to compete against iphone, a HP must have a unified platform OS like winmo or symbian or android, without it theres limited software to function leading to downfall
Malaysian are spoilt by Garmin on symbian and winmo, due to this if the only GPS is a propietary programme running on flash OS then it not gonna succeed. Hell, i even doubt abt the gps maps for Malaysia.
On Saturday the Samsung shop in Gardens had 1 unit available for RM2100! Salesguy told me that they only received 3 units on Friday.
dont get fool buying from the gardens etc. i just bought samsung jet at price RM1780..at klang..
talkin about the iphone and samsung jet.. iphone have the advantage on the SOFTWARE, BUT CERTAINLY NOT HARDWARE.. u've heard about iphone 3gs overheat right..hehe
on samsung, its hardware wise brand hp..certainly iphone cannot compete with samsung when it comes to hardware.. samsung now is developing on the software aspect..iphone still one of the best right now when it comes to software..
and we cannot totally compare samsung jet(non-smartphone) & iphone(smartphone)..

Pros:
1) Screen Display : ~ 3.1 inch AMOLED touchscreen, 16M colours, 480x800 resolution ~ the best resolution u can find in hp, no other better resolution than this in hp ~ AMOLED display is the finest display u can see, less energy used and produce very bright colour and far better than TFT display, also when i compare it to my LCD monitor, it produce better & brighter display, believe me.. ~ the screen is big enough and really satisfied ~ Using R-Resistive touchscreen technology : R-Resistive screen combine the technology of capacitive and resistive touchscreen, very reponsive and also u're not limited on only using finger, u also can use this hp while wearing gloves, using stylus and also using your nails..very responsive..while 4 ur information, capacitive touchscreen only limited to use with your finger..
2) Processor 800MHz : ~ 1st time in my life using handphone, there is no lagging at all, it works smoothly, thanks to the super-fast processor.. ~ 800Mhz Processor is one of the fastest cpu in hp, better than iphone 3GS(600Mhz) and any nokia hp, thats why it is really fast.. ~ also it comes with transition effect, adding livelier experience using this hp, here's short video showing the fast cpu performace and transition effect of samsung jet :

CONS :
1) it is not a smartphone, so u cant add any new application, only Samsung can add new application thru firmware update, also..sources from Singapore Mobile said that in the near future, samsung will allow adding new software in this samsung jet, not confirm yet 2) battery :1080 mAH, means that an extensive use of this phone make the battery last for only 1 day..normal use, the battery can last >2days 3) as i said before, widget cannot be add more than 2, but it'll be update by firmware [update:already fix by firmware] 4) Asia model of Samsung Jet S8003 dont have pre-install GPS Navigation, only Europe model have the GPS Pre-installed 5) No search function for music player 6) Message limited to 500 storage

but u can use google map and it is installed..
any java program are compatible to use with this hp.. i've installed SNAPTU..social media java program..

Bro, how is jet for reading stuff - like websites or html/ pdf ebooks? Do the words seem too small for a lot of text reading?
Samsung JET support Power Point, Word, PDF..only read but not editing.. Website, it use the Dolfin browser, the words not small and easy to read.. it have ONE FINGER ZOOM function.. so u can maximize the internet browser, pdf, word, picture with ease..

What is smarter than smartphone means in Samsung JET?? :
1) Samsung JET have 800MHz processor : comparing to all popular SMARTPHONE like iPhone 3GS(600MHz), HTC Touch HD(528MHz). HTC Touch Pro2 (528MHz), SE Xperia (5528MHz), Samsung Omnia(624MHz) - fast processor is a very significant features in mobile phones nowadays, fast phone processing, better experience etc.
2) Samsung JET have Exchange ActiveSync : this is the 1st non-smart phone that have this function. Samsung integrate it seamlessly with its TouchWiz UI.
3) AMOLED screen + 16 mil colours + 3.1 inch + 480x800 resolution: theres no combination of display better than this & u cant find this combination of display on any smartphones. Iphone, Blackberry & HTC smartphone : TFT display, Windows Mobile : only produce 65k colours.
4) MULITASKING : this is one of the great features of Samsung JET. Smartphones like IPhone dont provide multitasking function. Everyone wants multitasking function in their hp right. Great features.
5) Dolfin Internet Browser + One finger zoom function : GSMArena review this function and Dolfin browser as an almost perfect. the reason why Jet is not called a smartphone not because of features, but simply because it doesn't rely on a PC-like OS (WinMo vs Windows)
there's good n bad of this approach (using PC-like OS):-
bad: mobile phone maker will be limited to mobile OS architecture like WinMo. like HTC, they have to add-on their own OS layer on top of WinMo just to have extra features/functions (i call it hybrid-WinMo )
good: mobile apps and support would be easily supported across all manufacurers. Ur WinMo-based apps can run on HTC's or Samsung's or other; as long as they use WinMo.
similar to proprietary OS (like Samsung's ToucWiz); u get extra creative apps/features running. But the down side is there's not much app or support available. you're basically depends on Samsung to come out with the app or wait for Samsung to release a SDK for 3rd party developers to develop apps.
i mean, just because of those reasons Jet was out of the smartphone category?

ya..atm, smartphone categories only goes for symbian, iphone, blackberry, etc..
Samsung OS, LG a newly develop OS, so it'll take time to develop a stable OS..
in 2 or 3 years there'll be more OS and i'm sure Samsung Touchwiz OS will be one of it...
Samsung will be launching their own Samsung Application Store thi year, and info from Samsung Malaysia, there'll will be application store also for Samsung phone that use Touchwiz UI..
these are all the process to make TouchWiz as the smartphone platform OS in the near future..

yup, since internal memory 2GB is too small, you should use external memory, Samsung Jet can support until 16GB memory..
audio quality on earphone is good, it have the optional 5.1 sound effect function, so it'll give surround sound..
Media function of Samsung Jet is very good, both audio & video..

this firmware is available in samsung web portal or you flashed the firmware by yourself?

no, its europe firmware..contain no asian language..i'm using english so theres no problem for me to update it..
if u need chinese language, have to wait for asian firmware..not available yet..

Have u try to type sms while u r driving? Is it difficult to type a sms..?
while driving? hehe..never try yet.. for me, typing sms in portrait / landscape(QWERTY keyboard) mode is very easy.. the space for every number/alphabet for sms is very big..so u can msg at ease..
when typing there is tactile feedback, mske it like u press a button while typing.. IMO really easy to type msg..

Yup, Route66 GPS have Malaysia map, but sadly when i want to upgrade to drive to and walk to function, for Malaysia it's not yet available..

oww, but please check wether they will give u the original warranty card from Samsung Electronics and also all the accessories.. if all included, that's a good price..
what do u mean by not sensitive? i can say there are large improvements when u flash to the latest europe firmware..
cons: there's no chinese, bahasa melayu language for europe firmware, one of the widget is in russian language anyway i didnt really use that widget(all other widgets in english)
its ok if u wanna wait for asian firmware, the phone still great but have some minor bugs..

price is RM1,700. no other xtras. Full package/accessories.
my actual price is RM1,800 (inclusive of merchant interest) because i pay via credit card + 12mth 0% installment.
Not sure if other shops do that, but i chose this shop cuz of 0% installment service

iPhone is just a simply overpriced phone with much marketing hype created by Apple.

someone discussing at gsmarena told there's a way to enable gps navigation on S8003.. mine already update to S8000 so cannot try it, anyone with S8003 wanna enabled Navigation Software, try this :
1- press *#6984125*# well open admin screen
2- go to Internals and then enter master key *#9072641*#
3- go to LbsApp and then go to Navigation and if it is disable then enable it
the phone will restart and its done.. then the navigation icon appears in the menu..
or if its not appear in the menu icon, please open settings>>phone settings >>navigation>> TURN ON
*try at ur own risk..its work for users in gsmarena discussion board

the "Drive to" and "Walk to" function doesn't seem to work for Malaysia's map. Everytime I select a POI or address and then select "Drive to", it will say "Activation Required" to which the Route66 Store is accessed but there is nothing to purchase.

Both are great. They are goods and bads in both of the phone. U wan stylish and more smartphone capability, go for iPhone. Better multimedia capability, go for Jet.

actually any service provider can add nav software in JET bcos it has built in GPS..maxis, celcom or digi dont have any nav software(from what i know), but for example, 02 UK provide their own navigation software for JET*

nope, never flash. Its still S8003. I just enabled it from admin mode.

unfortunately no. You would at least expect a phone at that price to have a basic function such as search but no........ I don't know what Samsung is thinking, they should at least incorporate the search feature like the one used for searching contacts into the music player. (searching for contacts can be done by the side bar - searching by Alphabets or even search a particular contact by inputting the name in)

not sure bout the micro sd class 6, but the sound quality is superb, just a nice mix of bass and treble.
You can also choose from different equalizer settings to get higher bass or treble.

haha, I don't think so man. It could probably be introduced in later models but no upgrade for now.
Cause theoretically it can run on WinMo since Omnia II also runs on WinMo right? I'm still too new in this. I might be wrong.
But I really believe someone said it can be upgraded to winmo ahaha.
Yes theoretically it can but I don't think Samsung will go through much trouble to work on that. Because after all, they are trying to sell their Omnia 2 as well. If Jet has WinMo, it would make it similar to Omnia2 in every aspect except for the slight size difference and the screen view.

hmm..hope samsung will fixed at least half of the problems here in new firmware. Im still considering between Jet and ARena where both have almost similiar functions at almost same price.

actually, each phones got its drawbacks, just a matter of the overall package only. like the Jet, it was overall very nice,just some minor drawbacks here n there.

SMS threading is messenger-like chatting, means that the sms are categorized according to contact. if you select a contact, you can see all the messages between you and the person as opposed to the normal way of just being able to see incoming messages and sent messages in a separate screen.
I wouldn't say Nokia 5800 is better. Jet is better in these aspects:
1. Camera (Very clear pictures) 2. Music player (the music produced is just awesome when listening using earphones) 3. The screen. (The screen is just superb and clear) 4. Processing speed. (the Jet has a 800mhz processor and carries out tasks in a breeze. Not much lag)
and it's freaky thin too (compared to normal bar phones, even thinner than my Nokia 5320 XM)

i don't usually change mobile phones unless i have to.
Jet *gave* me a reason to do so.
When i thought of buying Jet, iPhone 3GS was just launched. I hate the plans, and the only way to get one is via the Hotlink plan @ RM2,490 per unit.
i almost shelled out the money to get one, but held off. I've looked at Samsung Jet few days earlier. It's price was around RM1,700-1,800; still much lower than iPhone (and also difficult to get one with installment payment).
Jet has the following *practical* advantange over iPhone:-
1) Size (dimension) is great. Palm-friendlier than iPhone whcih is too wide for my liking (and put in my jeans too). 2) AMOLED screen is top notch. iPhone looses this. Jet has this *wow* factor. 3) Thickness (thinness) is equivalent to iPhone's (rough estimate lah). 4) USB charging ports & Windows/PC data connection.
Software wise, it's ok though. of course JEt doesn't have those crazy apps from iPhone, but Jet is still functional and usable. I uses more 3G Internet with Jet, therefore standalone apps are not my priority.
i have been following forums of lg arena and jet,and i guess u guys have seen and heard all their highlights. so i will try to summarise their flaws that i remember form these 2 phones. 1.WALLPAPER LG arena does not able to change the home screen wallpaper although it has a high reso screen(such a waste) 2.MUSIC PLAYER LG arena does not remember the last track play...i.e. it will start from the 1st track when u quit music player. LG arena load music files slow when u have load of music file Samsung jet cannot search music file 3.BROWSER LG arena pinching zooming is very slow compare to jet's one fingered zoom LG browser's rendering speed is very slow certain firmware in LG arena cannot watch youtube video via wifi 4.SMS Jet don't have sms threading(forumers said that LG has it,but never seen any video showing it) 5.VIDEO PLAYER LG arena only can play 720X480 in mp4 and 3gp where as jet can support most of the video format.
other than stated above,so far both of them don't have gps navigation that does not need internet connection and both photo browsing is slow. The price of LG is cheaper and has built in 8gb whereas jet is about rm100 more expensive and with only 2gb.

i didnt find any lag when surfing web EXCEPT when surfing Youtube..
yup bro, no application, but java application that perfectly functioning with jet is SNAPTU and MORANGE.. EBUDDY is a bit slow..

RM1599? Are u buying AP or original? BTW, Jet doesnt have that massive RAM. We dont know the exact amount of ram, but it doesnt have 512MB for sure.

i don't usually change mobile phones unless i have to.
Jet *gave* me a reason to do so.
When i thought of buying Jet, iPhone 3GS was just launched. I hate the plans, and the only way to get one is via the Hotlink plan @ RM2,490 per unit.
i almost shelled out the money to get one, but held off. I've looked at Samsung Jet few days earlier. It's price was around RM1,700-1,800; still much lower than iPhone (and also difficult to get one with installment payment).
Jet has the following *practical* advantange over iPhone:-
1) Size (dimension) is great. Palm-friendlier than iPhone whcih is too wide for my liking (and put in my jeans too). 2) AMOLED screen is top notch. iPhone looses this. Jet has this *wow* factor. 3) Thickness (thinness) is equivalent to iPhone's (rough estimate lah). 4) USB charging ports & Windows/PC data connection.
Software wise, it's ok though. of course JEt doesn't have those crazy apps from iPhone, but Jet is still functional and usable. I uses more 3G Internet with Jet, therefore standalone apps are not my priority.

actually, samsung's sdk is for their own TouchWiz. This means software developed for TouchWiz will work regardless of OS (WinMo, Symbian, proprietary OS).

For iPhone's QWERTY's keyboard, you can drag your finger on a letter. But with Jet you can't do so. But then, its easier to type the conventional way in Jet.
As for the keypad, Jet is easier to use. You just need to get used to the flat surface of the screen cause you can't differentiate the keys just by touching. But its easy to press.
For Jet, you must tap on the key itself. For iPhone, you just tap anywhere on the keyboard and you drag your finger to the character you want to type in.
the browser really disappointed, hotmail.com also can't goin, saying not support javascript or script are being blocked.
i'm not having any problem login into hotmail.com..all website works fine..
youtube a bit slow..
make sure you enable all the settings available..

Samsung Phone (esp JET): - surely the best hardware phone and for me the best design phone - their software are not the best, but it satisfy me. I'm satisfy on its user friendliness, media function, stylish look - functionality, very satisfying me as new user of Samsung phone
Iphone : - for me the advantages is only on their mass application available - if ur looking for a good hardware phone, certainly dont choose apple products; iphone. You already heard many news about exploding ipod, overheating, discoloration iphone right?? hehe.. - i can say the best software phone is Iphone but only on the application aspect, not on the general phone function. Iphone general phone function is really2 sucks, its sound, camera, call etc.
Nokia : - for me the best on its user-friendliness - lagginess, nokia is the 1st - hardware : i dont really know about nokia hardware - software-wise : symbian is a well developed OS
On top of all these, i've bought samsung jet becos of its stylish look, hardware-wise, functionality and good media function.

yup, the GPS is weird.. I would buy it if the GPS navigation is available here.. I played around with at a local hp shop, its really nice.. Hope samsung can do something about this. Fingers crossed

Jet yg i beli tu pun di brand kan oleh Maxis (dlm f/w pulak tu!)

if u read some thread in darkforestgroup forum that cybpsych said before.. u can see that flashing Samsung JET is a very2 easy, the simplest i think when compare to other samsung phone..

hmm thinking to get a pda or pda-like phone.. but ive no experience on this.. but kinda interested with jet.. partly bcoz im loyal samsung user lol (used 3 samsung phone edi)

@danni_boy i'm not yet buy the license since i'm not in the need to use gps. but if i really need it for traveling someplace i'm not familiar with, i would definitely buy 'em. anyway, the fees are 1.79EUR for 1 day, 9.99EUR for 1 month and 49.99EUR for 12 months.
@dauf87 yes, if u surf through Route66 Sync, the feature were not available. i can confirm that. but remember i emailed their support center and they asked for my Jet IMEI. i dunno why and somehow, that feature suddenly appear u. in fact, i already downloaded the features using Route66 in Jet (not through PC Route66 Sync), but it is locked and cannot be used since i did not pay yet.

Played around with the Jet yesterday. The appearance is really nice Thumbs up for that. But I noticed that the phone is a bit lag especially when scrolling the widget tray and drag-dropping the widgets. Will flashing the new firmware rectify these problems?
I just bought a Samsung Jet from Sungei Wang Plaza and on my second day of purchase the phone hangs.Everyday it hangs and turns off by itself around 3-8 times a day.Sent to service centre and waited 1 hour 30 mins to do a service upgrade and yet still prob persist.If i were to sent to factory for repairs and still the problem persist later,am I able to claim a new set??Its killing me to have spend so much money and getting hang up on me so many times.

i think the problem is on the software...what about u try to flash your phone to another firmware??
i think now can get from kuantan rm1800 free 1 gb memory card warranty by fmg 18month...this brand very impressive but the price also luxury anyway it's a slim and nice phone.Got any user here ?

1) All latest firmware is from europe..so you will only loose T9 Bahasa Malaysia, all asian language except Korean language.. games, application remains the same becos malaysia samsung phone come with stock app, games from samsung..in addition, the navigation software will be available(but for malaysia, till now the gps software not so useful)

How on earth this phone is better than smartphone then?
actually, there are 3rd party software developer. currently the samsung appstore support omnia only. according to news, other models including Jet will be covered within December 2009.

select samsung pc studio at your phone so NPS can detect it..but right now NPS have some problem detecting JET..NPS software is still in early stage..
better you use MASS STORAGE option to transfer files..easier..you have to transfer file manually into the folder you want..

I read the manual and it says if we transfer using NPS it would convert the files to supported format but i cant use NPS as it would not detect my phone. what can i do? i would like to watch my downloaded videos

avi is not the problem here..JET can play avi files..check your video frame width and height..is it 720x480..if its bigger thats the problem..should convert it to smaller frame width and height..

u go to lowyat. the floor that sells handphone wan. Once u naik the escalator, there is a samsung retailer infront of u. Dont go to that shop. Instead u turn to your right. walk walk walk n turn left and u should see another samsung retailer. but this shop is smaller lo. But selling for RM1600 only.

hm..check for the warranty, thats the most important one..should say it from samsung electronics warranty, not from the shop.. then i think, check the battery and the back of ur phone..ensure theres written FMG or Brightstar.. and also confirm that you will be given all the typical samsung accessories for ur JET..
after you got it..check for:
1) GPS: some user couldnt get it working..so check ur gps signal thru google maps or by the geo-tagging feature(camera).. *resetting ur phone should fix it if ur gps not working 2) Install NPS on ur pc, try connecting ur phone..some users also couldnt get the NPS functioning with their phone..its important actually to get ur NPS working with your phone so u can backup all your contacts, task, etc. Alternatively, transferring audio, video files can be done with the mass storage option.. *install the latest NPS software should fix the problem..sometimes the software cd is not the latest one.. 3) Organize ur settings, probably the priority is to configure your network, security and phone settings
Java programs, recommend to install SNAPTU & MORANGE(both social networking apps.) and works perfectly with JET..

Hey just wondering, is the touch screen responsive? I've seen a few reviews on youtube and realized that sometimes they have to tap/ scroll more than once to select/ scroll the screen.
also, can we upload pictures to the internet using the phone?? for eg. take a pic and update my blog by posting the pictures.
interesting comments and reviews.. am considering the JET too, but one thing to ask..
how is the battery life? i'm curious~ my first 3G phone is really bad at battery life :\
usually i make on average 6-7 calls in a day and SMS quite a lot and ocassionaly use the web when i'm away from my comp. i don't play music from my hp..
if u don't use 3G at all, turn it off and use GSM instead. it saves a lot of battery.
in my case, i uses 3G broadband for internet/twitter/etc. avg calls, lots of sms .... batt is 1day+.
plus thing is you can use the usb cable to charge! so, if batt is low, plug ur cable to laptop/desktop for instant recharge.
Also, DONT WAIT for it to fully charge it (via usb cable) cuz it doesn't have mechanism to STOP CHARGING once batt is full.
only charge via usb if batt is really low. once at an acceptable capacity, plug it off. get the official charger to fully charge the unit (it's safer).
if u don't use 3G at all, turn it off and use GSM instead. it saves a lot of battery.

plus thing is you can use the usb cable to charge! so, if batt is low, plug ur cable to laptop/desktop for instant recharge.
Also, DONT WAIT for it to fully charge it (via usb cable) cuz it doesn't have mechanism to STOP CHARGING once batt is full.
only charge via usb if batt is really low. once at an acceptable capacity, plug it off. get the official charger to fully charge the unit (it's safer).

usually how long it takes to fully charge the bat via charger? the ori charger CAN stop charging the phone right?
after putting on the screen protector, the touch screen is less sensitive especially for scrolling the icons. am i correct?
Why can't phone makers put in at least a 1500 miH battery in their phones as a rule. Even the E71 comes with a 1500 miH battery. Gives longer user time.

I tried to On the phone lock for Jet, bt it require me to enter a 4-8 digit password. Before this i have not set any password. So i would like to know the default password.

so any of you have other problems with the Jet? the screen and the cover is made of plastic izzit.. u think it's durable or not? at least for 4-5 drops in a span of a year or two.. hehe

Happen to bump in here so thought I may ask around. I recently got a samsungjetS8003 outright from a singapore mobile shop (with warranty) as my old phone refused to work for a while. Now that it has resumes its job so I am planning to release this jet RM 1500 with all the equipments that came together.
Condition of the phone? A lady user here so you may expect it to be as brand new as it can be

better u explore everything about Samsung JET before buyin it..JET only support JAVA apps. Theres java mini opera but dont think theres any safari..

Such a turn off... Am setting my sights on to Omnia 2 now...
yea.. a turn off! but i see that coming. i knew phones that aren't on Symbian or WM won't have much apps.. but for average person who's used to SE/LG/simple Nokia phones will appreciate the beauty of the device.. it is a fast touchscreen phone, beats the speed of Omnia for some reason. had it for over a week now- never lags on me, never had major glitch. for an average user, this phone is the best BASIC touchscreen phone with SPECS similar to a smartphone ie. 3G, 5MP camera, Wifi, bluetooth. basic stuff, but a bit pricey for now..
pls dont expect much on Samsung Jet~ it's not a smartphone afterall..
i predict the price of the Jet will go slightly cheaper at a faster rate compared to the other Samsungs run on Symbian/WM. but the tech specs are still considered as upper mid-range, so maybe the price won't go below rm1000 for at least til Q1 2010. just my opinion..
So if anybody is getting one, you can hold a bit for the price to drop, but i can assure you won't regret getting one. if you can afford it now, just get it if you need a new phone. don't expect you can install apps like you can on a Symbian/WM phone~ if u're too lazy to explore the world of Symbian/WM phones, the Jet is the one for u.. hehehe. i'm thinking that the Jet is most suitable for the ladies bcos of its slim figure and fits perfectly in my hands when i'm using it..
again, since you can run JAVA apps on the Jet, you can technically install anything JAVA-based on it. there are many JAVA apps out there~

i think in previous discussion here, its already clear that for samsung touchwiz OS, the SDK is only for WIDGET..not full application for TouchWiz..
i've tested the Jet, so far i only experience 1-2 buttons that are really stubborn.. i've to pin point with a stylus for it to respond. i think this can be fixed with a software upgrade. otherwise, 'touching' the Jet is no problem at all.
internet slow is not the phone's fault, rather something to do with the service provider. i have tested the Jet with my wi-fi at home, pages load quite fast. youtube loads okay, but takes a while for the video to play.
sometimes while browsing u got to zoom in (press anywhere for 1-2 secs > scroll up) so that u can really 'click' on the links (by touching with ur finger). if u don't zoom in, sometimes there's no respond.. maybe because the finger is too big, so the phone thought u're clicking elsewhere.. heheh. the 'touch' interface of the Jet relies on the pressure of your finger rather than heat. if the Jet is the only means for u to browse the web, it is better to use a stylus..

holla it actually using A-GPS where it uses yer wifi\gprs\wap to assist the gps to acquire the satellite info if you dont have any of those ie prepaid or not in range of your wifi you can still get a lock but a bit slower try activating r66 in an open space (not in your house\office\some car roof blocks the signal) press the middle button to open task manager select the front screen then go to menu->setting->phone setting->gps setiing-gps position->satellite position you should see info on the phone getting a lock to the satellite you need >5 satellite lock on to actually get a lock on your position wolla i like r66 but i need a free turn by turn gps software any ideas?? plz dont recommend WeTravel it suckz big time, garmin&mapking;not compatible thanksss

it is just a reflector,it depends which angle are you looking at,you will see those red stripes.

bought in in lowyat plaza and it includes phone,batt,earphone,handsfree,cd,pouch,charger,usb cable. i tried amaze map is is quite good,but not stable and difficult to get gps signal.Maybe because i am using samsung eternity version(no official samsung jet version for amaze gps),which might not so compatible.

actually there are Malaysian map for route66 software. the gps is totally working. but for voice navigation u need to pay. maps are free. please read previous posts.
this thread was really active when the phone come on from for the market end user, around June 2009.

yeah, forgot about that......but anyway......is there a search function in the music player? Kinda difficult to find songs especially when you have 4GB worth of MP3 in the memory and cant search for the songs you want but to scroll and scroll and scroll.............and scroll

i downloaded sonic unleashed and when i play it says game nt supported in portrait mode turn your handset to landscape view. do u mean the new message pop-up on the main screen?there are 2 buttons,view or exit.if u wanna view,just tap the view button,dun press long just tap it quick.if u press,the whole pop up is gonna move like when u try to move ur widget.Hope this helps.

Major release Firmware XPII1 / XEII2 Everything that is new at a glance
Announced As in [Information of the upcoming Main FW Release] Samsung has improved in the course of the last update of the S8000 some features of the jet, corrected and expanded. New features have been added.
With the appearance of the analog to XPII1 and practically newer version XEII2 the innovations are now also the wide range of user-Jets available.
Below is a detailed list of what you expect with the new FW, you should if you have not installed these:
1. Customize Menu
With this new feature, it is possible to rearrange the main menu according to their own desires. To do this, tap on the new icon at the top right corner of the menu and can then either in portrait or landscape mode to move the icons of the programs and arrange free. After you finished you type store and ensures the new settings.
If you want to reset the default layout on one chooses reset. The Quermodus is only available for the ordering of the symbols.
2. New Media Browser
The new media browser replaces the old, lame photo browser, which has deeply angered and disappointed many users. That's over now. The MB presented briskly and modern, offering a new attractive Cover Flow design that according to the filters you can use to organize the media such as photos and videos, adapts.
One can also tag images and then combine images into groups. With an ever operated on the right timeline, collections can quickly browse. The MB is just fun and invites you to browse.
3. New MP3 Player
The MP3 player has undergone a facelift and now presents itself in a new design which is the cover art clearly stands in the foreground. By tapping the cover appear to additional controls. The volume can be regulated via the side buttons.
In the player are user Quermodus previous firmwares the new design of the cover flow, but especially the huge speed boost to notice and learn to love.
Cover, as it is now flowing smoothly, almost too quickly across the screen. Additional controls are found not only pause / play does not, what needs to get over, however.
4. New Widgets
Anyone who has tried to download new widgets, was often met with a message "Maximum number of" face. Neither could delete old or install new widgets. Frustration was announced.
Samsung has been working on the widget management and removes the annoying limit. Without problems can reload now many widgets.
Moreover, the new firmware with some interesting and useful widgets is provided: Connected Home, Photo-Contacts, and numerous widgets known online communities like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter are included.
5. Browse by Dolfin
The Dolfin browser is now a little more nimble on the road and has undergone some design changes. Thus, the Back button moved to full-screen button which simplifies the operation.
In full screen is now displayed when loading a progress indicator, which eases the wait. One-Touch and options are now better highlighted with orange color.
The favorites are unoccupied and can be added as desired.
6. Stream Connected Home
Users will notice the new menu item "Connected Home" when they open the new menu for the first time. Rightly, many ask themselves, what is for now is hidden behind it. In CH the user opens up versatile opportunities to share the information contained on the mobile media with devices from other users.
Some of the concept of DLNA is in this context to say something. DLNA is an amalgamation of a number of well-known electronics companies, which will enable media between different devices such as mobile phones, TVs, recorders, etc. to share and stream.
CH, therefore, represents the DLNA client of the jet, which can be used as streaming video on the jet to a compatible TV. Or you can stream his music library as an audio stream from the jet to a DLNA-compliant facility. Various combinations are possible. The jet will then function as so-called digital media server (DMS). The structure of a compound similar to the Wi-Fi and BT connectivity and is easy and done quickly.

7. Notable
Besides the above mentioned new main features can be found here and there, small improvements to a noticeable only gradually.
Worth mentioning the ability of the e-mail clients display HTML content directly in Quermodus you to new menu items (eg touch panel) into submenus, and new icons, much improved audio quality (AAC) in the recorded video, the possibility of JAVA applications directly from memory card to be able to install (refers to XEII2) and a freshened design in the Media menu.
8. Evaluation and Conclusion
As you can see, Samsung has done Something that the jet can meet the high expectations set. Without question, some improvements could be made.
Some will grumble and turn away, perhaps disappointed, but will the majority of users make friends with this update, at last, with the jet and enjoy it. Everything runs more smoothly, smoother and more pleasant.
The design of some elements has been revamped and now do more. Additional features and widgets facilitate the daily use of the phone and, together with the support of the new DLNA client feature the multi-alignment of the jets.
It may be said at this point nothing more than an unconditional update recommendations for the Major Update!
Anyone who still believes there are dealing with a business device that simply did not adequately informed in advance and must not grumble now, but should immediately look around for something appropriate. In this sense, continue to enjoy your jet.
XEII2 is not an official release for Asia.. it is for EU. Phone is noticeably better and it's smoother to use Navigation softwares. but there is no Asian language support. i cant read Chinese, so i'm ok with it

@ajay67 : the battery life is just slightly better.. not much change tho. mine lasts about 3 days till from full bars to full discharge, with 4-5 calls a day (duration ~10 mins per call), SMS 30-40 msgs a day, 3G occasionally and WiFi for 1-2 hrs, take picture 10-15 pics.

XEII2 is not an official release for Asia.. it is for EU. Phone is noticeably better and it's smoother to use Navigation softwares. but there is no Asian language support. i cant read Chinese, so i'm ok with it
be careful at flashing your phone..
@ajay67 : the battery life is just slightly better.. not much change tho. mine lasts about 3 days till from full bars to full discharge, with 4-5 calls a day (duration ~10 mins per call), SMS 30-40 msgs a day, 3G occasionally and WiFi for 1-2 hrs, take picture 10-15 pics.
what the.... , and ppl still complaining of Jet's battery life could be better. This kind of battery life is more than average. and it's very good from my opinion.

it depends on the settings u put on the phone also.. i set the phone sounds to 0.. only calls & text have audible alerts. and my txt ringtone is at vol 5, call at vol 2 cuz i dont want to wake up everyone in the office. and dont forget brightness settings.

no.. you got it wrong. on Asian firmwares i.e. DXIG2, it is S8003. if you flash the phone with XEII2, it will become S8000. it's basically the same.. just different on the Europe/Asian version. flashing a phone is like formatting your comp, but still the same operating system.
I purchased a S8003, but now I have S8000. as long as the firmware is for Jet, then it will definitely be compatible..

if you play video from youtube, it will use its own video player to play the vid and buffers it from there. (won't play like embedded vids u see in ur computer tenet browser).
in my previous firmware (DXIG2, newer than DXIF8) i do not have that difficulty tho it was slow opening the video but still playable. on XEII2, things have improved. but sadly, youtube videos still don't look really good to me.. maybe bcuz youtube automatically detects the phone internet browser (called Dolfin Browser) and switches to m.youtube.com.. so the vids come out as LQ. but that is understandable..
May I know which firmware is stable? I prefer firmware that support chinese.
its not a matter of stable or not, the features release with the firmware are important and i should say, XEII2 comes with a lot features/improvement..

i am updating new firmware now xe2, but the multiloader just keep me waiting too long, not sure if it really running, or idle, have u ever encountered this problem?

usually only take minutes to upload the file on ur phone..maybe the multioader is not connected to your phone..
i got the flash guide from darkforest forum, and the instructions stated were not clear. when i was downloading using multiloader, i found my "network utilization=0 percent"...need to replace battery and press power-volume-and camera buttons togeter, before connecting phone to computer? after connected to computer do i need to open pc studio? according to darkforest, it says we must unplug cable before we replaced battery and remove simcard and memory card, then when is the time that we replug the cable in? after we press 3 buttons to get our phone in boot mode?

Same thing confuse me here. Well, I did not proceed until your step yet. I got post in darkforest forum about this. Maybe you can add in and see what darkforest comment. Below is my link to the topic.
According to them, plug into the pc after step 4 when your phone is in bootloader screen.

I called Maxis and they do not have this model yet in their system and cannot sms me for auto setting installation. They asked me go to any maxis center and ask for set it manually. Thanks... I found the way to play the youtube on DXIF8. The setting is click the youtube -> more -> settings -> Browser profiles -> choose the profile that connect to current wifi. However it still cannot play the youtube with HD. Maybe is different flash version.

for IM, use morange..thats the best for me and install snaptu..great apps..

for samsung jet i can say the sound quality quite good..far better than iphone..JET only have one speaker at the back bottom..the sound is clear, good and loud..the sound getting better when you use headphone with it..
internal setting allow you to change the default sound volume and it can be louder..
equip with the sound effect and wowhd effect for music..

im worried bout samsung jet ringtone sound quality coz im always on outdoor enviroment mostly. iphone ald failed me. been using it for a year + n depend on the vibration mode since the ringtone sux badly (volume n tone)..
another quick question. does the latest firmware reduce the lagness n delay of the touchwiz? coz i saw the review of samsung jet in youtube look kinda laggy n delay badly (almost 3 sec).

hello. i plan to get samsumg jet at the end of this year or late Jan 2010. think the price shld have drop to RM1400 or below and new firmware shld be latest.
1. btw, which link can I update the firmware and does it void warranty?
2. not sure how long the t-screen will last as usually (lar) samsung hardware is quite fragile. 6/10 ppl complain samsung phones usually got hardware issues

searched everywhere in darkforest Jet thread,esp in the firmware threads from 1-9 but couldnt locate DXII2
