Klimal is using PC. One end of the L-sofa was blocking the sub's output.
I run mine firing at my seating position. laugh.gif

I have the PC-12NSD. with downward firing driver and the port on top.
Yes the arm rest was facing the sub with a space of about 2 feet separating them.

Oh, forgot you have PC sub.

Anyway, yours is an interesting observation. I would not have thought that the arm rest would be an issue with a down firing sub (also since you had 2' space between).

Goes to show how little things can impact sub performance. I remember one hi-fi person also told me leather sofa and fabric sofa also can make a difference for feel. Then on AVS I read how one person added bookshelves to his room and it unexpectedly improved the bass.

So much to learn about how the room, location and even furniture impact sub performance.

Yes, furniture especially sofas make a difference. The tactile feeling can be immediately reduced if wrong sofas are being used.

A friend of mine had to ditch his newly bought recliner leather sofas as he lost the tactile feeling of the sub and it felt like the sub suddenly becomes 'weak'.

Thus far, I have been lucky with my furniture. Now, I am trying to improve further.

The sofa made a quantitative difference whilst the DIY bass trap made a qualitative impact !

Let's just say the difference in sound from the PC12 is enough for me to go through my movie collection again.
Also the wallet needs to recuperate from the X'mas cheers, sofa, freezer and new gas stove.

Maybe next month...dual sub with PB13-Ultra and SB13-Plus?

OT: check out my new sofa in Your Home Theater Set Up. nod.gif

Added on December 30, 2010, 9:52 amWas watching New Daughter last night.
Does anyone else feel the LFE is pretty good in this movie
At 1hr 37 min, when he went down into the mound, there is a sustained LF pressure for about 3 mins.
Could feel my eardrums being pressurized...It is not loud but sustained.
I have new found respect for my entry level PC-12 notworthy.gif ...it didn't have the proper environment to shine previously.

Normally, you placed it at 4 corners of the wall.

Anyway, here's an article for you to read since I am lazy to type. LOL...

Is it placed between the corners or flat against the wall? Wondering how much difference it will make. I've already noticed better sound after setting up a dedicated av room. Even the whafedale 250 suddenly sounded it has power! And one of the corners near my door is rattling when there is more powerful bass. Will try room treatment next before I shift in the svs. Floors are normal tiles so hopefully putting in carpeting will make a difference.

Within an enclosed room, the sub will of course sound loud. Make sure it not BOOM you are hearing tho'
Room treatment will make it sound better, less boom and reverb. Also reduce the null and nodes.

Your sub sounds more powerful because you now have a dedicated room. The volume of your current av room is probably smaller than the previous room, so your sub has an easier time to fill it.

Yes, putting in carpet will make a difference, but probably more for mid-range and treble (for your speakers). Carpet will reduce the reflections from the tiled floor. But carpet is generally not thick enough to absorb the deep bass, hence less effect on your sub. To control the bass, you will need bass traps.

Completed another 3 bass traps yesterday for another forum member from the balance of the acoustic ceiling panels.
Now I am in two minds as to whether I should keep it or sell it as agreed.
I placed them at the other 3 corners of my hall and the difference is drool.gif
Previously, listening to David Foster and friends, I needed to turn down the sub by up to -2dB to -4dB but now it is just right at neutral (75dB).
Have new found love for my PC12. It is much tighter with much better definition rclxms.gif
The sound stage is deeper and wider and the mid range so much crisper now.

Guess I'll have to make another 3 as I have already agreed to sell the bass traps.
