Bought mine directly from George Cleverley in London. The ready to wear like mine is around £495 and the Anthony Cleverley range is at £1000.

Hello Gents,

Not sure if this is considered for real men.
Am looking for boat shoes / moccasins which looks good for short pants and long chino pants.

Do you guys have any recommendations for well built brands?

Budget will be around RM500
I don't mind paying slightly extra for really well built. I have some phobia on some brand like Hush Puppy where I love its design but it just won't last more than a year.

Thanks gents!

For authentic boat shoe design, you can go for Sperry Topsiders or Sebago. Can be found in Royal Sporting House, Isetan KLCC, Parkson Pavilion etc.

I do own one authentic boatshoe from Sketchers but it seems that they do not produce it in its authentic form anymore. I've worn it for around 5+ years. Kept the leather clean with clear carnauba wax every 3/4 months or so. The patina it gave is quite nice too IMO.

How about Loake 528? Do you have any idea on it? I know it's famous for dress shoes though

Owned a few Sebago Docksides growing up. Seen the Sperry Topsider and Loake and Timberland with my own eyes.

Currently using a boat shoe from Marks & Spencer. Decent price, 365 IIRC. Proper stitchdown construction, functional sole (if you do go sailing).

And the selling point for me, no laces! I hated those rawhide laces, could never get them to stay tied as a kid.

Maybe you can show us examples of shoes that you like?Because each brand has their own stylings.something that's easy to find in Malaysia would be sebago and Sperry.i would rate sebago higher than Sperry in terms of quality.

I tend to stay away from boat shoes and mocs because they have been co-opted by mat rempits as the go-to 'fancy shoe' in my area

you can use black on mid brown shoes but it will create a burnished look. I tend to do it on the toe caps.

I noticed from your pictures, you only wax polish the toecaps and such. So creams on the vamp I assume.
New in this, and the thread is huge. So I'd like to ask, is cream really necessary? As far as my reading tells me, it functions to preserve the color and the conditioning effects are debatable. So assuming I use renovateur on my shoes, would putting cream serve any other purpose other than to preserve color like said? Or am I good to go if I just regularly use renovateur without polishes.

Still shopping for a cream, minus the hassle of shipping from overseas. My priority is more towards protecting the shoes, cosmetics come second at this stage. Very much appreciate your input.

You're right, I usually apply shoe cream first and then hard wax on areas that aren't flexing. The polish not only preserve colour but it hides any scuffs and just refreshes the overall look of the shoe. I do believe it also protects the leather against water penetration.

I much prefer to go through the usual application of conditioner, cream and wax. Not skimping on it tongue.gif I try to polish at least once a week and condition when needed. The renovatuer can strip off wax since it's also a cleaner so I tend to use it sparingly.
I would recommend Saphir which you can get from AFinePairofShoes.co.uk

No it would not but people use cream polish for the patina and covering up any scuffs.

If you are only looking to protect the shoes then get a netural conditioner and wax polish for use on areas that are prone to scuffs (heel and toes). The conditioner they sell in Clark stores is pretty good.Yellow colour

So basically I can get away with just renovateur/conditioners from time to time? Would the lack of cream lead to discoloration in the future though, fading through UV and all that.

That's quite the regiment, but those are the basic steps I believe. Well, going to try to stick to it but excuses excuses excuses. haha
