No surprise. CIMB double up my CL last month. All my colleagues also have their CIMB card CL double up.

Unfortunately, it is not by mistake. It's just a devil's offering. Waiting for you to take it and grab a bite on it. Before you know it, you'll be in paralysis state just like the other 2.7 million people in Malaysia. (You'll do the plus and minus calculation on those young executives which are entrapped by the credit card woes)

i went to apply amex ikhwan MBB ytd in MBB private banking and they said maybank is quite tight on approving new applications as they saw my salary is only 2.2k per month.

and hsbc even worst. they called me up n asked me how long i been working. i said 2 months. well is like 3 more days then i'll hit 3 months. then 2nd question salary bank to where? i said maybank. then they terus said they'll call me back. gone case i think

Interesting thoughts you have there. Well IMHO, I don't think CL and credits cards are solely to blame. I mean many can't resist the urge of credits. If you think, Malaysians are solely to blame then countries such as South Korea also face the same problems.

Way back then credit cards were harder to obtain but now with just an annual salary of RM18k per annum, you can get one. And many obtain their first credit card under the pretext of needing to travel, petrol or 'emergency' use. It's the education that's important ... even my friends have the same problem, some of them are even afraid of having RM50 in their wallets.

Need some advice here...
I am a CIMB mastercard classic card holder. I specifically remembered when I signed up it was free for life (supposedly)
However, I just received my bill and to my surprise, I was charged an annual membership fee of RM70.00
Checking back at the application form still states that it is free

What can I do here? I feel like I am being cheated here so I don't feel like paying

Call them and enquire on the charge. Is it the card "annual" fee or did you sign up for something without realising it....

Do you have any supplementary card ? Because as far as i know, RM70 is the annual fee for supplementary card and supplementary card for Classic and Gold doesn't come with automatic annual fee waiver.

Nope, don't have a supplementary card...
Btw, I think supplementary card charge in not RM70 but RM35 (for classic card)

Oh right. Was using Gold supplementary last time and RM70 is for Gold one

I used to have a CIMB classic mastercard as well.
Well, I canceled it once the tax was announced.
CIMB didn't offer much besides the free for life (back then).

So what I would suggest is, just cancel it.
Remember to fax in cancellation letter, scan a copy and email to them.
after that call them and resend the email until they give you a response.

I canceled mine back in late Nov, now still haven't got the confirmation letter that my card is canceled although I've got the informal email confirmation.

my Maybank Amex cc was cancelled in Nov 09 but it still appears in my maybank2u account... need to call them up and request for immediate termination

Ha ha, in that case they will be disappointed, since i'm intended to use this card as my secondary card. Even my main card I hardly use 1/3 of the CL.
