Today I saw a Sony Bravia 40" costing RM9,000 (720p & 1080i).
I was very impressived with the quality of the picture that I thought it was running a Blu-ray demo until I realize that they actually use a Sony DVD player! Not Blu-ray, not HD-DVD, but a Sony DVD player!
Sucks that we still don't have HD transmission otherwise that TV is a very worthy purchase.

QUOTE(munky @ Oct 1 2006, 08:19 PM) Guys, i have an LG plasma that has HDMI. What does this HDMI really mean ? Does it supports hdtv ? Blurr HDMI is a connection standard that supports Hi def video AND audio in a single cable. This means that a single cable can carry all HD signals without having degradation. So from your HDMI DVD player/Bluray/PS3 the connection to your TV will be directly using this cable. What this also means is that with HDMI Hollywood can implement HDCP - which is an anti-piracy system that ensures that you can only see full HD resolution if you use HDMI. If you use other cables your resolution will be downscaled.

I tried my xbox360 with my 42 lg plasma, i selected 1080i on the xbox console settings, and it works just fine. Does that mean that my tv supports 1080i ?
I checked the lg manual, but cant find whether it supports 1080.

1080i is supported by most 720p TV's,1080i is basically 540p.1080p however is beyond reach of all 720p TV's since its more than 2 times more resolution than 720p.

I take it u meant the width and length instead of square area? Also we can't exactly call 1080i as 540p since the resulting image is not 1920x540, but should still be 1920x1080 (broadcast 1080i is usually 1440x1080i instead), only the rendering method is different. 1080p renders full frames while 1080i in alternating lines. Do take note that for games, a progressive scan is always recommended. This post has been edited by redbull_y2k: Oct 9 2006, 11:45 PM

QUOTE(stringfellow @ Oct 1 2006, 09:21 PM) Amazon does not ship electronics outside of its region, eg. Amazon.com does not ship outside continental America, the same with Amazon.co.uk and such. Too bad.... Because I targetted the Samsung LN series..... I think Samsung's LA series is the same series as LN only downgraded the dynamic contrast only. LA has 5000:1 contrast ratio (dynamic) LN has 6000:1 contrast ratio (dynamic)

Anyway, if the screen not big enough, it's qutie hard to tell the difference. But usually the interlaced scanline is quite noticeable if u look at text.

Oh it's 42" btw
Anyway, i read an article about HDTV, the human eye is another factor. Not every eyes can see the difference, bla bla bla. So i guess i only need to use 720p, since someone said progressive scan is recommended for games
