDATE)

1. I used Panasonic SDTV.
2. The TV can be programmed to the remote using option 2 (refer to installation manual).
3. Smart Card from other decoder can be inserted into the B.yond decoder (no HD channels).
4. Component cable works perfectly on SD channels and gives maximum picture quality that my TV can display (HD settings: 576p).
5. Changed satellite to #18 MEASAT-3A and gives 220-222 signal strength with 100% quality.
6. HD Channels via SDTV with component cable connection shows sharp picture that SDTV can get (no distortion).
Yet to be done:

1. Test SD channels via HDMI.
Suggestions:

1. Remove limitations on how many favourite channels should be set (like the old days).
2. Surf to favourite channels ch+ and ch- when enabled (like the old days).
3. Ceiling functions (like the old days).

I've encountered this problem twice, no choices just unplug the power cable.

got mine yesterday but seems cannot control the astro volume..control from tv only..why ar?

Mine currently installed using cable with old cable which was 8 years old and still using ODU 60. Signal at point #1 was 185 ans point # 18 was 218. Get the installer to check the signal quality before decide to change the cable or mot.

It was mention many many time in this thread that the volume control button only for the analogue audio out, e.g the red and white cable. If coaxial out, then you can't control. If you connect to TV via HDMI, then refer to Byond manual to pair your TV so that you can use your Byond remote to control TV volume.

At last installer contact me to install byond after 27 days of waiting.
He come this this morning but not bring a ladder. So still cannot install byond. He will call back next time for installation. Bodoh punye installer.
Hopefully his next time means tommorow not next month. 

Hi, just wondering how you guys confirm to #18? I got locked signal, but no button to confirm. Firmware Dec 2009, is it firmware related? Or ODU related. Thanks.

If you have a check sign on your entry point # 18, that mean entry point 18 was selected. If you want to change to point # 1, then highlight it and press 'OK' followed by 'YES' to confirm.

As long as you have a '√' mark beside the entry point, that mean that particular entry point was selected. Else power off and reboot as what tHeRiDdLeR say in previous post.

The CS told me that I can cancel the HD subscription and use back the same Byond decoder for the SD service.

ESPN HD:

Astro have said before this ESPN HD will be available in January 2010
We thoughit would be 1st January 2010. We were wrong..
Now the general belief is that the launch date would be the end of January 2010..30 or 31st
Now I dont know if this has anything to do with the launch but

This is on SkySports HD in the UK and on normal ESPN here
So maybe Astro want to make big impact for the ESPN HD launch

Does anybody know when ESPNEWS ASIA will launch on Astro?

why my astro beyond always hang?
"C" , "2" "3" letter always appear on decoder when my astro hang
sometime blank for all at my decoder
must switch off my decoder but sometime after switch off and when want on again...the problem still happen
