yes, it should be signed by the card holder. No problems using it at merchants where my kids sign for the transactions.

debit card - normally linked to saving account with ATM function.
However,
some debit card standalone and not linked to saving account such as public bank visa electron. But they didnt call it prepaid card, for them it is debit card. standalone debit card has card account, not saving account.

prepaid card, we need to fund in before can use. prepaid card also using card account?

here, i dont know whether prepaid card & standalone debit card are same?
is just name different? anyone know?

Daily withdrawal limit should be the same as the one in Malaysia which is RM5k unless you have changed it to a lower amount. Withdrawal fee at non-Maybank ATM outside Malaysia is RM12/withdrawal and make sure you have activated your card for overseas use. This can be done at any Maybank ATM nationwide. Have a good trip smile.gif

Apparently, some retailers add on the service charge for Debit cards, but NOT Credit cards. Anyone come across this?

It is good as long as you have activated it for overseas use smile.gif Make sure you have registered for MSOS too. Search for it in their website and follow the instructions.

When you buy an airline ticket online and have submitted all your card details, you will be charged for the ticket in full right away. As for the petrol pump, RM200 deposit is required if you swipe it at the petrol kiosk. But if you choose to pump first then settle the bill later on at the counter, then you'll be charged only the exact amount.

Yes, you can. You must have a CIMB bank account and access to CIMB Clicks. Then u can tag your card to your account before being able to add credit to it...

not really,
CIMb e.matercard prepaid card issued by bank,
Ambank NEXG prepaid card issued by bank,
eonbank few prepaid co-branded card issued by bank, not the co-branded company,
alliance unique prepaid card issued by bank.

and .. yes , tunemoney prepaid card, not issued by bank.

debit card at fuel station:

if u swipe at terminal, it will hold your Rm200.

if u go to counter, tell people there an amount before pump, it will NOT hold yo Rm200, u just pay exact value u told them.

Debit card usage soars
SOURCE
QUOTE
KUALA LUMPUR: The usage of debit cards has increased by a whopping average of 63% every year from the period between 2007 and 2009, revealed Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin.

He said the number of debit cards in circulation totalled 33.8mil up to the end of September this year.

"However, the amount spent via debit cards is smaller than credit cards. RM3.2bil was spent through debit cards while expenditure through credit cards was about RM57bil," he said to a supplementary question by Azan Ismail (PKR-Indera Mahkota) at the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.

Earlier, Dr Awang Adek debunked the perception that most of those who were bankrupt due to credit card usage were youths.

"There are no credit cardholders aged 25 and below recorded to be bankrupt based on statistics by credit card companies from 2007 to 2009," he said in his reply to Datuk Siringan Gubat (BN-Ranau).

He added that an average of only two people went bankrupt every year due to credit card debts for those aged between 26 and 30.

"More than half of those who went bankrupt due to credit card debt for the three-year period are individuals aged over 45," Dr Awang Adek said.

He added that 0.01% or 405 out of 3.2mil principal credit cardholders went bankrupt because of credit card debt last year.

"From January to September this year, the number of individuals who went bankrupt remained at the same rate of 0.01% out of the total principal cardholders.

“In that period, some 449 people went bankrupt out of the 3.2mil principal cardholders," he said.

Dr Awang Adek said some 31% of credit card usage was settled immediately whereby the debts were paid off without being charged interest.

He added that Bank Negara Malaysia was always monitoring and ensuring that the level of credit card usage was under control by introducing a guideline which offers protection and education to users on proper usage.

On the RM50 tax imposed on each principal credit card, Dr Awang Adek said the number of credit cards had declined from 10.8mil cards at the end of 2009 to the current 8.7mil, following the implementation of the charge.

"This was expected as credit card users returned some of their cards and used the remaining ones more efficiently and without any excess," he said.

Dr Awang Adek also admitted that he shared a similar experience with Azan, who said two credit cards were sent to him by credit card companies even though he did not use or apply for them, and the companies had sent him a bill asking him to pay the RM50 tax.

"I also experienced something similar but I returned the cards and told the companies that I was not interested," he said, adding that Azan could also do the same so that no charge would be imposed.

One disadvantage of a Debit card:

When you check into a hotel, they will normally ask for a Credit card as a deposit/guarantee.

I traveled recently without a Credit card and found they wouldn't accept a Debit card, but asked for a cash deposit instead.
