Dude's could I clarify with you guys -

Which works out better for a Maxis postpaid user?

1) Keep my Value Plus 80 , buy iPhone 3GS with prepaid (which I am not going to use) and then subscribe to Unlimited 3G for rm99; or

2) Purchase iPhone 3GS with iValue 2 (1GB) [12 months]; or

3) Purchase iPhone 3GS with iData 2 (500MB) / 3(3GB) [12 months]

Am trying to decide on a plan rate that would be best value for both calls and data. Hope one of you can help me out here?

Thanks!

are you a heavy data user? how much are your call charges every month? from the ones you listed, and from my humble opinion, option 1 is the best if you utilise data heavily. option 3 if you are a moderate user and option 2 is you're have balanced usage between data and calls.

Thanks teikwing! Well I suppose you're right. I broke down the details if it helps anyone in my shoes:

Prepaid + ValuePlus 80 + Unlimited 3G = iPhone 3GS 16GB rm2490 + Monthly rm179

iValue 2 = 667 minutes + 1GB data = iPhone 3GS 16GB rm1990 + Monthly 155

iData 2 = 500MB data @ rm50 + ValuePlus 80 = iPhone 3GS 16GB rm2090 + Monthly rm130

iData 3 = 3GB data @ rm99 + ValuePlus 80 = iPhone 3GS 16GB rm1990 + Monthly rm179

As a current Maxis postpaid user on VP80 I'm just weighing the differences between :

1) changing to iValue 2 for eg.
12 sen/min and 10 sen/min for sms

compared with

2) keeping VP80 and adding iData 2 for eg.
12 sen/min to Maxis numbers & 15 sen/min to non-Maxis
5 sen to Maxis numbers for sms & 15 sen to non Maxis numbers for sms

It seems the iValue plans don't fully list out calls to other networks and sms charges to other networks or is it a flat rate to all networks?

Only thing for certain is the free minutes, in this case 667 minutes apply to all domestic calls both land line and mobile on any network if i'm not wrong.

Can shed any light?

@djkeoni:
i do agree with tink. you see, if you still wanna enjoy your current VP80 benefits such as lower call rates and frequent SMS, plus free calls to supp lines, just go for iData 2 albeit paying RM300 more than iValue 2 for the iPhone.

rather than subscribing to iValue 2 for the cheaper iPhone price, more data bundle but end up paying more if your calls exceed 667 minutes and SMS a lot. if you can stay within the limits of 667 minutes and does not SMS that much than okay la.

I guess I gotta see if I can fit my calls within 667 mins + maybe purchase 500sms @ rm8 VERSUS keeping VP80 + adding iData 2

However, I do not have any sub lines under me nor am I on any Family plans.

So I am thinking is the long run benefit of an independent VP80 user as myself switching to iValue 2 would bring:
1)flat rate of 12 sen/min to all networks VERSUS 12sen (Maxis) / 15sen (Non-Maxis)
2)flat rate of 10 sen/sms to all networks VERSUS 5sen (Maxis) / 15 sen (Non-Maxis)

In any case a lot of my contacts & gf tongue.gif are on Maxis anyway...

@djkeoni,
It's really up to U to go check ur usage.  Also, remember the 500SMS is only for Maxis-Maxis networks.

Go sign up ur gf on the Family Plus and U 2 will talk and SMS for free.. That way, I think the 667 minutes will be more than enuff tongue.gif

Yup thanks. I guess for me it boils down to either:

Option 1
Choose iValue 2
- live within 667 mins + enjoy 1 GB data but pay additional for each sms @ 10sen / buy 500 Maxis-Maxis sms @ rm8
(pro's: more data, flat rate of 10sen for calls after 667 mins & rm400 iPhone discount) (con's: pay for each sms additionally)

Monthly Minimum Bill : rm155

or

Option 2
Choose iData 2
- live within current VP80 plan + enjoy 500MB data + sign gf up with Family Plus for free calls & sms between us
(pro's: inclusive calls & sms up to rm80 & can still create/maintain supplementary call benefits)
(con's: less data & no rm400 iPhone discount)

Monthly Minimum Bill : (rm80 + rm50) = rm130

Which would most of you choose?

I suppose if you wanna:

Surf more on your phone - pick iValue!
Surf moderately + maintain calls, sms & supplementary benefits - pick iData!

Question
1) Is there any restriction in the t & c to sign up a 'non-family member' under Family Plus?
2) As stated above (I may be wrong!) but Family Plus benefits do not work with iValue plans right?

Also just for curiosity sake, what iPhone 3GS and rate/plan are you taking up? Also for teikwing?

2) Correct. Specifically calls from Main line to sup lines are not free. You do get a 20% discount. Sup-Main & sup-sup lines remain free and also the main line won't have talk time sharing with the sup lines. For me the Talk Time Sharing is more important than the free calls to my sups.

I'm currently on Value Plus 50 with a few Family Plus 30 sup lines. I plan to signup for iData2 to get the slight discount for the 3GS 32GB.

@Takky
Machines had 12 month interest free easy payment plan with the iPhone 3G. Should be the same for the 3GS.
Worst case you can buy it first and then convert to 6, 12, 18, 24 month payment plans. I know EON Bank & Citibank can do that but you extra a certain percentage.

Hey wanna query about Value Plus Family:

If I supp a line using that from my VP80 plan what does Shared Talk Time mean? How long is that? The 15 hours?

It states :

• Voice and video calls are FREE up to 15 hours.
• SMS is FREE up to 1500 SMS

I'm thinking of this option but I guess can't fully utilise this if both me and my gf wanna buy iPhone 3GS right because for calls between me and her is with 20% discount for me and free for her to me right?

yes. i guess you're planning to get the iValue? which will only entitle your supp line(s) to make free calls up 15 hours to you but your calls to your supp line(s) will be charged at normal rate stated minus 20% discount.

if both of you get your iPhones under iData then both of you will be able to utilise the free talk time/SMS. (ie. 15 hours you->gf, 15 hours gf->you; 1500 SMS you->gf, 1500 SMS gf->you)
*
ohhhhhhhhhh ok sorry so blur tongue.gif yes I suppose both will take iData then. Hey if i'm not wrong her line is a supp from her dad or something. Can she open a new postpaid line and take iData or is it only for current customers & then i can add her as my supp line? Or how does it work?

@djkeoni:
transferring her as a supp line from another primary line to yours will cost RM50 (transfer of ownership fee) and both primary line owners must be present for the process. can only be done at Maxis centres. smile.gif
So to get around the situation and cost -

1)can she just disconnect her current supp line and open up new line independently and thereafter become my supp? no actual 'transfer' involved?

2) or will this situation cause her to lose her current phone number in the process?

3) also if she does open a new line + iData will she be then allowed to become a supp?

Hope this isnt too confusing! hehe

Heya Tinkerbell or teikwing or whoever knows,

Wanna ask info regarding the Easy Payment Scheme, From my understanding, as it states in the first FAQ page:

"Easy Payment/Monthly Installment Plan for iPhone 3G/3GS:
Maxis Centres:
QUOTE
0% interest Easy Payment Plan available for iValue Plan subscribers only (iData TBC). Prepayment of monthly fee is required. For more info, refer to iValue Plan & details in Post #2.

Only applicable to credit card holders of selected banks:
Maybank (up to 24 months)
Public Bank (up to 12 months)
HSBC (up to 12 months)
Citibank
*No processing fee for HSBC & Citibank
(credits to jssl & silverarrow)

Machines Outlets:
*Rates might be bank-dependent, do verify with respective banks before purchase

QUOTE
Accepts Maybank , AmBank , HSBC , CIMB & Citibank

Surcharge for 6 months and 12 months Installment Plan , 2% for 6 months and 4% for 12 months .

More information about the installment payment, call Machines 1U @ 03-7727 2606 (credits to boringpig)

> Amex Gold CC: 0% interest on installments for purchases made up to December 2009 (credits to tinkerbel)
> Direct Access MasterCard: 0% interest on installments for purchases made up to December 2009
(10 months installment =min. RM1000, 20 months installment = min. RM3000) (credits to jackhammer84)"|

So basically it seems to me that if I buy at the Maxis Centres I can only use the said cards for the purchases of the iValue plans right AND if bought at Machines can use other cards too ya.

Situation is I do not want the ripping off iValue since im already a postpaid user hence i wanna take the iData plans which Maxis finds unworthy of being within the Easy Payment Scheme.

So I was thinking yeah, if a Direct Access Card is used as mentioned, which is for any purchases within the limits defined, do you think I could still purchase the phone with iData using that scheme hence enjoying the 0% installments?

Thanks! Hope its clear what I'm saying!

Did most of you buy from Maxis or Machines? I picked Machines coz of the future member card discounts if I wanna buy stuff :-p

Dude, buy directly at Pavillion Maxis. You can get on the spot ! It will end on this Sunday so hurry ! As for the 200 you can get back if go there to collect cause is not Maxis.

Thanks. I don't understand what you mean by "As for the 200 you can get back if go there to collect cause is not Maxis." ? As far as I was told by the guy at Machines when I paid the 200 deposit, he said it was non-refundable.

Anyone can shed light on this issue? Thanks

Hi, I know you have always thought that the iValue plans are not a good deal and you think its better to just stick with a current plan and just add on iData right?

Well the last I kept track of your stand was prior to the revised iValue plans which bundled this and that.

I'm finally getting my iPhone now and have asked for iData 2 at time of booking (which suits my needs i think). However wanna ask whether your opinion has changed with regards to the iValue now?

Anyone else got input?

I think other than the higher rebate obtained for purchasing the phone, the iValue isnt really value for money is it?

well, even if there's a higher rebate, the rebate will actually be 'redeemed' by back Maxis in case you did not fully utilize the iValue plan.

Marketing tactic ey tongue.gif So i take it that it is more 'value' with just bolting on the iData plans right?
