For those with sup lines, this might be pertinent information which I got from Maxis Centre Pavilion.

Let's say you're on Value Plus 50 and you have sup lines on Family Plus 30, calls from main-sup, sup-main, sup-sup lines are free.

If you change to iValue plan, calls from sup-main & sup-sup lines remains free but calls from main-sup lines are charged at 20% discount of your iValue call rate.

@weileong
I'm in the same boat as you. I was set for iValue RM100 but now I'll probably go for idata RM50 to get the iphone.

Also you can make 2 bookings with same name & IC by booking once with your new IC number and again with your old IC number.

One more thing, iValue plan + Value Plus Family = No Talk Time sharing.

@Superman7,
Yes U will need to ensure the Hotlink number is active to get the free data.  If U dont mind the contract period then go ahead and get the iPhone with the iData plan but otherwise U can choose to forgo the 500MB free data lor.
*
So in effect, if one wishes to utilise the Hotlink free 500mb/mth data for the whole year, it becomes a minimum RM30/mth for 12 months contract.

Question
1) Is there any restriction in the t & c to sign up a 'non-family member' under Family Plus?
2) As stated above (I may be wrong!) but Family Plus benefits do not work with iValue plans right?

Also just for curiosity sake, what iPhone 3GS and rate/plan are you taking up? Also for teikwing?
*
2) Correct. Specifically calls from Main line to sup lines are not free. You do get a 20% discount. Sup-Main & sup-sup lines remain free and also the main line won't have talk time sharing with the sup lines. For me the Talk Time Sharing is more important than the free calls to my sups.

I'm currently on Value Plus 50 with a few Family Plus 30 sup lines. I plan to signup for iData2 to get the slight discount for the 3GS 32GB.

@Takky
Machines had 12 month interest free easy payment plan with the iPhone 3G. Should be the same for the 3GS.
Worst case you can buy it first and then convert to 6, 12, 18, 24 month payment plans. I know EON Bank & Citibank can do that but you extra a certain percentage.

That i know, but what i dont know is why the double standard in disallowing port in customers to sign up for 24 month contract?
The max contract period of 12 months for port in customers is actually an MNP regulation set by the SKMM. It's item 25 in their faq on this page.

Ic...By the way, you will choose black or white?
Is white color getting dirty easily?or will it turn to yellow-like color easily?
*
I want to get a white one but will most probably take a black 3GS. If not, my wife will know that I got a new phone again. I'm currently using a black 3G. :-)

@soonwai,
Er.. there is a difference between the i3G and i3GS so if she looks properly she probably will be able to tell you got a new phone.
*
Hopefully she won't notice. :-) I think the difference is fairly inconspicuous unless you have the 3GS next to the 3G then it's glaringly obvious.

Btw does anyone know, assuming I signed up with iData 2, can I upgrade to iData 3 later on?  Is that allowed?
*
Yes, allowed. I asked the very same question at Maxis Centre Pavilion since I'm also going for iData2. You can upgrade anytime with no penalties. The charges for that month will be pro-rated. No changes to the contract.

@Coconut,
hMMm.. it seems as if we're getting conflict answers; lemme make a call later and see what the CS tells me smile.gif

I think best to do that to be sure.

The Curve Roadshow is run by an MEP (ie a Maxis dealer with a nice TLA) and dealers have sometimes given me wrong or incomplete information. eg: When I was asking about iValue Plans and VPF supp lines, Maxis dealer in Ampang Point told me calls are free between main & supp lines (just like VP+VPF). Later I found out from both Maxis Centre Pavilion & 123 that main-supp lines aren't free. The dealer also "forgot" to mention that there's no talk-time sharing.

I think from business point of view, it would make sense that they don't charge for an upgrade.

Downgrade definitely will have monetary consequences.

Tink, when you're on the line with 123, can you ask about penalties for downgrading?

Any one notice that suddently so many people selling off the iPhone 3g
*
Yeah, must sell off to feed the 3GS monster. I'm also thinking of selling off my iPhone 3G & wife's 2G but just haven't had time to pen a post. Maybe I'll just give it to my wife.

Regarding postpaid vs prepaid, I was using RM100-130 on Digi Prepaid up until about 8 months ago when I changed to Digi50 postpaid which is RM50 a month. I've only gone over the RM50 once since then. My call patterns have not changed and most likely have increased incrementally since the change. So for me, postpaid is definitely cheaper.

Of course, this is only my experience. Call patterns are highly individualised so YMMV.

if you do youtube a lot, 500mb is definitely not enough. Even moderate usage also not enough.

Cause 1 movie is already around 10-20mb. You watch 10 is already 100mb-200mb. One month can easily go more than 10.
*
Agree, agree. Also don't forget now we might be uploading more since we can take video and upload straight to Youtube from the 3GS.

Hmm.. really contemplating whether should i go for 24 or 12 months contract.
Not sure whether the RM300 is worth saving or otherwise since I expect call rates to drop in the future *ponders*
*
Go for 12 months then next year you can sell off the 3GS and get the new iPhone. 24 months is too long to be tied to a telco. Some people don't even stay married for that long. :-)

Just confirmed by calling xustomer service:

Last week I bought a sim pack $8.80 from Maxis. And I went back to Maxis to confirmed the 500mb they told me I am not registered so I called machines they told me its Maxis fault. 2 Parties blaming each other so I called customer to clarified here the answer:

For those who bought the phone from machines you will not be entitled the 500mb free every month.

Only those eligible - if you purchased the phone directly from Maxis you will be entitled 500mb.

What a double standard- those who purchased from machines will be short changed just like me.
*
Strange, I bought a 3GS from Switch Mines, Sunday noon, with a new Hotlink card. When I eventually put in the card about 3 hours later and activated the phone, I received the 500mb sms almost immediately.

QUOTE(xenohawk @ Aug 2 2009, 10:51 PM)
Just a update for those of you who got the phone with hotlink plan on saturday and still haven't received the free 500MB data SMS.

I just called up the customer service (after 24 hours since my last report) and they said that they will only activate it on working days. If by noon tomorrow there is still no activation of the 500MB free data you can call back customer service about it.

So far I am lucky that the iPhone never try to connect the internet even though I did accidentally ter-clicked on Safari and Mail. Lucky 1U have free WiFi, other big mall should really do that..
*
which number did u called? 1300 820 120? The hotlink customer service abit sucky =( i got my phone on friday, till now havent get..called on saturday, till now nothing...now calling hotlink customer service again zzzzz

Not quite a brand new line but I ported in from Digi and it was quite fast. Maybe 10mins or so. I did this about a week before the launch.

sorry if i'm intruding, but i really need to find out about this.

Its already 4th of August, I assume the 3gs is already out.
let's say we walk into maxis centres, is there anyway to pay for the prepaid plan (ie iphone 3gs 16gb rm2490) and just walk off with the phone without any pre booking?

I really hope this is possible as i really wanted to get the phone today, cash ready.
*
You can if they have stocks not reserved for anyone but the problem is finding a shop like this. I got one such unit from Switch Mines on Sunday. The staff there told me that someone cancelled their booking. They had 2 units on Sat night but 1 left when I went the next morning.

I'm sure most of you already know this but for the benefit of those who don't.

1. If you opt for email statements, no more paper bills via pos, you can enable itemised billing for free. Normal charge is RM3 or RM5 a mth, I think.

2. You can activate call forwarding for free if your 3G service is already activated which it should be if you're on iValue plan.

This is true for all postpaid plans, not just iValue or iData.
