Announced at Nokia's Remix event in London, at the beginning of October 2008, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is a mid-range, music focused phone, running S60 5th Edition on Symbian OS 9.4, with a 3.2 megapixel camera, integrated GPS, WiFi and HSDPA connectivity, and a 3.2 inch touch screen. It's the last item on this feature list which draws attention to what would otherwise be a fairly standard mid range phone. For the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is one of Nokia's most widely talked about (and leaked) phones of recent memory. There's no doubt that it is going to garner attention, coming in the wake of the recent spate of touch phones, including, of course, the Apple iPhone. While it's not Nokia's first touch phone (Nokia 7700/7110) or its first recent touch device (Nokia N810), it is the first S60 touch enabled phone and is a significant landmark in Nokia's mobile device story. However, it is worth noting from the start that it is not "Nokia's touch phone", instead it is the first in a portfolio of touch enabled phones from Nokia. Changes/Improvements/New features/Bugs noticed from  v21.002 to v30.0.011

Standby screen:

    * *When Music Player is operating, and seeing the track name on the screen, and then when one song ends and goes to the next track, the speed at which this happens has improved yet again from 21.002, although the noticeable change is not as much as from 20.149 to 21.002.

Call log, Contacts and calling function:

    * *Calling speed (from standby screen to Contacts or Call Log) and transition to call/disconnected screens even faster than 21.002, is more than the instantaneous that I stated for the 21.002, it has improved yet again.
    * *New menu option in the in-call menu to Send MMS during phone call.
    * *Loudspeaker maximum volume has seemed to decreased

Maps:

    * *Maps startup is now almost instantaneous, speed through all the Maps menus very fast, even faster than Maps 2.0
    * *Switching to different views is very smooth and fast now, i.e. to Map 3D etc.
    * *Maps version 2.0 week 39 remains the same, although the Maps is able to be upgraded to Ovi Maps 3.01 flawlessly

Music Player:

    * *The biggest change is the equaliser improvements. There is a huge improvement in sound quality, even background sounds and other channels are more noticeable. The default equaliser settings are quite good. And bass is less crunchy than before.
    * *Split-second delays now do not exist when pressing the volume keys to change between volume levels. In the past, there was some degree of delay, even running multiple applications now, that behaviour has been improved remarkably.
    * *Freezes in the music player have not been evident to me yet in my days of usage with the new firmware . Which is a marked improvement in the functioning and stability of the music player. Screen tearing and slow speed for album art to appear is still present though.

Camera and Photos:

    * *Biggest change is the reappearance of use of the volume keys to zoom while taking photos/recording video
    * *Going into Details is faster than 21.002, almost instantaneous now
    * *Scrolling speed through thumbnails is only minimally jerky now, also scrolling through photos at 100% view has improved in speed so it is now very smooth and almost instantaneous
    * *When going into menus in Camera, the speed is instantaneous

Video centre:

    * *Logo has changed for the video centre in the menu
    * *Appearance of video menu is different and seems to have inherited the newer N-series/E-series style simplified logos
    * *Speed in the video centre is much improved and is almost instantaneous
    * *Changing between volume levels in RealPlayer is instantaneous, fast-forward/rewind speed and resume of playback after these functions is improved and almost instantaneous. Sound quality appears to have been improved also.

Search:

    * *Application has been upgraded from v4.08 to v4.10.0904
    * *Logo has changed and is now reminiscent of the newer N-series/E-series simplified styling
    * *Performance is faster and Yandex search service has been removed in favour of Live Search and Google (Note: this is for the APAC variant, will vary between different regions and specific countries)

Web:

    * *Rendering of webpages has improved in speed since 21.002
    * *Rotate Screen option speed is now almost instantaneous
    * *Speed in Web options menu is now instantaneous
    * *Loading of Minimap on side when scrolling down pages does not have pixelation anymore

Other:

    * *Overall system speed has been improved so it is somewhat faster than 21.002
    * *Scrolling in the Multimedia menu from one tab to another whilst multiple applications are running, has improved marginally in speed
    * *Overall stability seems to also have been improved, have not had one crash or freeze where I have had to remove the phone battery. The slight freezes that have occurred, the phone has recovered from flawlessly.

Here is another news from Nokia. Nokia just release an application that we can all benefit from it. It’s still in the works for some phones, like Nokia5800, but sooner or later we’ll get it too. It’s called Nokia Point & Find.

Nokia Point & Find is still in beta version. How it works is you point your camera to an object and the app will provide information for that object accessing the Internet. As for now, they are focusing on movies, which I think would revolutionize the search for movies using your phone. You can point your camera to a poster of a movie and the app will provide information that you need like watch trailer, nearest cinema and read reviews. It’s basically searching for all information online without actually typing, but pointing the object itself. The app will use your camera, of course, Internet, GPS positioning. It will also support text to entry search. Objects are tagged through a database and returns links to your devices for easier Internet search. It will also support reading of bar codes, which I think would be really neat. You can scan the bar code and check it online for a better price.

Overall Nokia Point & Find is not just targeting Nokia end users but also Companies who would venture to this new way of advertising. This is a pretty smart move for Nokia. Since you always carry your phone and with all the technology that it can do, why not put it to use.

You can check it out on their official website. It’s not ready for Nokia 5800 yet. I installed it with no problem, but it won’t open at all. So we’ll have to wait and see. It shouldn’t take that long.

Nokia Point & Find

We want to let everyone know that Nokia 5800 North American version has now received an update from Nokia. Version 20.2.014 is now available through Nokia Software update.

Other sites already confirmed that the updates are almost the same as the one from Europe versions, similar to Version 20.0.012. I don’t have NAM version but they claimed that the changes are as follows:

· Dictionary, Search and Application update was added
· secondary camera now available
· touch screen is improved
· new icons for Podcast, Download!, Music and Switch
· geo-tagging available
· general operation seems smoother, screen rotations faster
· ‘Search’ searches for Internet content as well as for your content on your phone
· Telephone’s keypad has a new design
· bug fixes
· playing back videos had less hiccups, were 5800 now becomes almost as good as a dedicated YouTube client.

General Design and Hardware

The 5800, at 111 x 51.7 x 15.5 mm, is a reasonably small package. It is similar in size to the N78 (113 x 49 x 15.1 mm), but slightly heavier at 109g versus 102g.

Volume wise, the 5800 is bigger at 83 cc compared to the N78 at 76.5 cc; it does feel bigger in the hand, mainly due to the greater taper on its edges. While the 5800 is

significantly bigger than the typical mid-range phone and would do well to be thinner, it compares favourably to other smartphones and does not feel over sized.

Thanks to its relatively narrow width it is, proportionally, closer to the traditional candy bar shape (long rectangle) than most touch screen based phones (short

rectangle). If you think of your typical candybar smartphone, remove the keypad and lengthen the screen and you'll get pretty close to the feel of the 5800. The key

advantage of this shape is that, for most people, it will be possible to use the device with just one hand; even those with smaller fingers should be able to reach all

points on the screen.


The 3.2 megapixel camera focuses well and takes great pictures in daylight -- indoors is likely a different story, as with most cameraphones, but there's a rather

powerful dual LED flash to help out with that.

All of this -- in addition to things like GPS, WiFi and a side-loading microSD slot (there's a free 8GB card included) -- are wrapped up into an elongated, chubby package,

hence the Tube moniker. We'd hate to have something of its shape and thickness in a tight jeans front pocket on a regular basis, but we must admit that it's very

comfortable to hold and use with a single hand, something that can't be said for all touchscreen phones.

Software

It's S60, so if you were hoping for something else you'll be sorely disappointed. Nokia's done "just enough" to turn the traditional interface into a touchable one with

version 5.0, sizing up icons, adding finger-friendly buttons in lieu of traditional menu items and so forth. What Nokia hasn't quite figured out is consistency, requiring

double taps in some places, single taps in others. Scrolling through most lists requires dragging a scroll bar, pulling down as the list flies up, but the browser has touch

and drag scrolling. Nothing's too frustrating or unreasonable, but this is no seamless experience.

What's new is a touch-sensitive button above the screen that drops down the Media Bar for access to music, movies, photos, the browser and sharing. Not life changing,

but quite convenient. There's also a new home screen with a "Fav Four" of sorts across the top and little else. Tap that friend, and you can get a quick look at recent

calls, messages and even related RSS feeds. Pretty neat if you're a loner, but there's no way to add more than four friends, or view similar info for your regular

contacts that don't make the cut. Luckily, the traditional S60 home screen is also available.

For text input you have four options: handwriting, mini QWERTY keyboard, full screen QWERTY and alphanumeric keypad. The first two are stylus-based (that mini

QWERTY is truly mini), while the other two are only available in landscape and portrait modes, respectively. Like we said in the hardware end of things, the resistive

touch means using the tips of your fingers instead of the pads, which we find a tad frustrating, but the keyboard in landscape mode is truly gargantuan, and after an

hour or two of learning we're guessing you could rattle off some pretty lengthly emails or Great American Novels. Luckily, if you're a T9 fan there's nothing stopping you

from keeping the phone in portrait mode and rattling off text messages with the touchable alphanumeric keypad, and the phone is frankly too narrow to work well with

QWERTY in portrait. The handwriting recognition looks good enough, but we revert to a 2nd grade writing level whenever we pick up a pen, so that stylus is staying

firmly in its holster. We're not convinced the touchable browser is a step up over existing WebKit implementations on Nokia's other handsets, since the tap to zoom

function is slow and unreliable -- and no, you can't select text from web pages to copy and paste. Panning around the page is also jittery, perhaps a tad worse than the

G1 -- nobody has managed to pull off iPhone smooth yet in this department. We were using a slightly early software build, so some of these problems might be fixed in

the final version, but it wasn't encouraging. Still, there's no denying the advantages of viewing the web on a 640 x 360 LCD.

We tested out an accelerometer-based driving game, but it was overly sensitive and no-fun-at-all -- though we're guessing that wouldn't be a hard fix. The graphics

looked pretty good, though. Movies are potentially this phone's killer app, but you'll have to do the conversion just right to get smooth playback at full resolution. We did

see some video shot with the phone (that Sea World shot in the gallery) and it looked pretty good.

Conclusion

If you haven't picked it up by now, Nokia isn't going after the power users here. The phone will be marketed under Nokia's "Live" banner, and really concentrates on the

most basic communications -- calling and texting -- with a whole bunch of multimedia piled on top. Nokia's Comes With Music helps on that end of things, and the screen

certainly helps with video, but this is no iPhone when it comes to to solid media integration or full-featured media player apps. On the communication side, we're sad to

see Nokia almost burying some of its S60 advantages. Everything's still there, but Nokia didn't put the gruntwork in necessary to really take advantage a next-gen

interface as it relates to keeping track of emails, social networking, IM and the correspondences of more than four people. All that said, Nokia isn't claiming that the

5800 is the be all end all, is releasing it with a very aggressive price point (€279 unlocked), and promises more where this came from.

Today Nokia unveiled the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition - a full GPS-centric variant of the Nokia 5800 XpresMusic. Using the momentum gained by the original XpressMusic handset, the new gadget matches the functionality of its predecessor almost perfectly. The main differences are the added lifetime Drive and Walk navigation license and the cool looking stand and car charger that allow you to easily use the phone as an in-car SatNav unit.

There's only one other difference compared to the original model according to the data sheet of the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition. It will be available in Chrome and Black color combo rather than any of the two-colored versions of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition will come in three different flavors, each packing quad-band GSM connectivity. Two of them will also pack WLAN and dual-band 3G with HSDPA, while the third one (we are guessing it will be available in either China or some emerging markets) will lack both connectivity options.

Unfortunately, judging by the promo video published, the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition's 3.2" screen seems to be as poor under direct sunlight as the one of the first S60 5th edition handset. Considering that the handset is meant to sit on your dashboard, frequently exposed to sunlight, this flaw might make it somewhat less than a perfect travel companion.

But never mind our concerns, here goes the video in question for you to check out. It introduces the keys features of the Nokia 5800 Navigation edition and demonstrates the last version of Ovi Maps GPS navigation software that comes preinstalled.

Where to get Handbrake? Uncle Google is your best friend.

Oh, another thing... If you're running Handbrake in Vista, MAKE SURE its running WITH Administrator Rights (Run as Admin).

Step 1:

1) Open your video file... Click here and select Video File.
2) Check that the path is correct.
3) Click here and select the DESTINATION DIR/FILE (what file you want it to turn into and where do you want to put it). Check the box besides it afterwards.
4) Check that you've selected the BASIC preset from the sidebar (MAYBE I'll prepare a 5800XM XVID preset later when I've finished tweaking them video files to Optimum Transcoding PerfectionTM... biggrin.gif ).
5) Click here and choose MP4 file (it might also be a good idea to DO THIS before NO 3).
6) Click beside ANIMORPHIC, choose NONE. In the "Width/Height" box above it, enter "640" into the FIRST box. Leave the 2nd box empty.

Step 2:

7) Click on VIDEO.
8) Click on VIDEO CODEC. Select MPEG-4 (XVID).
9) Go to AVG. BITRATE and key in 1200 (over the default 1500... This is also where you'd want to experiment to get smaller files).

Step 3:

10) Click on AUDIO & SUBTITLES
11) Check the picture. You probably would have to change the MIXDOWN to stereo, and the BITRATE to 128 (also, you can experiment here, try MONO and/or a lower BITRATE).

12) Click on START.
13) PROFIT!!!

In all actuality, converting MKV/OGM/DVDs aren't much different from the above, only with the addition of Choosing Title/Chapters (skip to the movie part, not the titles, or a specific part in the movie - it's in the Source part) for DVD; Choosing Audio Streams (again from the Audio part of the above) for MKV/OGM/DVDs; and Choosing Subtitles (see the audio part) for MKV/OGM/DVDs.

ii) Channels = 2
iii) Bitrate = 128

5) Save the settings so that you don't have to configure them anymore next time. To save, Right Click --> Export (Save) a Super? "Settings Profile"


To convert

6) Right click and choose "Multimedia Files", browse the files you want and then place it in.

7)Finally, just press the "Encode Active Files" and wait for the file to be converted. The file will appear under the Output folder of your designated Super Converter folder.

- FPS set to 25
3) Resolution here choose “640 x 350 - EGA”. We have tried using ‘custom’ and setting 640×360 but it doesn’t play on the Nokia 5800.
4) Set where you want your output to be. Here we chose the desktop so we don’t have to go finding it again
5) When you are very confirm that all the settings have been finalized, click the “CONVERT” button on the top.

Step 05 - Let it run
Basically let it encode finish and you are done! Easy isnt it?

Note: If you see message “This application has failed to start because libmp3lame-0.dll was not found.” or similar, download libmp3lame-0.dll file and copy it to folder where you extracted Free_Zune_Video_Converter.zip archive. (issue already fixed in version 1.1)

To make sure the pins can touch the contact points (highlighted above) properly, I bended the earpiece pins 'upwards'. (Be very careful here not to break the pins. You may want to hold points A and B while bending.


Now, you're done with bending. Next, put back the earpiece. Here's the tricky part, as you may have forgotten which is the correct position to put in. No worry, the part is keyed, meaning, it can only go in one way. Try the other way if the 1st trial fails. DO NOT force it in, it should go in smoothly.

5) Put back the the cover and the plastic 'frame'. Now you're done
and can forget about the earpiece problem forever

I have been looking for an application that can store information and protected by password. I’m sure that there are a few of them out there but this one is absolutely free. It’s called Hack Proof Password Manager. Based on its name, it’s hacked proof, although I can’t it prove myself, I’ll take their word for it.

When you first load the app, it’ll ask for a password, which will become your global password. Meaning, if you or someone else tries to log in and doesn’t know the password, the only other option is to erase all data or quit the app. The interface on this app is user-friendly. Under options you can add, delete and update information. You can change your password, and export and import your data file. You can also get the option menu when you double click and hold data under content list.

There are a lot to choose from when it comes to adding data type. A few of them are bank account, email information, combination lock and network login. It even has general purpose, which I think can be use to put some personal notes. There is a lot of information that you can select when adding information to a type of data. Aside from password, account number, pin code. There are a few more that can be use to input data. The app is set to close after certain amount of time of no use, although it’s not configurable. My guess is about two minutes.

I think overall this application is a very powerful and useful. It can be use to store important information and it’s absolutely free

So far this is what it can do:

4. it does not consume much RAM at all as evident by my 51.2 mb free RAM while the app is still running

General
1. Use Dialer and press # for about 2 seconds will switch the profile between Silent and General; press and hold 0 will open the web browser; press and hold 1 will open the voice mailbox
2. There is a shortcut key for Music, Gallery, Share, Video, Web shortcut at the top right corner just below the front camera
3. Press and hold the Green caller button when standby mode will activate the voice command. You could call the name from the contact or application name.
4. Organize your sms by grouping them like outlook by Messaging -> Option -> Setting -> Text message -> Other -> Show messages in groups -> Yes
5. Notification light will blink if there is unread sms/missed call. It could be turned off at Settings -> Notification light -> Off
6. If the touch input is not accurate, you could calibrate your screen at Touch Input-> Touch Screen Calibration -> ( Tap around the 4 dots at the corner)
7. Turning control functions:
a. Rotate your screen horizontal or vertical
b. Silence your phone for incoming call by rotate your phone with screen facing down.
c. Snooze the alarm by rotating phone screen facing down
8. Theme effect will give 3D and transition effect if on but will slow down your tube considerably. Settings -> Personal -> Themes -> General -> Themes effects -> On/Off
9. Shortcut to exit application : Press and hold the middle white button then press and hold the program that you wish to quit, an open/exit option will pop out (useful for those haven’t install handy taskman yet)
10. When using handwriting input, slide from left to right is Spacebar, right to left is Backspace
11. Organize your menu by Menu -> option -> organize. You could drag and drop the location of the application you wish to relocate.

Battery saving
1. Always turn off wireless scanning, Bluetooth when not in use
2. For those not using 3G, choose your network mode to “GSM” instead of “Dual mode” which will consume more battery. Settings -> Connectivity -> Network mode -> GSM
3. Less Display Light
a. Setting -> Phone -> Display -> light sensor (move the slider to the left)
b. Setting -> Phone -> Display -> Light Time-Out (lesser time to save battery but annoying if too short while you are playing games)
4. Always terminate the application properly that is not using by using Option ->Exit. It might be running background and consuming battery which you don’t know.

Memory Saving
1. Restart your phone if the memory less than 30MB, you could either soft reset (User a dialer and dial 5 * * then call) or hard reset by pressing the power button
2. Use Handy Taskman to close all application regularly or kill application that is not in use.
Camera & Picture
1. Some noise could be reduced if set the ISO sensitivity to low instead of auto.
2. When viewing pictures, you could use your stylus to view for previous (slide left) or next (slide right) picture like iphone feature.
Video
For converting video that is high quality to play at 5800, should use the mp4 format as below (All is 16:9 widescreen):
a) Xvid @ 678kbps resolution 480×272
b) Xvid @794kpbs resolution 640×352
c) H.264 @ 512kbps resolution 400×224
d) H.264 @ 550kbps resolution 400×224 (Recommended)
Music
1. If you can’t find your songs after transferring from your pc to memory card, go to music player -> Option -> Refresh library

Application
1. Always install your phone theme on the memory cards. This is because if some theme does not work (Christmas tree) then you need to flash your phone.
2. Uninstall your application in proper way. Use Menu -> Setting -> Application mgr. -> Installed apps -> Choose application then option n uninstall

Known Bugs
1. While u are using music player on your phone and there is incoming calls, the phone will use the default nokia ring tone as the memory card is used by the music player.
2. The inclination sensor is over-sensitive. The screen will changed to horizontal mode even slight rotate.
3. Regarding the screen blank and locked when calling, this is because the proximity sensor if blocked it will make the screen black when calling. The block is including some glossy transparent film, so please cut out the film around the sensor located between the middle earpiece and front camera.
4. Do not save your themes/apps in phone memory, save in memory card instead. In case some applications or themes are corrupted, you could just reformat your memory card.
5. (With V11 firmware) You cannot rename newly created equalizer presets. (NEW)

well thanks to all developers of HelloOx our 5800 is finally hacked ...
and since like with all other previuos phones u had the ability to change the startup nokia shaking hands animation and sound to your custom animation and sounds .

now you can do that even with your 5800 ...change the default startup sound and animation to your likes ......explore your 5800

to begin with u need a file explorer like xplore or y browser
-fisrt u need to place the startup sound file( startup.mp3) to C:\system\sounds if directory not found just create it.

-then place the startup animation files ( Startup.mbm, Startup.mif, STARTUP.r01 ) to C:\resource\apps

- copy 101F8763.txt to C:\private\10202be9

-- Now you need to make (101F8763.txt) that you copied as a read only file.
do this by highlighting the file & Menu files then click attributes, then just check the read only box.

now restart ur device . On boot up the device will look in C:\resource\apps for the Startup.mbm and C:\system\sounds .

in the attchment u will find a startup animation file and vista start up sound ..
u can find more start up animation and sound files from net

If there's anyone still dont know how to setup ur yahoo mailbox,
Here are the steps to retrieve ur Yahoo! Mail using nokia 5800:-

Step 1: On ur pc, go to ur yahoo mailbox > click options > click pop access and forwarding > enable web and pop access


Step 2: On ur nokia 5800, go to Menu > Settings > Phone > Application Settings > Messaging > Email > Mailboxes > and define new mailboxes > Click start > Select mailbox type POP3 > enter ur yahoo email address > incoming mail server is pop.mail.yahoo.com > outgoing mail server is smtp.mail.yahoo.com > select ur access point in use > name ur mailbox, eg. yahoo

Step 3: Go to Menu > Messaging > yahoo > Options > Email settings > Connection settings > incoming email > enter ur email address as username > password > and the following entry

Step 4: Click back > Outgoing email > enter ur email address as my email address and username > password > and the following entry

And u can retrieve ur email to ur nokia 5800 or send email using it via WLAN already

**NOT ALL FONTS SUPPORT CHINESE, PLEASE TRY YOURSELF**
There are times when a person gets tired of the way his/her phone’s UI looks, on most occasions the simple task of changing the theme acts as a refreshment, but those of you who seek more - read on. Changing fonts on the 5800 is a simple matter of copying a folder across and restarting the phone, the process takes under 2 minutes and should you want to go back to the original fonts, that takes even lesser time.

Below are a few demos of different fonts on the 5800, there is a download link at the bottom of each set should you decide to try the font on your own device. Click on the screenshots to enlarge.

PROCEDURE TO APPLY NEW FONTS
* Connect the phone in the ‘Mass Storage’ profile to the computer. Alternatively, you can use the memory card reader.
* Goto the Memory Card, it shows up as a Removable Disk in ‘My Computer’. (Windows)
* Navigate to the ‘resource’ folder and open it.
* Copy the ‘Fonts’ folder into in. (Download links to Sample folders below)
* Eject the device and restart.
* You should see the new fonts applied.




PROCEDURE TO USE YOUR OWN FONT (*.TTF)
* Make 4 copies of the font you desire to use and place them in a folder labeled ‘Fonts’.
* Name them exactly as:

*Copy this folder to the ‘resource’ directory on the memory card and restart the device.

PROCEDURE TO REVERT TO THE ORIGINAL
* Connect the phone in the ‘Mass Storage’ profile to the computer. Alternatively, you can use the memory card reader.
* Goto the Memory Card, it shows up as a Removable Disk in ‘My Computer’. (Windows)
* Navigate to the ‘resource’ folder and open it.
* Delete the folder labeled ‘Fonts’. Alternatively you can choose to rename it to ‘Fonts2′ or anything that you like.
* Restart the phone, the originals should have been restored.

In case something goes wrong e.g. the characters are not displayed and so on, simply turn off the device, remove the microSD and start the phone. (You can delete the Fonts folder subsequently) Since we are using the removable microSD to experiment this process cannot damage your phone. Also, while choosing a font do keep in mind the fact that it will affect the font of the Web Browser also, so please keep something readable. E.g. The second font in the above list, looks ‘cool’ but will make web browsing a pain

Yeah changing new font is not that easy way to do.

It take sometimes to keep downloading and put in to the folder and restart the phone and open it and view. If not nice you have to do it again thats wasted time =[

And sometimes the fonts doesnt fit on it ex. like the "g" too long or etc..

Well what i know is not every single font is fit on our 5800 i had been tested like over 20 fonts. you have to slowly test 1 by 1 that you only can understand.

As like J-Slade said the font is too big once go for setting "display" changed smaller size and the menu icon also become small and the words is doesnt appear is totally not fit on it.

And right now I hope if anyone that been used a nice font please share with it and the font name list down.

What do you need?
1) You custom font. For this example we will be using Eras Medium ITC Download Here
2) You need the original Nokia 5800 fonts. Download Here
3) You need a font editor. For this example we will be using High Logic Font Creator. http://www.high-logic.com/fontcreator.html
The idea is pretty simple actually which is to copy over the custom font and overwrite into the original font but to keep the chinese fonts intact.

The first step is to open both your font files. Firstly we open the ERASMD.ttf and S60SC_C.ttf.
Then what you do is basically click on any of the characters in your custom font (in this situation is ERASMD.ttf) then select all (Ctrl-A) and go to Edit > Copy

Then go to your original font file (S60SC_C.ttf) and paste the file. Take notice, you need to scroll down and select the comma “,” then go to Edit > Paste Special. The comma can be found right after this wiggly looking underscore. I will explain why the comma at the end of the tutorial.

Next you will prompted with a small window. Be sure to check “Glyph Mappings” and select “Overrule Same Mappings”. What this means is basically for the ABC and 123 fonts, it will overwrite the old font so that the new custom font will take over. Then just hit OK. Give it some time to process.

The final step is to save the file. Go to File > Save As and save with the same name (S60SC_C.ttf) into your newly created Fonts Folder.

Repeat the same steps from the begining and merge your custom font with the other font file (S60TCHK_C.ttf). The reason for this is because actually S60SC_C.ttf and S60TCHK_C.ttf may look almost the same file but they contain some different characters in each.

So if you want to use it for your Nokia 5800, repeat this tutorial two times with the respective files. As for the last file (S60ZDIGI.ttf), just use back the original file because this file does not really contain any alphabets and it is okay to use back the original one.

1) Why do I need this tutorial again?
Basically for those who want to merge their custom font to enable Chinese/Japanese/Russian character support on their Nokia 5800 (or any other phones for that matter)

2) Why copy from the custom font to the original and not the other way around?
Because the original file has about 30,000 glyphs (characters) and if you copy it over the software will crash.

3) Why do I need to start pasting only after the ‘comma’?
Because if you paste any earlier than that, it might overwrite the special wingding characters such as the ‘arrows’ and the ‘circle with dot’.. etc

4) I don’t have High Logic Font Creator, where can I download it?
Well you have to purchase it from the link given at the begining of the tutorial. It costs $79 for the Home Edition and $149 for the Professional Edition

Another theme that caught my attention.  It’s called Black & RedV2 by dhanusaud. This theme has a professional look and it looks good on Red Nokia 5800. It simple and it has character, and the colors blend nice.

Let me start of with the wallpaper. It’s a black and grey color combination on grid style. The wallpaper fades from bottom to top, which gives it a significant look. The color red also coinside with the other two colors and makes it a nice combination. It also helps highlights the icons giving it a stylish look. The analogue clock is simple and noticeable. The digital clock is what I like most. It really looks like an old digital clock using a dot-matrix style. It’s better if you use military time. Almost 90 percent of my icons were converted to this theme, meaning it’s compatible to most apps icon. Another thing that I noticed is when you select option from menu or any other app, the whole screen turns red making everything covered by a red color and only showing the options, which makes it easier to read. Another thing that Iwant to mention is the keyboards and keypads. They are all highlighted with red and uses white font for easier read. The tabs in contacts and messaging works without a problem.

This theme really hits the spot for me. It’s very clean looking and color combinations really attract my attention. I didn’t see any problem with the theme. Overall this is a great theme and like I said especially if you have the red Nokia 5800.

Here is another theme. This one really caught my attention. I personally like pictures of skies. I think background skies for Nokia 5800 is really nice to look at, especially if the picture is taken or created in hi-resolution. This theme Mystic by PiZero is one of those.

I’ll start of with the main screen. The blue midnight sky really blends in with the green aurora that mirrors through the water. The rock formation is quite okay. It could have been a little brighter. The clock icon is really simple but it really says sophistication. The digital clock is quite all right too. When you are on the menu the background is the same as the wallpaper but its blurry which makes it look like you are looking at the icons right in front of you and the backgrounds is out far.

The icons are the same as the default. I noticed that the scroll on the right has a strike making it look like it’s being divided, I don’t know the purpose of it, but I guess it’s ok. The tabs under messaging and contacts are working great, those are important to me. Somehow if the tabs are not included in the theme, that part won’t work at all, that’s why I always check. The keyboards are ok both Full screen and alphanumeric. Mini QWERTY and handwriting is none functional. I’m not sure if the creator forgot about it.

Phase 02 - Installing the applications
Step 5 - Connect your Nokia 5800 XM (via mass storage) or memory disk to your computer and make sure it’s detected by your computer.
Step 6 - Now, run the recently downloaded files on the computer, one after another, in this order:
1. v4.xx.xxx Support File,
2. v4.xx.xxx Basemap File
3. GMXT v5.00.50

Note : Some people actually may be wondering. What does it mean by ‘run the downloaded files’? Basically all you have to do is double click on the files and run the Setup. Each of the installers have a GUI (graphical user interface) for the installation to the memory card.

Step 7 - Disconnect the memory card/Mass Storage from computer. It’s time to configure Garmin on your phone. Go to your phone’s File Manager and find GarminMobileXT.sis at the root directory and install the .sis.
Note : If you can’t find GarminMobileXT.sis, sometimes it might be in File Manager >Garmin >Applications >Symbian >RES >GarminMobileXT.sis
Note : During this step you might get an expired certificate error. To workaround this, there are 2 solutions:


Step 8 - After that, go to Applications> run Garmin Mobile XT. It won’t connect to GPS satelite yet, so just ignore it.
Step 9 - You should have received your device unlock code from the manufacturer of Garmin, however if you haven’t, there are instructions on the Internet to guide you on how to get yours.
NOTE : To use the internal GPS you would have to purchase the license from Garmin or an authorized dealer near you.

Step 10 - Copy the device unlock code and paste it in a notepad, then save the file as SW.UNL
Step 11 - Reconnect your via cable using mass storage.
Step 12 - Copy the SW.UNL file into \Garmin\ in your memory card
Step 13 - Then, run malfreemaps installer and copy gmapsupp.img into \Garmin\
(if you are unsure on how to install malfreemaps and get the gmapsupp.img file, check out this link.)
Step 14 - Disconnect your phone from your computer.
Step 15 - Go to Applications >Garmin Mobile XT >Settings >System >Remote GPS >Select ‘Use Attached/Built-in GPS’ >Enable and it’s all done.
Step 16 - Wait for satellite signal to strengthen and then you can start navigating around various places with confidence!

8. It will read the permanent memory file and save it on the disk at following path.

10. Now scroll until field [308], and on the 5th Record (5=) your security code is saved at there.

GPS means The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) developed by the United States Department of Defense and managed by the United States Air Force 50th Space Wing. It is the only fully functional GNSS in the world, can be used freely, and is often used by civilians for navigation purposes. It uses a constellation of between 24 and 32 Medium Earth Orbit satellites that transmit precise microwave signals, which allow GPS receivers to determine their current location, the time, and their velocity. Its official name is NAVSTAR GPS. Although NAVSTAR is not an acronym,[1] a few backronyms have been created for it.[2]

Since it became fully operational in 1993, GPS has become a widely used aid to navigation worldwide, and a useful tool for map-making, land surveying, commerce, scientific uses, and hobbies such as geocaching. Also, the precise time reference is used in many applications including the scientific study of earthquakes. GPS is also a required key synchronization resource of cellular networks, such as the Qualcomm CDMA air interface used by many wireless carriers in a multitude of countries

POSITIONING METHODS:

Phones that are capable of using GPS (Global Positioning System) will have several different methods of positioning. You can select which positioning methods you use by going to Menu> Tools> Settings> General> Positioning> Positioning Methods.

(1) Integrated GPS - This refers to a phone's built in GPS receiver. GPS satellites continuously transmit their location relative to the Earth, and your phone's GPS receiver can calculate its own position if it knows the position of at least three satellites. Today, almost all N- and E-series phones have integrated GPS, plus a selection of 6xxx phones.

(2) Bluetooth GPS - If you do not have integrated GPS or you wish to improve GPS reception, you can connect your phone to an external GPS receiver device which can replace or complement Integrated GPS.

(3) Assisted GPS - This is a network-based service used to help fix a GPS position. When using this, small amounts of data are transmitted so you need a network-based internet service from your network operator for which you may be charged by the download volume. Only small amounts of data are involved, but you should take care using this feature if you are travelling outside your own country as roaming data charges can be high.

(4) Network-based - whenever your phone is switched on and in range of your operator's network, it knows which base station (commonly known as the transmitter or mast) it is connected to, and using that information it can approximate your position using this network data. This is an additional help in obtaining a GPS fix, and it also makes a brief data connection.
OBSTACLES:

A number of factors can affect your phone's ability to obtain its GPS position:

(a) First time use - Fresh out the box, it may take 15-20 minutes for your phone to get its first ever GPS fix, longer in extreme cases.

(b) Built-up areas - if you are in a city with many tall buildings, they may interrupt the signals from the GPS satellites and make it harder to obtain and maintain a fix.

© Weather - adverse weather conditions, particularly heavy cloud, can affect the strength of the GPS signals getting through from the satellites.

(d) Receiver location - Do you own an N95 or N95 8Gb? Your GPS receiver is under the keypad, so ensure you always have the slider open when using GPS.

(e) Your Windscreen - Heat-reflective (athermic) windscreens common in Citroën, Peugeot and Renault cars can interfere with GPS signals, as can windscreen heating elements often found in Ford cars. If you have one of these, an external GPS receiver or signal booster can be very useful.

GO to settings -> COnnectivity -> scroll down to Admin settings -> APN control -> Turn off

1st solution = Do a soft reset of your phone by *#7370# with default lock code 12345
2nd solution = Either back date your phone date to an earlier time or check whether is it correct

Provide a background service that monitors incoming messages which may contain information used by Garmin Mobile XT.

A new setting will allow the user to turn this option off (Tools -> Settings -> System -> Launch Background Service).

Okay, this might be an obvious point, but it's a very important one and you'd be surprised how many people still don't get this! :-)
The battery is charging when the battery icon's bar chart (in the top right corner of the screen) is animated. When the battery is full, the bar chart is full and has stopped moving. If you want to make sure the battery is full, wait for the animation to stop moving before you disconnect the charger.
The whole charging process on an empty battery may take a couple of hours, but this can vary tremendously depending on what kind of charger you use. The higher the charger's "mA" rating, the quicker it will charge the battery. Different Nokia chargers have different mA ratings, which are visible on an engraved panel below the prongs.
Incidentally, you do not need to empty the battery before charging. Modern lithium phone batteries can be recharged however full they are.
Money-saving, tree-hugging hint: Disconnect the charger from the mains wall socket when not in use. Chargers which are left plugged in use a small amount of electricity which will cost you money and cause needless damage to the environment. This applies to all electronic appliances, unplug them when you don't need them.

Do NOT switch the phone off!
We're often told to turn lights off to save energy, but this advice does not work on mobile phones.

In fact, although it sounds crazy, your phone's battery charge will last longer if you DON'T turn it off!

The reason for this is that devices like the 5800 are actually pocket-sized computers with a phone built into them, which is why they're often called "smartphones". Just like PCs, smartphones take a while to boot up, and this booting process involves lots of intensive computing tasks that help to get the phone ready for use. Switching a phone on actually uses far more battery power than simply leaving the phone on, and of course if you switch the phone off you will have to switch it back on again at some point.

If you switch a phone on and off lots of times, it will use up the battery very quickly, because you're asking it to boot up lots of times. Your battery will last a LOT longer if you just leave the phone on all the time, and charge it while it's still on.

A fully-charged 5800 can stay switched on in standby mode for up to two weeks, because in standby mode with the screen switched off it doesn't have to do much except wait for calls or commands.

You don't need to do anything special to put the 5800 into standby mode, it is automatically in standby when it isn't being used.
There is no real need to ever switch a mobile phone off, unless something has gone wrong with it and you want to try rebooting it.

Shut down unnecessary applications
The 5800 is an S60 smartphone, and can run several applications at once (for example you can listen to music while surfing the web and receiving instant messages). However, the more applications you run at once, the quicker the battery will be drained, so it's a good idea to shut down any applications you don't need.

You can see all the current running applications by doing the following:

Hold down the white menu button for a few seconds (you can let go of the button once the Open Applications menu appears). Select an icon in the Open Apps menu to go to that application, and exit the app from its own options menu to shut it down. Alternatively, most apps can be shut down by going to them and pressing the red button below the screen.

The fewer apps that run simultaneously, the longer the battery will last.

Running fewer apps simultaneously will also make the phone run faster overall, because it has less to do at once.

Turn down the 5800's screen brightness to the lowest acceptable level
One of the biggest battery drains on portable devices is the screen's lighting system, which is why mobile device screens usually dim themselves when they're not in use.

You can make your phone's battery last longer if you turn down the screen's brightness to the lowest level that you're okay with. Here's how to do it on the 5800:

Press the white menu button, select "Settings", select "Phone", select "Display", select "Light Sensor", then adjust the slider towards "Minimum" to dim the display. Use the lowest setting that feels comfortable. When you've finished, select "OK", then press the red button to go back to the front page.

Switch off your 5800's screen when not in use

When you're not using the 5800 it's a good idea to lock the screen, partly because it stops the screen being touched by mistake, but also because it switches the screen off too. The phone itself carries on running, but the screen being off will make the battery last a lot longer.

You can lock the screen manually by flicking the "keyguard switch", which is in the middle of the right side of the phone. You can unlock the screen by flicking the same switch again. (Don't worry about the switch returning back to its original position, it's meant to do that.)

In case you forget to do it manually, you can make the screen dim automatically when it isn't being used. Here's how to set the screen auto switch-off period:

Press the white menu button, select "Settings", select "Phone", select "Display", select "Light Time-Out", then move the slider to the quickest setting that you feel comfortable with. When you've finished, select "OK", then press the red button to go back to the front page.

Alternatively, you can set the screen lock to go on automatically (which dims the screen as well as locking it):

Press the white menu button, select "Settings", select "Phone Management", select "Auto Keyguard", select "Keypad Autolock Period", select "User Defined", then enter how long you want the phone to wait before locking the screen, select "OK", then press the red button to go back to the front page.

Use headphones instead of speakers

If you listen to music on the 5800's built-in speakers you will use the battery up more quickly than if you listen through headphones. Headphones are inside your ear so they use much less power to deliver the same intensity of sound, whereas speakers have to get the sound to your ear over a much longer distance.

Avoid using the camera flash unnecessarily
In some situations (such as a dark room) you need to use the 5800's camera flash in order to get a decent picture, and in other situations (such as being outdoors on a bright day) the camera will automatically switch the flash off when taking pictures.
However, there are many situations which fall between these two extremes, where the 5800's camera will automatically use the flash, but where you could get a reasonable photo without it. In those circumstances you may want to switch the flash off because it's using up the battery unnecessarily.

To switch the 5800's flash off completely:

Press the camera button on the right side of the phone, select the flash icon (by default it's "A" for Automatic), double-click on "Off", then take the picture with the camera button.

You can choose the other flash modes (On, Auto, Red Eye Reduction) using the same process.

Use 2G instead of 3G
The 5800 can use both 2G and 3G phone networks. The advantage of 3G is a very high speed of internet access, the latest 3G networks have a technology called 3.5G HSDPA which lets you use speeds up to many megabits, comparable to PC broadband connections at home. The disadvantage of 3G networks is that they use up a phone's battery more quickly during calls.

The most popular kind of 2G network is called GSM, and the most popular kind of 3G network is called UMTS, and is also known as WCDMA. The 5800 uses GSM for 2G and UMTS/WCDMA for 3G. (Incidentally, there's also a 2G network called CDMA but this is nothing to do with UMTS/WCDMA.)

By default the 5800 uses 3G networks, but automatically switches to 2G when there is no 3G network available in your current location. If you don't need high speed internet access, try switching your phone into 2G-only mode in order to save battery life during phone calls. Here's how to do it on the 5800:

Press the white menu button, select "Settings", select "Connectivity", select "Network", select "Network Mode", select "GSM", select "OK", then press the red button to go back to the front page.

If you want to go back to automatically selecting 3G networks when available, repeat the above process but select "Dual Mode" instead of GSM. If you want to use the internet remember to do switch back to Dual Mode, otherwise your 5800 will be stuck in 2G mode which means a very slow internet connection.

Try to get a good signal
The better the signal on your phone, the easier it is for the phone to connect to a base station (aka phone mast or phone tower). The easier it is to connect to a base station, the less power a phone uses during calls. By making sure you have a good signal during calls, texts or internet use, you can make the phone's battery last longer.

You can see the current strength of the phone's signal in the top left corner of the screen, and below it it should say "3G", "3.5G" or display an aerial logo in 2G networks. The higher the bar, the better the signal, and the longer your phone's battery will last when connected to the base station.

You can get a better signal by being out in the open, or if you're indoors try to be near windows. The best signals are when you're as near as possible to a base station, with a clear line of sight. Modern phones are able to connect even when they're deep inside buildings, but this requires more power which uses up the batteries more quickly.

Use Offline Mode (aka Flight Mode)
If you're using your 5800 just for offline things like listening to music or watching a video, and you don't need to take any calls on it, you might want to switch it into Offline mode (also known as Flight mode).

Offline mode means that the phone switches off anything which involves radio transmissions, such as phone calls, text messages, internet connections, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. This is often required on aircraft, in certain hospitals and on building sites with explosives, due to fears about radio interference (the aircraft requirement is why it's also known as Flight mode). Going into Offline mode switches off all of the phone's current connections.
You can manually switch on Wi-Fi in Offline mode, but the phone will first remind you that you're in Offline mode and ask you for permission for each connection. If you've been told by someone to stop radio transmissions, don't allow such connections.
Offline mode saves a certain amount of battery life as the phone no longer has to use its radio transmitters, but it does mean that the phone cannot send or receive any calls or texts. (The one exception is an emergency number such as 112 in Europe, 999 in the UK or 911 in the US, all phones can contact emergency numbers in all circumstances, even without a SIM card.)
It's also worth noting that Offline mode doesn't actually save that much battery life, as modern wireless devices are very good at making connections and then keeping them open with as little power as possible. Using connections uses up battery life, but simply having connections open doesn't use that much power.
To put the 5800 into Offline mode:
On the phone's front page (aka its standby screen), click on the date at the top of the screen. From the drop-down menu, select "Offline", then select "Yes" if necessary. The signal bar will turn into an "X" to show that the phone is no longer connected to the phone network, and all other wireless connections will also be broken.

To put the phone back into normal mode:
Click on the front page's date again and select "General" , then select "Yes" if necessary. (You can also use this menu to select other profiles if you prefer, profiles can be customised by pressing the white menu button, then "Settings", then "Personal", then "Profiles".)

1. Connect your 5800 to you PC in Mass Storage Mode
2. Perform a Disk check of your memory card beforehand
3. On your PC you will need to have allowed to "Show" hidden files, do this from Explorer/Tools/ Folder Options/ View and select "Show hidden files and Folder"
4. Open your SD memory card/Removable Disk in My Computer on PC
5. Go to E:\ Private there you will see 3 folders 101f8857, 101ffca9 and 10281e17 .
6. Go to Private\101f8857\Cache\E there you will see .dat files. Delete all the .dat file BUT NOT the E Folder. Shown above right
7. Now go to Private\101ffca9 there you will see another .dat file, Delete the dat file NOT the folder.
8. Finally go to Private\10281e17 There you should see 4 files 2 are Mp3 files other are Podcast files. Delete mpxv2_2.db & mpxv2_2.db-journal for Mp3 files list and Delete pcv6_1.db & pcv6_1.db-journal for Podcast files list. Shown above right
9. Close all windows and disconnect your Phone. Go to Music Library and it should automatically start a refresh.

There is a question that people always questioned on the forum and another sites. The problem that appears to be common to all s60 3rd devices. The topic is how to removed themes from your device? Mostly they removed it using Application Manager, for example N80IE, and on newer firmware for other devices. Don’t worry, as long as you install your themes to your memory card there is an easy way to remove those unwanted themes. Here is some steps to guide you.

1. Connect your device to your PC in ‘Mass storage’ mode - or insert your Mini SD card into a card reader and connect it to your PC.

2. Once your PC recognizes your card a new drive will appear under ‘My Computer’. Open it, and browse to \private\10207114\import.

3. Browse through each of the folders in this directory to find the theme you would like to remove. The MBM, MIF, and SKN files in each folder should each be named after the theme - so if you want to remove a theme called “My Theme”, look for “MyTheme.mbm” etc.

You may see some MBM/MIF/SKN files named simply “themepackage.mbm” etc. In this case, simply open the SKN file in Notepad and you will see the actual theme name in the first few lines of text

Here is an example: you can see that the actual name of the theme is N80 Simplified v2
4. Once you’ve found the folder containing the theme files you’d like to remove, simply delete the contents of the folder (don’t delete the folder itself).

Now put your card back in your phone you’ll notice that the theme is no longer listed under themes and you’ve freed up some space on your memory card. In newer devices, theme folders/files are located in two different directories [!:\private\10207114\import] and [!:\resource\skins] - delete the like-named folders from each directory to remove themes.

Forgot your memory card password? If you set your phone free you can read your memory card password from a file on your internal phone memory.

Your memory card password is stored in C:\sys\data\mmcstore (this folder only exists if you've set a memory card password).

Switch "caps" off (Symbian hack required), use a file manager like X-plore or ActiveFile to copy the file to another location, and open it in a text editor like LightNotepad.

Your password appears at the end of a line that starts with some cryptic code. Suppose your password was NOKIASUX, then it will appear in LightNotepad as XXXXXXXxxx]NOKIASUX.

If your password has numbers or other strange characters, there may be question marks in between them. Just ignore those question marks. If you open the file in Notepad on a computer with Windows, there will be spaces in between the characters of your password.

Hi People,

This is the problem I have and any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Well, the problem is on the home screen (desktop) of my phone none of the icons are working. When I select the "Shortcuts Bar" as the homescreen theme, the phone does not display any of the shortcuts on the home screen. When I touch the locations where the shortcuts would be (on the homescreen) I can see the hit area getting highlighted, but nothing happens (also none of the shortcut icons are shown either). Further, the "phonebook" and the "dialler" icons at the botton of the screen don't work either, when I "touch" them (atleast the two icons can be seen here, but nothing happens), plus pressing the "green" hardkey does not bring up the dialler screen as well. I tried everything I could think of, such as stripping out all themes and even tried a facotry reset, but none of these did any good.
Everything else works fine on the phone (including the contacts bar on the home screen) and the phone has 40+ mb free (C drive). So, I'm pretty much clueless as to what might be wrong here.

Greatly appreciate anyone's help on this.

Homescreen Solutions:

To those have missing icons on your shortcut bar, you can recover it back without hard reseting your 5800.

just direct to c:\private\10202BE9\persists\ and delete 10275102.cre and restart.

your 5800 should hang in the blank homescreen. this is because it is recreating the deleted file which may be corrupted.
later a while, your homescreen shortcut should reappear and working fine.

Well, this only happen if hack is installed.

Memory card data Solutions:

1. First check whether your memory card is under which Class. Generally there are 3 types of class for MicroSD memory card in the market now which are: Class 2, Class 4 and Class 6. Higher class does not mean its the best where as it is actually depends on the compatibility with its host/phone/device. It is a common known problem that memory card MicroSD Class 2 is not compatible with 5800XM thus causing lots of data problem. It is recommended to at least use Class 4 to avoid this problem.

2. How to check which Class is our memory card??? Please refer to the picture below.

Now if your card falls under Class 4 or 6, then you can rejoice yourself and continue with the next step, else insist on changing the memory card where you bought your phone or just buy yourself a new one. If your memory card is already under Class 4 or 6 but the problems still persist, kindly proceed to the next step

4. Do a PC Suite Backup and PC Backup of ALL your memory card data to avoid data lost. Please make sure the backup is done successfully. At least do the backup twice to avoid any data corruption during backup transfer.

5. Do a CLEAN format of your memory card through your PC and please make sure to do a disc check for bad sectors etc.

6. Do a CLEAN format of your memory card through your phone.

7. Restore back all the backup data to your memory card and hopefully the data problem will be solved.

8. Do remember to do backup regularly to avoid your precious data being lost.

9. If later on the problems still persist then probably your memory card has hardware problem and you will need a new memory card

OBSTACLES:

A number of factors can affect your phone's ability to obtain its GPS position:

(a) First time use - Fresh out the box, it may take 15-20 minutes for your phone to get its first ever GPS fix, longer in extreme cases.

(b) Built-up areas - if you are in a city with many tall buildings, they may interrupt the signals from the GPS satellites and make it harder to obtain and maintain a fix.

(d) Receiver location - Do you own an N95 or N95 8Gb? Your GPS receiver is under the keypad, so ensure you always have the slider open when using GPS.

Step 10 Copy the device unlock code and paste it in a notepad, then save the file as SW.UNL

Step 14 Disconnect your phone from your computer.
Step 15 Go to Applications >Garmin Mobile XT >Settings >System >Remote GPS >Select ‘Use Attached/Built-in GPS’ >Enable and it’s all done.
Step 16 Wait for satellite signal to strengthen and then you can start navigating around various places with confidence!

Then click on the GMAPSUPP for MXT Symbian. Place the downloaded IMG file into Garmin Folder in ROOT memory card.

There is a GOLD version for members who contributed to the community. In order to use that version, you have to contribute POI (Point of Interest to the Forum - Read Malsing Forum for more info) or bug to them. Then you can request the KEY to unlock the GOLD MAP

Which map is better is up to the user's own opinion. Below are some facts that will help you judge. Comparison is based on MFM v1.45 vs MSM v2.30b.

* For Perlis, Kedah and Penang, MFM has more details than MSM as MSM is still using old maps from MFM mappers.
* For Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang, MFM has more details than MSM as MSM is still using old maps from MFM mappers.
* For Perak, MFM has more details than MSM as MSM is still using old maps from MFM mappers.
* For Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, MFM has more details than MSM as MSM is still using old maps from MFM mappers.
* For Negeri Sembilan, MFM has more details than MSM especially at Seremban and vicinity
* For Melaka, MFM has as much details as MSM in Melaka town. MFM is more up to date but may not have as many POIs. For smaller towns such as Masjid Tanah, MFM has more details.
* For Johor, MFM has as much details as MSM except in Batu Pahat. MSM has better coverage for Batu Pahat. MFM has more details for Segamat, Kluang, Muar and Ayer Hitam.
* For Sabah and Sarawak, MFM has less details and coverage than MSM. MFM's focus is on major town centres.
* For Singapore, MFM has less POIs than MSM.

1. Download the latest MFM/MSM map from previous Q&A
2. Install the map to your PC
3. Copy the .img file to replace the existing one it your garmin folder

p/s: Maybe you can back up the existing map in other folder first , coz latest one may causing some issue so can copy back

u can use only 2 file name, gmapsupp.img and gmapsup2.img

1. Money/Budget: How much money you have, what's your budget for ur new phone, this is the first constraint, what u buy is what u willing to spent... if you do not have budget constrain then you can go to next step.

2. Functionality and Performance: If you do not have budget constraint, then go for the best hp in the market, despite the price is skyrocketing till 2k-3k... if you thinking about issit worth it or not... then you can go to next step...

3.Value for money: Simple calculation on how to select your phone, 1st: List down all the function you hope you can acquire, 2nd: List down all the function that you must have, after u list down, then you can start comparing....... how? how to compare? below is the steps:
a. Put separate pricing for all the things you wan according to importancy. eg. GPS: RM200, WIFI: RM100, this is to quantify what you need and dont need.
b. Add up all the value together and you get a total price, the one with the highest price using this method will be the one that can satisfy you the most, however if you thinking worth it or not you will have to look at the difference of your ideal estimation and the actual price, lowest difference between ur estimation and actual will be the one u looking for.
