ysterday i called astro, she(customer rep) said......they wll install b.yond within 10 days and wll start charge rm20 in2 my accnt by April. i can keep my current decoder ( max) but have 2 pay rm80 ( installation charges).........sounds good!!..........any different story??

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Starting charges in april??? is this true??? so generous its shocking me....

Just called Astro and was told to wait till next year for their recordable version to replace my AstroMAX. Not sure if it's going to be a new decoder box or just with new firmware to support recording to external harddisk. I was told that they have to transfer my account to Astro B.yond (new smartcard) if I upgrade now. This means that I will not be able to view with AstroMAX even if I get to keep the existing AstroMax setups, unless I subscribe for an additional standard account.

BTW, looks like the current decoder is a customized version of PACE satellite receiver with USB port which Astro claims is going to be the first in the world to support video recording to external harddisk..

yeah lol, most likely will be resampling to higher resolution lol... but its kinda wasting bandwidth if they really do so, black and white, lots of dots/noise/snow around the video.... doh.gif

I guess it should be treated as 2 individual accounts.
Unless it is the 50% second decoder. If change the principal decoder, I think need to change the supplement account as well since they share the same dish.  hmm.gif
*
Well I'm not sure if one is the 50% one (I think I got the second one before that promo) and I don't mind paying in full for the second account, but they both share the same dish. So do I need to replace both?

watch first only comment la.. now is Epi 5 or more already.. .. WWII in HD (history channel).. biggrin.gif

the opening shot : this program contains rare films of world war II, originally shot in color, Found during a 2 year worldwide search..

ok, so the raw footage is very blur or dirty/grainy.. but HD mastering preserves the original quality, I dun need another low bitrate MPEG compression (if broadcast thro normal SD) to add a layer of blur-ness on to already blur/grainy stock footage.. biggrin.gif

also the other composites like photos/ pictures and CGI text are all HD sharp.. so is the razor sharp H channel logo..

kapultek: dream on, RM20 mkv HD player.... yeah right....

I have checked, for existing apartment/condo/high rise building that shares the dish (meaning you dont have individual dish sticking out yr balcony), there will be a wait of 18-24 months for them to change the dish/cable/infrastructure.

However, if you building has plenty of requests, they could escalate in installation process, but as for now, they are mainly catering to existing subscribers with their own dish units only.
*
i can confirm that oso....sent them an email last saturday, got a phone call from them 10mins ago....

altho the lady on the phone doesnt sound like she knows an awful lot...she confirmed some of my worse fears...

1) none of the condo/apartment using centralized dish is B.yond ready, meaning they will have to replace everything.

2) she say will need to replace the cabling also..this kinda baffled me cos all units is ready with concealed wiring & tv point. they can easily run new wiring in their risers, but how on earth they gonna go into each individual units & say "maam, can i come in hack your wall to conceal the new astro cables in order for you to enjoy HD?" who gonna pay for the repair + painting works??

the only other way is to run those cabling on the surface which will be ugly as hell...

either way, i still dun understand how the gonna replace the cables...

3) astro currently 'working' with all building managements to replace current dish...estimated duration, 18-24months..

whatever it is, unless my management allows me to install individual dish on the wall (also need to borrow their gondola to install it) there's no way to enjoy HD...i'll be very jealous of you guys....very very jealous....

i'm wondering if i can start a petition to get the management to speed up the upgrading works hmm.gif dunno how many souls in my condo as anxious as me getting HD content from astro tongue.gif

i currently connect my astro to
1) PC
2) TV downstairs

they using the RF connector port, once change to astro byond, how to share it? guess have to change new cable? and how about control the remote

Buy slingbox.

QUOTE(de_lasoul @ Dec 14 2009, 01:42 PM)
I got a problem here. My cables (from the satellite dish) to the decoder had been concealed in the wall.

Do we need to change the cable completely? If yes, then I may have to hack the wall to chg the cable type.. wife is not going to like it.
*
Don't need to change the cablelah. I test with my old dish and cable and it still works. No problemo.

QUOTE(smileguy @ Dec 14 2009, 01:44 PM)
Guys, my HD ready TV uses Component cables port .Can i buy HDMI to Component cable and use for Astro ?Or is it better to connect direct using Component cable RBG ? Infact most earlier sets all use Component only the latest have HDMI ports.pls help cry.gif
*
Component can support high res (up till 1080i if I'm not mistaken) but astro box will output 576i only so better use HDMI to component and you get the about the same as HD.

QUOTE(apexg2 @ Dec 14 2009, 02:01 PM)
ok...let it clearly here...i already enjoying the hd byond...and for your info, the quality is better than usual, even sd channel...like b4, if u use the component cable, the picture will be more clear, now using the hdmi cable, for sure the quality of sd will be more...but dun aspect so much from la, better than before..
about the channel for hd, i think if anybody want to subscribe to hd, i think better do it now coz, later so many want to subscribe then u have to wait for ur turn....the 4 channel will start at 18 dec but, u think ar, if u subscribe now, its oni 3 days more and i think oni some of us will get it b4 18 rite...now they are playing hd channel on channel 100....and the picture, dun compare it la, sure like u watch the tv at shop with the bd player...u wont regret(from my own opinion)
they will change the cable, remote, decoder box and oso the dish...me got picture but better if somebody else put theirs here...
erm, i think all the info can get from the astro website...
the interface is better than b4, no more the blue bar....
*
Congrat. Now u know what I see. So anybody who still decide whether want to subscribe or not, subscribe fast or you'll be in a vely vely long waiting list.

Its not easy woo to change all the cable and splitter. U'll need a new switch to split all the signal. The higher the building and the more unit in it the longer it take for upgrade. You are lucky if they manage to install it in 18 month.

Start the petition, get all owner to sign and give it to management. Don't forget petition Astro too to upgrade ur building first.
