QUOTE(tenno @ Oct 22 2009, 03:16 PM)
Most training programs I've seen only specify the distance or time U have to run, plus at what pace. They dun put there how hard U have to run, in terms of heart rate la. So, actually, U'll do just fine with Nike Sportsband.

I also check out these sites : Cool Running and Active.com Running microsite.
*
I think at times there are programs which are heart rate oriented.. like recovery heart rate pace, steady non -pushing heart rate pace and pushing max heart rate pace..being better

I think these programs are better because everyone's heart rate is diff, and its more specific
eg. a beginner and a pro...

If asked to run a 6min/km pace you may not be able to reach such a pace.. but if asked to run at a specific heart rate you can do so if you hv a heart rate monitor ..and of course as you train, you are able to push longer and harder
eg. 142 bpm may use to be your avg when you were a beginner, it would have been more difficult for you to run at a higher avg but as you train your avg bpm will easily be higher translating to you running faster

QUOTE(strinq @ Oct 22 2009, 08:38 PM)
So happy today...my first ever 10km run...actually felt a huge sense of accomplishment.
biggrin.gif

1 hr 5min 10sec

Felt like I could go further but at the risk of collapsing.
One Question, anyone here ever collapsed before in a run? Be it in a casual/training/competition run?
Curious to know.

The Progrid Jazz 12. Not a super expensive shoe but it's still super expensive for me lol.
Just very happy to have gotten it, gift from someone. smile.gif

No man...didn't register and never ever raced in my life before.
And 1 hour 5min is super slow lol. Read online that normal guys usually run 10k's at 45 min. sweat.gif
And the wave run isn't like my normal running which is quite flat.
It's really hilly. Slopes here and there.

Progrid Jazz 12..they are nice pair of shoes nod.gif and by the way stop putting yourself down and comparing yourself to the runners' times thats' the least you could do right now, smile.gif

but its ok its a normal someone new in running to compare times, my point is just enjoy the experience and dont get carried away worrying about your time

I dun run 10k in 45 mins sweat.gif . Definitely more than that (1 hour i think) rclxub.gif . Still I think I'm still normal. Those who run 42k in less than 2 hours 10mins I think is not normal for only few people can really run that fast rclxms.gif

I dun think normal ppl can run 10K in 45 mins. Normal athlete maybe la. The world record is 29 mins I think. My Ministry's best runner last year clocked 37 mins (he's a national-class athlete). I just broke the hour last July (on the track). Relax. Dun be so hard on Urself.

I never really run in my training zone. I almost always run at 80% of my max, tht's about 170 bpm. Even if I try to jog easily, my heart rate would go up to 150. But that 170 bpm, I can sustain for quite sometime la. Just that, if I tried to stay in my training zone, I'd be going too slow.

45mins for 10k = normal???????????/!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i can assure its not biggrin.gif bcoz, lemme ask u this if ur a weekend warrior or at most a regular runner.. wats ur fastest time per km?
i m sure many many do not run a 10k in 45 mins
to run 10k in 45 mins, 1km =?

and if lets say ur fastest km for now, doesn't reach the 45mins for 10km mark, can u even sustain that pace for 10km?

jgn risau, chill chill, train train train and you ill improve!

nod.gif agreed, norm ppl dun run 10k in 45mins
but u shud nw that ur nt suppose to hit 80% like reallli often?

there is a reason why dey want u to start slow? i encountered what you encountered..too slow
but after a while i realize i could run faster without a high bpm, so despite being in the "training zone" my speed improved?
there must b some sort of base training? before hitting the high notes? hmm.gif

To say run 10km in 45 minutes, you'll be one of those usually qualified for a medal HAHAHA...

I ran my first 10km with a time of 1hour 6 minutes. Though now I would be able to achieve below 60 minutes. So I am not the normal people already... lol

During the Mizuno Wave Run race-kit distribution, there also handed out a piece of paper. I did not take that paper. Anything important written there that I should know?

Thanks.

Guys, I want to ask for advice/tips with regards to the best way of loosing weight while training for marathon without starving yourself or any crash diet (because we need to eat appropriately while we're training right?cause we need food to fuel our body for this kind of sport). See, I'm 173cm, 85kg and I think my weight is really wearing me down running for long runs. I think it is my weight that causes the side of knees to hurt during long runs. Tonight I plan to run 11k from my place in Sec 14 then Jalan University all the way to Jalan Gasing, PJ Hilton and back to my place. Hopefully I will be able to finish the run without hurting my knees again.

Err, noob question here cuz i've never entered a race before.

What are the average times for the top 10? top 100? Been googling but they don't seem to publish past results unless i've been searching wrong.

Of course. During slow days I'll go real slow, almost walking pace. This is especially during the building base phase, usually the first 4 weeks of Ur 12-week program. Even during this base phase, they will include some intervals, maybe not so high intensity ones la.

I'm picking my racepack tomorrow. So, after race we all meet next to the Milo van ah ? I shud be easy to recognize, I'll be wearing Livestrong visor (black color), Oakley M-frame Livestrong & band.

What if there's no Milo van ? hmm.gif

honestly, you should just run and eat as per norm..
becoz bear in mind, last time when u eat.. u weren't into running? hence the increase in weight
but having started running, you should see a diff..

but if your serious, do a little research with GOOGLE for the required calories for a male adult biggrin.gif
count what you eat, eat as per recommended..
but the thing is, never ever starve, and i assume you know that if at times you feel hungry it could also mean you haven been drinking enuff water icon_idea.gif

o btw, knees hurting.. aging shoes?
no offense but 85kg at your height isn't half bad and 11km isn't actually that far..
and i assuming you have ran this distance before?
trying taking things a little slower.. a relaxing pace

At the starting point I guess. It's at the UPM stadium.

After I've picked up my bibs, I'ma head out to Mizuno Gardens, gotta buy a pair of spikes for my Ministry's sports carnival, I'm running the 10,000m next Sunday. Hei, maybe they're gonna have Mizuno booth (obviously) at the start, but I doubt it they're gonna have spikes there.

eh? hmmm, i thought 83 at 173 is not very good? Unless it's mostly muscle then its ok.
But the advice is so true.
Whatever it is, if u want to lose weight you just absolutely must count calories.
I'm not that big in the first place but manage to lose 3kg in about 2 1/2 month. 66 to 63 kg at 171cm.
But it involved quite heavy dieting.
But since i'm running nowadays and gym-ing at times i'm back to eating usually and have not gained back the weight i lost. smile.gif

d3vilzzz, y didn't u get to utilize it?
Tak faham...eh, u got a better pair right after that eh? brows.gif
