Question
1) Is there any restriction in the t & c to sign up a 'non-family member' under Family Plus?
2) As stated above (I may be wrong!) but Family Plus benefits do not work with iValue plans right?

Also just for curiosity sake, what iPhone 3GS and rate/plan are you taking up? Also for teikwing?
*
2) Correct. Specifically calls from Main line to sup lines are not free. You do get a 20% discount. Sup-Main & sup-sup lines remain free and also the main line won't have talk time sharing with the sup lines. For me the Talk Time Sharing is more important than the free calls to my sups.

I'm currently on Value Plus 50 with a few Family Plus 30 sup lines. I plan to signup for iData2 to get the slight discount for the 3GS 32GB.

@Takky
Machines had 12 month interest free easy payment plan with the iPhone 3G. Should be the same for the 3GS.
Worst case you can buy it first and then convert to 6, 12, 18, 24 month payment plans. I know EON Bank & Citibank can do that but you extra a certain percentage.

mind to clarify on your statement as in which Maxis representative you got the info from? if it's true then i'll add the info in the CAQ section. smile.gif

I asked one of the representative in Maxis Centre KLCC. That was 2 weeks ago, and the model I asked for is 3G. I dont know whether 3GS is the same or not though smile.gif

I called maxis customer service this morning to confirm whether i can still maintain my VP80 to get 3G S. The answer is YES but i have to subscribe any iData plan to secure 3G S. So, my decision is to maintain my 2 months left contract ( VP80 ) and get my 3G S with subscribe to iData1 plan RM30.

advice and suggestions are most welcome. thx
*
better get the iData2 plan RM50.. with iData1 u only get 250mb for data usage and there's no savings on the iphone..

Does anyone mind telling me the final price for iPhone 3GS 32GB if I buy one for Maxis? The cheapest price including prepaid plan. Is it RM2990?

QUOTE(hellokitten @ Jul 16 2009, 05:45 PM)
Noob question here guys / gals,

I have a Bold and currently a Maxis customer on an unlimited data package + BB service (about RM120) and also on a value RM150 plan. I have ONE supplementary line and on the Friends / Family Package.

I intend to buy the 3GS for its amazing library of applications but not ditch the BB due to superior push technology.

My noob-like question is as follows:

1) What are my ONLY options to get the 3GS without paying anymore since i'm happy with my Value Rm150 and the unlimited data package + BB Service?

2) I actually have 2 sim cards for my main line (on the Bold). I have 2 because i lost one last time, got a new one, days later, found the old one. Let's say somehow or rather i now own the 3GS; if i put my other 'spare' sim card inside my 3GS, would i still be able to surf (data) on both my Bold and 3GS at the same time? And what happens to voice calls now; which phone would ring if both phones are turned on?

Thank you in advance.
*
1. without paying anymore as in monthly bill? get 3GS outright via the Hotlink plan. just get a Hotlink prepaid pack and get 16GB at RM2490 or 32GB at RM2990.

2. have you checked whether both sim cards are still accessible? i don't think it's possible to use 2 exact sim cards at once together. one of them might have been deactivated already.

@D.Sync:
yes. it's clearly stated in the Hotlink plans & its T&C on the first page/Maxis webpage. please do read up before posting.

Hey wanna query about Value Plus Family:

If I supp a line using that from my VP80 plan what does Shared Talk Time mean? How long is that? The 15 hours?

It states :

• Voice and video calls are FREE up to 15 hours.
• SMS is FREE up to 1500 SMS

I'm thinking of this option but I guess can't fully utilise this if both me and my gf wanna buy iPhone 3GS right because for calls between me and her is with 20% discount for me and free for her to me right?

yes. i guess you're planning to get the iValue? which will only entitle your supp line(s) to make free calls up 15 hours to you but your calls to your supp line(s) will be charged at normal rate stated minus 20% discount.

if both of you get your iPhones under iData then both of you will be able to utilise the free talk time/SMS. (ie. 15 hours you->gf, 15 hours gf->you; 1500 SMS you->gf, 1500 SMS gf->you)

@djkeoni:
transferring her as a supp line from another primary line to yours will cost RM50 (transfer of ownership fee) and both primary line owners must be present for the process. can only be done at Maxis centres. smile.gif

@cgw:
it's valid for the old iPhone 3G at Machines and Maxis but not too sure whether is it still valid now since the 3GS is out.

So to get around the situation and cost -

1)can she just disconnect her current supp line and open up new line independently and thereafter become my supp? no actual 'transfer' involved?

2) or will this situation cause her to lose her current phone number in the process?

3) also if she does open a new line + iData will she be then allowed to become a supp?

Hope this isnt too confusing! hehe

Does we need to officially fill the registration forms and activate the Hotlink line in order to entitle for the outright unit (ex:RM2490) ?

Or can we just buy the Hotlink prepaid package without actually open & using it ?

@djkeoni:
i think she might lose her number in the process if she cancel off her current line and open up a new line. Maxis has some specific T&C regarding that, which i've forgot. i've faced the similar situation like yours but end up transferring the ownership as it's much more convenient, albeit being charged RM50.

@raoul:
you will need to activate that Prepaid number as Maxis will need to register the number under the 500MB data bundle which comes with the plan.

I just purchased an iPhone 3GS 16gb from Australia when Maxis announced their plan. Hmm, the iData RM50 plan seems tempting. I might just let go mine slightly cheaper to get the the Maxis set.

@heartofjoy,
I don't see Y U should sell the phone after using it for 8 months but if U do and U keep the SIM the 500MB data will still be applicable on that SIM provided the SIM remains active.

@djkeoni,
I'm not gonna comment but you've analysed it well - in fact, if ur current usage on the VP80 is ngam ngam then the 667 minutes may not be a suitable plan; but I can't be 100% sure cause I didn't do the actual calculations.

As to signing up non family members under Family Plus plans, no problem at all. And Yes.. iValue plans will NOT work with FamilyPlus benefits

I'm not taking up the iPhone 3GS plans from Maxis. Am oredi currently using the iPhone 3GS from Australia and am using it with VP80 + RM99 Unlimited Data Plan - i never quite activated data on my i3G so I'm not sure if 500MB is sufficient, will be monitoring usage for the next 3 months though and if it's going to be more than sufficient then I'll just downgrade my RM99 plan to RM50 for 500MB plan biggrin.gif

@teikwing,
You're absolutely right - but what an irony - the 2 people who are uhm... proxy here aren't going to be buying the Maxis units tongue.gif laugh.gif

@psjjl,
If the iData 30 plan gives U sufficient data services then go ahead biggrin.gif Er.. having read your next post, perhaps you want to go with the Hotlink prepaid option instead - that way it gives you flexibility to use your i3GS with your current Celcom line; and you will not need to pay Maxis the additional RM30 for the next 12/24 months

@hellokitten,
Your best option is to go with the prepaid plan. Btw iPhone 3GS also has push capabilities

@takky,
The i3G and i3GS are 2 separate models. It's best if you checked with the Maxis people once again on the i3GS.

@D.Sync,
The information U require us available on Post #1 of this thread.

@djkeoni,
Shared Talk Time means this:- U have 2 lines and both are part of FamilyPlus. Line 1 is on VP80 and Line 2 is on VP30. This means your total monthly commitment to Maxis is RM110 (RM80+RM30). Your monthly commitment of RM110 can be utilised between Line 1 and 2; meaning let's say Line 1 spends only RM20 on calls for the month and Line 2 spends RM90 - u still pay Maxis RM110. They don't care which line uses more and which line uses less as long as when both lines combine, your monthly commitment is a minimum of RM110 biggrin.gif

Calls between Line 1 and Line 2 will be free up to X hrs and there will also be X number of SMS free.

@cgw,
Maxis has not announced any instalment plans but U could always link the instalment plans to your Credit Card. In this instance, U will need to contact your Credit Card and get the information from the bank.

@raoul,
U need to activate the Hotlink number biggrin.gif

@mudz_amin,
If U oredi have the iPhone then U don't need to look at the plans; go for the ValuePlus plans and boost it up with the iData packages, do not go with iValue plans cause IMHO those are ridiculous stewpid plans for Maxis to make $ tongue.gif

@teikwing,
And I like that final remark about us not being Maxis personnels tongue.gif Could I cut it and make it my signature? tongue.gif

@zc_squash,
What's the point? Nothing's stopping U from opening an iData plan with your existing Maxis SIM. In fact I think U can just latch on and do an add on purchase without even having to sign a contract for it biggrin.gif

At least that's what I did when I asked them to open my RM99 Unlimited Data Plan.

I was reading Maxis' website again only to found out that yes, I could always just subscribe to the iData plan! Silly me tongue.gif

Anyway the only other reason I would sell off mine and buy Maxis' set is for the warranty.

@zc_squash,
Yes that is possible too but if Ur gonna be losing loads of $ what's the point biggrin.gif So how much are U intending to sell that AU set off?! PM me the price and let me know the specs. Also will need the colour.

Personally, I still think U should just use the AU set (thus far touch-wood, I haven't had issues with my i3G & i3GS) - it's going to be v much cheaper in the long term but it's ur $ so it's ur call smile.gif

Just a thought really wink.gif I... ermm... actually haven't have my phone yet sad.gif My friend is only coming back this Saturday so... It's a black 16gb though!

Anyway do you happen to know how much is the rate for data usage if i'm on iValue 50 plan? I don't really know if I need the extra iData plan or not. After all, on my old iPhone I don't have GPS and surfing on the EDGE network is a bit too slow so I've never used it. I also turned off Push notification on my old iPhone.

Having said that, I am not too sure how much is enough for data usage. Would appreciate if you can share some of your experience!

i will answer this part for the last time as i'm pretty sure this has been repeated a few times. anyway regulars can quote my example and the provided website, should anyone stumbles upon another similar question.

QUOTE
i don't jailbreak and tether my iPhone (important piece of information) and i'm on the 250MB/data. let me illustrate on, my typical average usage per day; i'm perpetually on LYN (not the lite version), retrieve and reply e-mails (6 accounts), read news (from different sites), moderate another forum, blog hopping, IM chatting and the odd apps updating. i typically, spend approximately 6 hours away from my home during university days and rely heavily on the optus 3G network of course. also bear in mind that i have never exceeded my data allowance. this website should also be helpful to estimate your usage.
