IS this gramma thingy going to stop the rattling sound from room especially plaster ceiling? I thought that it helps to tighten the bass and minimize sub distortion.

Actually, the rattles came from a vertical plaster partition between the front half concrete ceiling of the living hall and the lower plaster ceiling in the rear half.
I used latex glue to stick smaller pieces of the acoustic panels to this vertical partition which was vibrating. The joints will be sealed later with plaster and painted over, it looks ugly now. The bass trap I made following instructions on http://www.basstraps.net/DIY-BASS-TRAPS-MADE-EASY.pdf » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « This post has been edited by klimal: Dec 27 2010, 11:56 PM Attached thumbnail(s) |

It is 4 feet high and 2 feet wide.
The two pieces of acoustics boards together are 3.5 inches thick. Sitting on the the 2 inches thick wooden frame, the total thickness is 5.5 inches. It really does the job though. The bass is altogether so much better. |

QUOTE(squall_12 @ Dec 28 2010, 12:03 AM) I think it will help a lot if one has a wooden floor. On concrete or tiles or marble flooring, the vibrations are not going to be transmitted as much. My subdude didn't do zilch to tame the rattling, but it nice to look at.. |

QUOTE(ronaldjoe @ Dec 27 2010, 11:56 PM) Bro, quite STD size lah. Mine also 4' x2'. Since rockwool comes in this size, it is better to do the frame according to its size. Quite troublesome to cut rockwool into other size. IMHO, it is a lot more effective than the Auralex acoustic panels that I have. Cheaper too. |

klimal, thanks for the pictures.
Regarding those acoustic panels you stuck on the plaster ceiling, you just stuck them as is or wrapped them up first? Can't see exactly from your pic. |

Not wrapped. It has a thin white 'tissue paper' protective layer on one side and bare fibreglass on the other side.
I intend to plaster them over and paint them to ensure the fibers don't come loose as an added preaution. During the initial insatl, I applied the latex glue to the sides and entire back area to bind them. This is the actual product. This post has been edited by klimal: Dec 28 2010, 11:50 AM |

The sofa came yesterday and it improved my HT bass response too The old (L shaped traditional 2seater plus 3 seater) one was in the way of the subwoofer output. Last night retested again after Audyssey and the result Now I am running the sub at 75dB without any increase and the LFE is still insane. Should have changed the sofa earlier This post has been edited by klimal: Dec 28 2010, 02:23 PM |

is it really useful to improve the room acoustic/home theater system's performance by placing DIY acoustic panels & bass traps? Basically, you just placed your bass traps at the every corners of your living hall, right? then how you placed your acoustic panels for your HTS?

Hi Klimal,
It is the best & effective solution to "tame" our HM by buying some gifts for her before getting our own gears... But it is even better to buy gifts that are able to help in our audio in some way or another..... |

I changed from the traditional 2+3 seater with arm rests, in fabric, arranged in an L configuration, to a staright 10' long 5 seater in half-leather.
The subwoofer was located at the top of the long arm of the L and the arm rest was blocking the output. The new set allows the subwoofer to have lot's of room to breathe and the difference is astounding. This post has been edited by klimal: Dec 29 2010, 10:01 AM |
