Med scholarships overseas are running dry since the last one to two years since Perdana n Numed came onto the scene as most, if not all the students are gomen sponsored. The issue of scholarships holders defaulting is due to the poor enforcement.

Questionable political leadership or bloated civil service ....... is the cause of poor enforcement ?? vmad.gif

When you get "cows", you feel bad taking action against these "poor" ppl. I don't see a likelihood of overseas med scholarships this year as Ipts scholarships are also restricted to just 3, all Glc-owned.

Had a chat with a senior lecturer @ Monash Sunway just now.

The amount of students per intake is apparently only 130 now.

I dont think its lack of students, rather some space for last minute smarties n the waiting list. Wish you a good time in PD.

A fren was informed that his application to a UK university for medic was put on hold (presumably waiting list). What are the chances of securing a place. Is there a need to pay the one semester fees over here if the dateline for acceptance here is at the end of the month?

Either you save that Proton Saga or you got to let it go!

cckkpr, what do you think of this? This is from the Foundation Programme (FP) website:

"Fulfilment of the eligibility criteria gives applicants the right to go through the national Foundation Programme application process. It does not guarantee appointment to a foundation training place."

So there are no guarantees of internships in the UK as well, seeing that the FP was oversubscribed last year, and this year, and they expect similar trend to continue next few years.

Previously the number of domestic students was always less than the number of intern positions, international students made up the difference, so no worries. Now this year, and in following year, the number of domestic students equals the number of intern positions...which leaves about 350 international students fighting for a few positions among the bottom ranked domestic and top ranked international students

quoted from my 5th year senior when I was inquiring about the research projects available. Apparently I have to pay another year of full fees even though it's research =.= but yes, that's what he told me recently about the situation of the internship spots.

Will the research year enable you to graduate with honors?

So "equal opportunity" does not come into play in Oz, as far as internships are concerned. 350 intl students fighting for a few spots does seem bleak.

Was talking to a few friends during orientation. All are unaware of the limited internship opportunities, thinking that they can just work in Melbourne after finishing their degree here.

I was like. urhmmm yeah. Didnt want to break their fragile little bubbles biggrin.gif

equal opportunities assumes equals.....

as foreigners, international students are NOT equal to local citizens and pr's (NO country does that in the world).......therefore, it is fallacious to use the 'equal opportunity' argument here......

Was reading NHS' foundation Programme website, and they actually state "equal opportunity" employment policy, as long as one is eligible to apply for the Programme.

ignorance is bliss.....

but 5 years is a long time away, and it is possible political efforts by medical students unions, ama, and other vested bodies may prompt the fed and state governments to increase housemanship places.....there were some regional newspapers articles addressing this issue, and saying other countries, notably singapore and nz are stealing aussie trained doctors, and oz needs to do something about this.....

the special category of monash msia graduates needs to be re-evaluated, as per some commentaries.....the current practice is group them together with other international students who studied on shore.....

there were arguments to put onshore students ahead of monash msia graduates, which some consider same as img.......

time will tell.....
