Calling CIMB to confirm my cancellation.
Have been waiting for at least 20 minutes and counting.....

wow, they're busy. sweat.gif
*
my experience with credit cards cancellation (I go to their branches & terminate it):

UOB - efficient
Maybank - very slow (the credit card balance is still there in maybank2u after cancellation - makes me wonder whether they terminate it properly)
CIMB (DA) - ok (but the credit card balance is still there in cimbclicks after cancellation - same lousy as maybank sad.gif )
HSBC - slow service in their branch but the hsbc.com.my account was terminated immediately
Alliance - lousy & slow bank officer
Public bank - efficient, internet account will be terminated after 4-5 days cancellation of cards at branch
Citibank - very efficient (but they will persuade you till maximum level before you terminate it) - citibank online account will be terminated immediately
EON bank - efficient (internet account was terminated too)

*
just check your credit card expiry date (can find on your card "valid thru" - the expiry month)

RM50 Parkson voucher only 8000 MBB TP.

CIMB gave me a 50% credit limit increase. However likely going to cancel my DA Visa as there is zero promotions on it. No more grocery discounts

DA MC is a KIV
1) 5% petrol rebate on 1st day of the month no more according to Contact Centre (no memo from HQ)
2) Only 2% petrol rebate on all days will continue.

I don't drive a 3L guzzler, so I don't think I can pump RM2500 of petrol in a year just to offset the tax (means zero gain)

Some discounts are nice though.
1) Grocery discounts etc.
2) Guardian
3) Starbucks

CIMB is a really a Mastercard driven business...
*
I wonder DA mastercard give discount for starbuck purchases like CIMB master?

I used to have a CIMB classic mastercard as well.
Well, I canceled it once the tax was announced.
CIMB didn't offer much besides the free for life (back then).

So what I would suggest is, just cancel it.
Remember to fax in cancellation letter, scan a copy and email to them.
after that call them and resend the email until they give you a response.

I canceled mine back in late Nov, now still haven't got the confirmation letter that my card is canceled although I've got the informal email confirmation.

Good luck. wink.gif
*
my Maybank Amex cc was cancelled in Nov 09 but it still appears in my maybank2u account... need to call them up and request for immediate termination sad.gif

Guys, any latest attractive promo from Citibank? Last heard is RM 100-200 rebate upon new approval, as a token against the service tax.

Citibank is giving 10,000 reward points for newly approved platinum card, is it worth to apply for it?

Saw the annual fee is RM600 for platinum card. Any chance to waive it if they charge it in the first statement?

thanks hye biggrin.gif

The citibank platinum card sounds very attractive for me (the only disadvantage is no rebate for petrol cry.gif )

Also saw an ad where Citibank Plat now has 5x points at dept store and hypermarkets. Is it permanent?
*
yes it's permanent like amex gold cc. Kinda aggressive promotion by citibank rclxms.gif

You can use the 10k points to pay the first year service tax.

Citibank AFs are always waiveable. Last time my Citibank Plat was free for first year. AFs for second year onwards were also automatically waived by simply swiping 24 times in a year.

Last time Citibank also had similar promotion, such as 10x points and 2x points at selected supermarkets and overseas spending. But the promotions only run for few months. So it is premature to conclude whether it is permenant or not this time.
*
Yes i think their 10k reward points is to attract people to apply for their platinum card and waive the service tax later

It's stated in their website that just swipe 3x in 60 days and you can get 1st year annual fee waived.

Noted their T&C:

1. This Citibank Berhad ("Citibank") Platinum 5X Rewards Points feature ("5X Rewards Points Feature") will run from 19th March 2010 onwards.

2. Citibank reserves the right to cancel, terminate or suspend the 5X Rewards Points Feature with 21 calendar days’ notice.

Anyway it's a good offer by citibank rclxms.gif

SCB and Citibank. They don't give me any problems when I travel, good enough for me.
I nearly got stranded in a foreign land because of UOB .... just a few bucks short of maxing my CL. I didn't realize it until I got back on how close to a disaster had I been. I asked for a temp in CL increase but I didn't realize they did not do it nor they followed my instruction on leaving it there for 2 months. Coz I had been on a back to back assignment.

No offense to local cards but I put a lot of emphasis on speed and efficiency of CS ... I can't afford to wait for more than 5 minutes on an international phone call in an emergency. E.g. Try MBB's speed in actually picking up the call ... probably 1 call itself will cost me a few hundred bucks !
*
it's good practice that before you go overseas, assign someone in Msia (preferably family member) to help & call the bank if there is problem with credit card (eg. loss).

I don't see the logic. Why not just call the bank directly ? Bank's customer service 03 pre fix phone number can be reached by anyway in the world. I doubt the 3rd party can act on your behalf to liaise with the bank.
*
you can call the bank on behalf of the card holder when he/she is in oversea. I have done it before

Before CNY, i apply for HSBC CC (at shopping mall kena drag by the agent as that agent say no service tax and will get my limit to higher than my current CC) then after get the card i never use yet but today receive the monthly statement that i need to pay for rm50 service tax ( that idiot agent promise all bullsh*t coz the limit below my current and now i kena service tax) so if i go to HSBC to cancel the CC will i need to pay for the tax?
*
you mustn't rely on the information given by the promoter, must do some home work eg. check their website for correct information

BTW citibank is super fast for approving my application for platinum visa within 4 working days rclxms.gif

Now thinking hard whether to terminate my DA master before they charge me RM50 service tax later this year... one thing I dont like CIMB is their stupid cash deposit machine always reject new bank notes.

lolz i went to Citibank today to try to register for a credit card but the service there was awful they kept asking me to wait.

and worse of all when i approach the customer service centre i saw 3 people cancelling their CC laugh.gif

ended up leaving the bank. seems like citibank are losing some of their customers.
*
dont go to their bank and apply for credit card.. always apply it in shopping mall. Their service is better

Which branch ? Is it their HQ ? The customer service representatives who are all degree holders with an assigned room to each of them in the main banking hall on 3rd floor responsible for the opening of new time deposit account are all arrogant and lazy bunch.
*
yes you cant simply put in money and apply for new saving/current account in citibank... need to have their loan/credit card first before you can open their account
