QUOTE(koopa @ Jun 1 2006, 03:45 PM) Yeah i saw the lifespan on wiki. it seems 10 hrs = 15 years.. so plasma is better for longer use? Is there any significant diff between Hitachi/ Panasonic/ Samsung/ Pioneer? 15 years is a bloody long time already. Any TV that last 10 years is good enuff already...heck, you'll want to change to bigger better tv 10 years down the road anyway. by that time, who knows, HDTV could mean 16,000 x 9,000 pixels!!!! (and cost RM 2K hopefully). And maybe OLED would have replace LCD/Plasma as mainstream by then... who knows!Last question. |

QUOTE(wcliang @ Jun 5 2006, 01:29 PM) oh ya... Just bought the philips 29pt8845 last friday for about 1.5k from hsl, manual stated that it does support 720p and 1080p as well. Took abit of time to tune the color to my liking. The first 5 hours or so the color and PQ of the progressive scan image through my denon 1920 dvd player connected to the TV was awful ( pixelization / noise / jaggies/ vertical lines all over the screen) . Still running in the tv and can see the PQ improve day by day. HD CRT TV: 1. sony xxxxm61 series(using by xxboxx) price 1799++ 2. philips xxPT8845 series price ?? hmm...limited choice we have... philips problem with 360? no 720p ?...oh....only 1 to choose I notice that in dark scenes in a movie, the black level through progressive is way darker than interlaced. Dunno whether its the player or the tv causing this. Noticed the color from the philips is not as vibrant as my old JVC 50hz tv, but the color seems to look "thicker" and more natural. Hope this helps! This post has been edited by JonC: Jun 5 2006, 02:50 PM |

Cool. So you DID buy that one.
Mine is the 69PT29 or something, with Pixel Plus 2 - at RM 2300 way more expensive than the 8845 one. In a way I paid a premium for the Pixel Plus 2 processing at the expense of 720p capability, but still, am happy. Overall you'll notice that Philips' tube gives a darker black than most sets - but I think for RM 1.5 k it's a good buy. |

QUOTE(wcliang @ Jun 5 2006, 09:06 AM) can somebody list down the HD CRT TV currently in market....not many i think? I'm using the Toshiba 29JZ9UES as mentioned in my earlier post. It's capable of 480p, 576p, 720p and 1080i. I use it mainly for gaming on my Xbox and PS2. Will plunk down some cash on a 360 when the time is right. For the record, I paid RM1899 for it.1. sony xxxxm61 series(using by xxboxx) price 1799++ 2....wat else... |

Just an update, the philips 29pt8845 wont do 576p. The tv will detect it but the picture will be jumping all over the place and there will be some vertical lines on the image. Just double checked at philips website, the 576p mode is not listed... only 480P / 720P and surprise surprise - 1080P.

QUOTE(xxboxx @ Jun 8 2006, 06:50 PM) does this 2 model support 60Hz? or only 50Hz? i've read thru the tech spec listed in the manual book for the SlimFit TV and it listed 1080i support only for 50Hz. For 60Hz, it's only 480p. Weird huh? Such a waste... if you live in Australia or Europe with PAL console that would be fine. but if in malaysia, most of the thing is NTSC, which need tv capable of 60Hz. |
