QUOTE(satiash04 @ Jan 20 2010, 10:14 AM) How can I get the dolby sound for HD channels? I have a Sony home theater. Please advise me? Was going to release this when I got home tonight but since you asked http://stinkyfruit.wordpress.com/2010/01/2...b-yond-decoder/As a beta tester and an astro employee I'll try and do a few blog posts dedicated to B.yond and try and wrap up most of the major questions that are being repeated on here. I don't work in our programming or marketing devisions so I'm sorry I'm not able to answer questions about installers, channel line up and pricing. Plus it just wouldn't be appropriate for me to do so. I will, when I get the chance, answer questions related to broadcast and tech. Drop a question on my blog if you like and I'll try to cover that topic in future posts Cheers Justin

QUOTE(satiash04 @ Jan 20 2010, 12:25 PM) Thanks for the info mate. One more question, do I need to connect HDMI cable for both Beyond Decoder-LCD and Beyond Decoder-Home Theater to receive the Dolby 5.1. Can I just connect the digital audio cable from the beyond decoder to my Home Theater? Will it be sufficient enough? it will work but it means using the home theatre remote to change volume settings. It is highly recommended to sync the system and programme the remote to control the amps volume.

QUOTE(RAMChYLD @ Jan 20 2010, 04:34 PM) Ok, I have a few questions. If I'm using HDMI, sometimes the TV will fail to show picture/sound. If switch to composite, okay. Had to switch off mains and switch back on. I think few users here also have that problem. Is it a problem with the decoder? Another question: Can implement feature to allow HTPC owners to integrate their HTPC with the b.yond? I'm having a hard time because I have a Dell 24" Full HD (biggest screen in my room) + 5.1 kit setup on my HTPC but there's apparently no way to take full potential of the setup. BlackMagic Intensity Pro doesn't support HDCP and AVerMedia HD DVR supports HDCP but cannot support 50Hz mode b.yond box output. HDMI: Not a box issue, check your connections. HTCP: So you want to record an un encrypted HD signal do ya?

720p is a full screen image per frame. What do you mean you saw lines? How close were you to the TV?

QUOTE(eMKs @ Jan 21 2010, 10:42 PM) Then you can only see it in 576i only, better get Full HD TV first before subscribe to byond. Actually, 1080i is sharper than 720p. In my 32", i cant barely see the line within 1m I also prefer 1080i mode in football telecast, it's better in La Liga HD so far (at least in my eyes). Maybe need really fast action sport (F1? ) to see the different. we do the football in 720p 720p is a sharper image then 1080i and is more suited to fast moving images. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-JXfyvlPh0

QUOTE(willkso @ Jan 22 2010, 12:03 AM) Bro, Since saw you mention somewhere you're working with Astro, can you explain why those who opt for yearly billing need to pro-rate billed from Byond activation date? In my case, my next billing cycle was 16 March and since my Sports package was price protected until next billing cycle, then after pro-rate due to Byond activation, then how was it being calculated? I yet to get a copy of my statement after 2 call to CS to request for a fax over to me and another request to email me a copy of statement via Astro website submission. If you want me to wait for mailed statement, then I need to wait another 2 ~ 3 weeks. Thanks to Pos Malaysia. Thanks in advance! William wouldn't have a clue? I don't work in that area. ask me a tech question about broadcast & I'll answer it if I can. Sorry you need to call them

QUOTE(minimize @ Jan 22 2010, 01:18 AM) 720p or 1080i... I don't see any different with my eye. Are ur guyz really can see the different? it just a matter of knowing what to look for. My first gig in TV was a Presentation Op. that meant I sat down & controlled the broadcast output of channels. Rolling commercials switching feeds etc. It taught me how to monitor rather the just watch TV. but you're right it's anal to argue over 1080i 720p. They are both HD watch that video linked above to learn how to see the difference

QUOTE(loveu1668 @ Jan 22 2010, 02:49 AM) It can decode DD 5.1 using Amp and HDMI cable. No problem for me so far installed almost 1 month. My BD player, DVD player, astro and DVD recorder go in Amp first then only using 1 HDMI cable out to TV You have not set your amp up properly and are using a simulated surround sound effect from the amp which fakes surround sound even on a normal TV broadcast. You are mistaking this sound effect for 5.1. We don't send 5.1 over the HDMI.

QUOTE(weim76 @ Jan 22 2010, 06:23 PM) Really? The following paragraph is taken from the Astro website on FAQ for B.yond: High-Definition TV programmes are currently being produced in 720p and 1080i, depending on which one the programmes producers decide is best for their show. We will be broadcasting Astro B.yond High-Definition channels in 1080i, which is in line with international industry standards. What I understand from this is, even though some programs (eg, sports) may be produced in 720p, Astro would still broadcast its HD channels in 1080i. So if you think you are getting better quality by setting your decoder to output in 720p for sports program, you may be mistaken. The sports channel broadcast is upscaled by Astro from 720p to 1080i, then downscaled by your decoder to 720p, then scaled again by your HDTV to 768 or 1080, depending on your HDTV. What I prefer is to set the decoder at 1080i (same as Astro HD broadcast), then just let my HDTV do the scaling for me. Just some thoughts on what I understand: correct me if I am wrong. I was under the impression that if the game was 720p we would send it out as that, I'll confirm this next week at work. To be honest I hate football so I've not watched it enough

Sorry Guys, I've made a mistake regarding my information on my blog about Dolby over HDMI. We do send Dolby over HDMI It is pass through audio so unless your TV can down mix a 5.1 signal (most can't) or unless your home theatre does proper switching of HDMI (my doesn't) then you will need to use Digital Coax to get 5.1. This is why there is a warning that you might not hear audio when you select 5.1 as it depends on your systems ablility to down mix a dolby audio signal or not. I'll try to do another blog post soon to clear this up.
