I have a question, lads. Got a pair of distressed leather shoes. Now they're looking a bit too distressed for my taste, mud and blood and all the good stuff. I'm going to clean it soon, my question is I'm thinking of applying some leather care creams on it. Will it have any effect on the original finish? What will happen to the cracks and creases on it?

QUOTE(dr.evil @ Jun 10 2015, 12:32 PM) I didn't check but maybe around RM100 for a pair ? Sounds like a very decent price. Cheapest I found was at some UK website for roughly rm150+ after shipping.

QUOTE(Kelvw @ Aug 16 2015, 07:23 AM) thought I'd share this on a more appropriate thread my impulsive purchases last few weeks Kinda eyeing one of the PaulSmith shoes as well Kelv, any pictures without filters? Would love to see the leather in their full glory.
And to the person in here who bought my Saphir, how are the results? Do share a bit, hope you're as pleased with them as I was.

QUOTE(heavyduty @ Aug 25 2015, 01:52 PM) Hey!yeah extremely pleased.used them to restore shoes that my dad inherited to me.just some clarks, bally and loakes but the sentimental value is there so want the best for them Yo, glad you're happy with them. I noticed it does soften up the leather a good bit, feels very nice afterwards. Nice hand downs, for life indeed.

QUOTE(Kelvw @ Aug 28 2015, 07:57 AM) Here you go, a few close ups as well. Nice. I noticed a sort of "veining" with the top pairs, looks quite fragile as if the "top layer" might crack at any time. Especially with the middle pair. But nothing some polish won't fix I think? The Barker has a very interesting "heel support" bit, don't see much of those in formal shoes. Makes it look almost athletic.

QUOTE(Kelvw @ Nov 30 2016, 08:42 AM) you can use black on mid brown shoes but it will create a burnished look. I tend to do it on the toe caps. I noticed from your pictures, you only wax polish the toecaps and such. So creams on the vamp I assume. New in this, and the thread is huge. So I'd like to ask, is cream really necessary? As far as my reading tells me, it functions to preserve the color and the conditioning effects are debatable. So assuming I use renovateur on my shoes, would putting cream serve any other purpose other than to preserve color like said? Or am I good to go if I just regularly use renovateur without polishes. Still shopping for a cream, minus the hassle of shipping from overseas. My priority is more towards protecting the shoes, cosmetics come second at this stage. Very much appreciate your input. QUOTE(heavyduty @ Jan 29 2017, 08:45 PM) No it would not but people use cream polish for the patina and covering up any scuffs. If you are only looking to protect the shoes then get a netural conditioner and wax polish for use on areas that are prone to scuffs (heel and toes). The conditioner they sell in Clark stores is pretty good.Yellow colour So basically I can get away with just renovateur/conditioners from time to time? Would the lack of cream lead to discoloration in the future though, fading through UV and all that.

QUOTE(Kelvw @ Jan 29 2017, 09:30 AM) You're right, I usually apply shoe cream first and then hard wax on areas that aren't flexing. The polish not only preserve colour but it hides any scuffs and just refreshes the overall look of the shoe. I do believe it also protects the leather against water penetration. I much prefer to go through the usual application of conditioner, cream and wax. Not skimping on it I try to polish at least once a week and condition when needed. The renovatuer can strip off wax since it's also a cleaner so I tend to use it sparingly. I would recommend Saphir which you can get from AFinePairofShoes.co.uk That's quite the regiment, but those are the basic steps I believe. Well, going to try to stick to it but excuses excuses excuses. haha

QUOTE(heavyduty @ Jan 29 2017, 10:15 PM) Light brushing and condition once in a while Not likely unless you expose your shoes to the sun 12 hours a day for months at a time but I do notice than in lower priced shoes, they tend to have a more 'muted' colour while higher ranges have that natural shine to them so some polish would help bring out some colour in them I would even suggest getting a pair of black polished binder leather shoes, a well constructed one of course in case you need a maintenance free shoe. Still sticking with calf as I tend to crease my shoes badly, a very careless walker here. Most corrected leathers can't stand up to my use and crack after a year or so even with care (not that it's necessary to nourish corrected leathers I believe).

QUOTE(heavyduty @ Jan 29 2017, 11:21 PM) I understand.personally I have only one pair of high shine shoes for those more formal events Other locally available brands that are available are woly and terrago.Around 20 ish for a jar. I've seen the woly "fashion leather cream" on lazada or somewhere. Is that the equivalent of pommadier crème I suppose. The fashion word in the branding makes it sound suspicious somewhat

QUOTE(heavyduty @ Jan 30 2017, 02:49 AM) That's meant more for bags and other soft leather goods because it has silicone in it (waterproofing). The cream polish would be in the glass jars and conditioner is called leather balm, big white bottle I was under the impression the balm is heavier, more towards a renovateur type lotion. Damn, these product naming are really confusing.

QUOTE(heavyduty @ Jan 31 2017, 02:44 PM) It's good for covering up scratches and restoring colour to thin corrected grain leather and 'faux leather' that fashion brands like to use.the dye in that thing is pretty strong Think I'll go with niakulah and avoid the stuff. Corrected grain sounds like a dirty word in these circles haha.
