a quick question for credit/debit card for both visa and mastercard

if you got SecureCode/Verified by VISA code registered,

can you still use it to purchase on websites that doesn't support this?

such as Steam Store

Yes. There won't be any problem. Amazon.com for instance, doesn't support MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by VISA and yet all valid credit cards and debit cards are accepted.

how to make formal complain when our card (or their merchant terminal) had problem while in the transaction..

i had two bad experiences last weekend..

1st case 1710, 28Nov
purposely having dinner @ KFC & ordered over rm30 to enable me 1 transaction of debit mastercard promotion of free night stay in genting.

before that i ensure there's mastercard logo accepted @ the KFC's door & there's no notice that they couldnt accept card.

the moment i handed them my card (alliance bank debit mastercard), they gelabah already said card cannot laa.. i said try first... then the cashier tried...& it certainly not working.... i gave my Citibank Visa Debit ATM.... also cannot... then i used cash to settle it... missed opportunity there... if i know i would rather eat at mamak then...

i keep the receipt & requested their manager a Feedback form... now i want to forward the complain to mastercard & visa...

2nd case 1641, 29Nov
this time @ mydin jln masjid india k.lumpur, I purchased groceries total of RM43... i handed my alliance bank debit mastercard... the cashier proceeded with payment, but the merchant terminal keep give msg "Processing Card"... After few tries also still processing card...again i gave my Citibank Visa Debit ATM... still the same thing happened...

end up paid using cash again... missed opportunity again... Mastercard & Visa promotions & (rebates/points)...

i want to ask Mastercard/Visa how reliable their debit card are? its not card or chip issue since in between that two events I successfully swiped @ petrol station, SOGO & hotel & my funds more than enough even with pre-authorized been applied to my card... today also i swiped successfully....


so 3 parties i want to address the complain should be:
1) merchants (KFC, MYDIN)
2) banks
3) Visa/Mastercard

when transaction didnt go through & took long time, i sometime felt embarrassed... did u all feel the same ?? sure peoples queuing up behind us said "why dont use cash...faster...dont have money kaa ??"

I second that It's the stares that embarrass you the most

I had the same experience with you too at a chinese groceries store but not everytime, sometime can sometime cannot.
I did ask the owner & he say this is due to the system.

BTW, do you know that the mastercard promo for the genting room is extended to 28/02/11?

at KFC I often experience some kind of "problem", either no line or something. But I will insist that I want to use my Direct Access Credit Card as I get 10% rebate. Actually sometimes they just don't plug in the line. Once at Subang Parade KFC made others wait 10 minutes until it can work, who cares what others think, it is my right to use card since they have the signboard stating that they accept MasterCard.

with only three receipts minimum rm30 purchase using debit mastercard @ BHPetrol will entitled the cardholder to redeem 1 Nite genting stay & RM10 BHPetrol cash voucher !!! ...but i dunno this promotion will be extended or not becoz it mention end at 30Nov...

most KFC are like that one....only a few KFC make their card payment facility ready & available all the time... i know which so from now on i target the same KFC only la becoz at that particular KFC always no problem & no such hassle in accepting card payment...

sometime the signboard not only accept mastercard but prefer mastercard...i assume they prefer mastercard more than cash la kann...huhuhu...

Yes! You are right. But the BHP promo is ended on 30/11/10. The CS say they have no idea whether it will extend or not BUT for the normal mastercard promo is extended to 28/02/11.
FYI, UOB debit mastercard also got xtra promo on top of this normal promo whereby you can get xtra 1 voucher if you comply to their T&C

seems like that is merchant problem.
As KFC at my area, has paypass features, but when customer want to tap thier card, the KFC person said NO, this machine is not functioning.

Yes!, this is mostly merchant problem. Maybe they don't want to absorb the merchant fees & lazy to do credit closing end of day.
Should ask the name of the cashier, note down the time & date, tell them that you need to complaint to the their HQ about their card payment always down, and i believe they will welcome your debit card.....

Today I went to HLB to get TAC and HLB online password for my ATM card so that I can register for HLB online account in order for my children age 10 and 13 to register for iTunes account with their HLB Junior Debit Card. However for the iTunes account, my children had to state age above 18 (i.e. born before 1991) else cannot register. So to those who want to use HLB Junior Debit Card for Internet - firstly you (the parent) got to register for HLB online (if you don't have one) and then add the child's debit card account into parent account and set Internet Spending Limit. Damn troublesome just to register iTunes account with HLB Junior Debit Card but I guess this is good so that the child cannot simply buy things from Internet if the parent does not allow them to do so.

My son age 13 also applied for Public Bank Electron card, but as usual, PBB damn long to process. He applied more than a week ago, and after approval have to wait again for the pin number. All in all, Electron would take about 3 weeks to get the card activated. However Electron easier as no need have online account with PBB and can use the card immediately for Internet Transactions once activated.

Today I went to HLB changed my ATM card to debit card, then i went home and try online purchasing and register to paypal, but all decline and fail. I don't know why also.

Is it debit card need wait few days to active?? Any idea?? : /

finally i use my maybank cherry visa for airline ticket purchase for my eurotrip, thanks guys.

Have you registered for Verified by VISA on their website ? Try to register for that one first and then try again. If it doesn't work then there is a huge chance you can't use it for Paypal. When Maybank first introduced their VISA debit card last year, it can't be used for Paypal too until Public Bank Day2Day VISA debit card comes out. Anyway, good luck.

Verified by VISA there don't have HLB to choose , only hsbc and public bank.

Finally found it on HLB site, registered and try online purchasing, finally ok.

any link on debit mastercard stay & charge promo been extended bcoz last saturday when i redeemed the voucher, the lady said no extension for any promo whether its BHpetrol or general promo of collecting 5 receipts...
