Current astro decoder can be done but not the astro beyond setup box. According to astro cust service, the new setup box only 1 to 1.

bro.. r u saying that it can be done even though we subscribe to astro beyond? i don't mind my bedroom without HD quality at least i can watch. Any idea where to buy those splitter/extenders???

HD decoder has HDMI/component/composite video out, so you can actually connect 3 displays simultaneously

was wondering non of the forumer using parellel connection and now subscribed to byond... curious!

rf modulator would be a possible easy route, only need a single rg6 coaxial cable to carry both video and audio signal to remote TV, other method is wireless av sender, no wire involved

there is already a thread discussing this topic, go over there and have a look around

bro... possible to use back the current coaxial cable (from the current decoder @ living hall)
*
do you mean you have unused coaxial RG-6 cable from old astro decoder? Not sure what you mean.

but what you need to do is like this :
astro RCA composite video out + audio out --> rf modulator --> rg-6 coaxial cable --> remote tv antenna in

Spent RM11 on this splitter but found that it doesn't work ! connected both old decoder > s.video > tv and new decoder > hdmi > tv, can watch all channel on byond but when switch to old decoder, it display "service currently not available", no satelite signal at all.

both your new and old decoders will be able to tune to SD channels simultaneously
however when your HD decoder is tuning to HD channel, it selected higher frequency range in LNB, old decoder also forced to receive higher frequency, but there is no SD channels in these higher frequency.

Hi, does anyone know what is the digital audio port behind the Astro Byond box? Is it SPDIF ? Has anyone used the port ? If YES, is the audio good ?

Thanks neb, problem solve ! rclxms.gif
It is true that LNB will be in high frequency when HD channel is selected, in fact, the LNB will be in high frequency even when the HD decoder is in standby mode !
So, whenever I want to switch to old decoder, I will tune to SD channel in HD decoder.
Now I don't have to plug and unplug the connection anymore. icon_rolleyes.gif

from reading forumer's post I believed that HD decoder is capable of selecting particular satellite by altering "entry point", "1" for measat 3, "18" for measat 3A

based on lyngsat transponder frequency listing, astro appeared to be transmitting their HD channels on both measat 3(DVB-S mpeg4/AVC/H.264, requiring lower 9750MHz lo frequency) and 3A(DVB-S2 mpeg4/AVC/H.264, requireing higher 10600MHz lo frequency), by simply receiving measat 3 signal only, this will enable both old and HD decoders to share single dish by using simple satelliteTV-class 2000 MHz splitter without interference between decoders

try selecting "entry point #1" on HD decoder, and see if both kind of decoders can watch SD/HD channels freely without interference.

you would need 75Ω for video use, RG-6 cable is ideal, if you know how to do soldering, cut and diy your own cable

local TV stations will not be ready to produce HD programs, unless they purchase HD cameras and HD production equipments

SD channels will be de-interlace + upscale by the HD box and output through HDMI, if you want to let HDTV or AVR to process SD signal, then you would use component video route

in-line booster should be located as close to LNB as possible, make sure to weather-proof the booster

the further away from LNB, noises pickup by the cable will be amplified by the booster as well, resulted in the drop of signal quality

in-line booster is useful for long cable run

long cable run will attenuate signal strength, add in-line amplifier can solve the problem
