wow, tough one, =P probably sg if thats the case, not sure if i'm eligible for NZ places or not too. But generally a lot of the international students (that i know of) got offered a place in their 5th year. so which is good to hear.
well we're doing more and more clin stuff since year 2. don't think you can do much in year 1 since it's the basics? and things aren't really coming tgt at that stage for me. We do like case presentation in groups, which is really fun =)
*
The only reason this year's graduating batch got offers was because many of their local/interstate students got to go to Victoria and such which is more disirable (you should know who got the prestiguous RMH) and a few other tutors who got rural Vic. I haven't heard anyone that got SA or WA though.

Also to add about IMU's two hour-lecture system. I reckon it gives a lot of free time to "self-study". Reading through a couple of questions from IMU, it places an emphasis on rote learning which I think is a bad call where exams are about memorizing; students back home are not encouraged to challange the views of lecturers, lacking a discussion where both parties might gain some. It is more of a "you give; I receive" method. I would say not all lecturers does that though, some are rather interative and fun.

i presume you are also in utas.....

utas trains more doctors than is needed within tasmania, and graduates from utas have always been seeking employment in mostly vic, sometimes further afield as well.....

just as many from vic who could not enter melb or monash will accepts offers in utas....

this situation exists long before the issue about housemanship places arise.......
*
Yup. And with the statewide budget cuts (which includes healthcare?!?!?!?!) It's a pain. Hope by the time I graduate, things would turn out better.

i think you will be onelove's batchmate then.....

i am quite sure the houseman job situation will be sorted out....at worst, just apply for regional hospitals.....even monash msia grads are getting offers in regional vic...... smile.gif

how many international students do utas take a year? what's their total intake nowadays?
*
You're right, actually we 'met' here before reaching Tas. Our year was about 15-20. So I assume it's about there. Not to be ungrateful to my home country, but I am overseas for a reason, to learn. It would be way better if I could secure an internship here =). Just hope for the best by then. Right now, concentrate in facing the darned exams.

From what I have read, there are a few people who got conditional offers for UTAS '16. If anyone needs help (information etc.) I'm sure onelove as well as I would be happy to explain a little further. Please pardon that there might be late replies though, exams.

For me, I am biased, I chose Australia due to the distance and due to the fact that both my sisters graduated here and I've heard lovely stories from them. Fact wise, consider the options of:-

1) Working after graduation - the prospect of working overseas vs. home which includes recognizing of the cert
2) Communication - Family, relationships, etc. -> Having a family member or friend nearby does help if you are in need.
3) Weather - Not everyone can stand extreme weather
4) Environment - A good environment is essential for happiness.

Of course there are others which I might not have thought about.

i will use this as basis for reply.....

1. you are guaranteed fy1 and 2 in uk, but not in oz......

2. with current communication media, where you are doesn't make much difference.....however, the time difference may make some impact......and actual travelling time is almost doubled for uk.....

3. oz weather trumps uk by a long way.....

4. quality of life is generally better in oz......

finally, the weather......uk is cold and damp all the time.....even in summer......eg, this year's summer is cold, and the temperature is the same as brisbane's winter!!.....

i normally see it this way, as far as doing medicine is concerned.....if you want good education, and a good chance for post graduate training, but have no intention of staying back, then uk is a good choice......

if you want a good education, and a chance to migrate to a better quality of life, and accept that post graduate training is difficult, and don't mind being a gp, then oz is the place......
*
For number 2. I was talking more of a contact in person. Family members that live nearby etc. Besides, time zone differences even with the current communication media is a pain as well!

why is that so? They aren't a good choice anymore?
*
They have been facing that for a couple of years now due to IMU giving out their conditional offers and pinning down students by asking to pay the first semester's fees first.

If you want free education in Malaysia for medicine, it's stiff competition. Like limeuu said, the safer way is to secure a spot for Malaysian Matriculation Program (Matriks) and score there (heard it was easy) then apply for medicine. Or STPM and get 4.0 and pray. Or apply for JPA scholarship with really good SPM results.

Other than that, consider options such as IMU (Local) or other universities such as Mahsa, Monash Malaysia and etc. There is just too many Medical IPTS available at home.

Do anyone know whether sunway Monash will make any offer for places in medic to applicants who are waiting for their A levels results to be released in January 2012 for February 2012 intake? Or they are put on waiting list pending results confirmation.
*
I reckon they'll put them in for CONDITIONAL OFFER. Which means they give you a set requirement eg: AAB, if requirements are met, they accept him/her.

Has gone for interview n informed that decision will be made upon presentation of a levels results. Will be quite late as results only out late January
*
That's interesting. I always thought they did conditional offers using trial results and AS results, then offers unconditional offer when your results meet their requirements. Hmm.

Anybody bought books from the shop opposite UMMC before? From the sign board it says selling medical devices and books. Seems like not very popular.
*
I did. It's catered for UM Medstudents, but still a decent range of books.

For me,

Anatomy (Atlas): I use both Gray's and Netters (Gilroy when in library)
Anatomy (Text) : I have a Gray's but I seldom touch it.
Histology (Text and Atlas) : Ross and Pawlina
Pathology : Robbin's (papa patho)
Physiology : Costanzo, Guyton, Marieb, Cardio- Lilly, Renal - Vanders
Clinical skills : Talley and O'connor
Davidsons/ Kumar & Clark

But I have to say something, I seldom use books unless required(Diagrams, diagrams and diagrams or when the lecture notes do not make sense (to me at least)). Honest. At least for me it is, gaining information through lectures (which highlights the most important things we should know) is the best way to learn.

I found out through onelove that a few of medlets are heading to UTAS. If you guys are going for the IDP pre-departure briefing, I'll be there.

Thanks for the info. Asked Mabecs and they said Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Good.

I did it in Putrajaya (travelled there myself), was ready with all the forms and whatnot. Got it done in 2 hours or less.
