Hey Guys,

They finally made it work!

OK, I followed the steps here, and got it to work.

Try it at your own risk smile.gif

Always remember: Backup wink.gif

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

For starters, you have to be on OS 3.0.

Method 1 (Cydia)
1. Install the file "ActivateMMS2G" from the ispazio repo in Cydia.

Method 2 (SSH)
1. Using SSH, copy the file mms2g.deb (attached) into iphone folder, for example /var/root
2. Then in same folder (/var/root) in terminal input: dpkg -i mms2g.deb
3. Reboot.

Method 3 (SSH)
1. Extract files from Patch.zip into folders same as arhive.
2. For CommCenter chmod 755.
2. Reboot.

You can then adjust the apn, user, password, under Settings - General - Network - Cellular Data Network Settings.

For more information on MMS settings for your carriers, please view:

Just to correct

I spoke with developers of pwnagetool (those great iPhone developers). They said its not about files , its about baseband. 3G baseband supports MMS sending directly without the need of "connecting to MMS Server" first and sending. It takes a different approach

Just a word of caution? I installed this on my iphone 2g, hit reboot, and then the iphone rebooted, see the apple logo, then it auto-shuts down again.

I had to restore it ... so yeah, backup first.

Going to try it again...

Seems they also wrong bro
It could send MMS w/out need to connect to Edge such SwirlyMMS do
Even with Edge disable via Bossprefs, you can still Receive & Send MMS
Try it yourself smile.gif

I think you guys better check the Data Usage counter if it does goes up. Given that Bossprefs does not really work well at the moment while SBSettings kills all EDGE connections when it's off. You may be charged for all the MMS sent since Bosprefs did not off your EDGE connection.

Yess, it should be charges but what I want to share here is, BossPrefs disable Edge so when open Safari w/out connect to Edge there it no usage but this MMS function automatically send/ receive if there is any(or is it bypass the Edge?). It only connect when you use it..
Something like that..

Hi guys,

i didnt see this forum when i was trying to setup my MMS. i found last night in cydia that there's the installer "ActivateMMS2G". After installing i surf to "www.unlockit.co.nz/#" through my iPhone.

in "Main Menu" i choose "Custom APN" and enter these info following from this thread "http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/659856"

APN: net
username: maxis
password: wap

then i tried sending a picture to a friend, and it works nicely!

this morning i read all about this stuff on how to show APN setting or Cellular Data Network setting in iPhone 2G. tried installing the APN Editting in Cydia and resetting network settings, all failed. there's also a guy said that there's no such setting in the OS 3.0. so i decided not to waste more time trying to make the APN setting visible.

Update:

Finally, i have the "Cellular Data Network" settings visible on my iPhone 2G.. had to follow the steps in here:

http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4271

i believe depending on which carrier you downloaded the settings, it is already set up. if u change carrier(sim card) u will have to re-upload different carrier settings.

Good question..!
I just install Activatemms2g in cydia and it's work.

i tried like that too, it works. but just making sure the APN is correctly configured. maybe because we use maxis, it works just like that. but for other couriers, they need to change the APN setting.

You're wrong on the 2nd part

3GS has different processor and graphics processor. Its a completely new revision of iPhone

iPhone1,1 - iPhone 2G
iPhone1,2 - iPhone 3G
iPhone2,1 - iPhone 3GS

Notice the major product revision has changed. This is to indicate that apple has done major changes in hardware. If it was the same , mainboard and most of the stuff i.e RAM , CPU , graphics processor would be the same

I've configured OS 3.0.

The MMS manages to send.. but when it reaches my friends phone, it says "unable to read msg". I wonder whats wrong... Must the MMS only be from Maxis to Maxis or can it be to another network?

Hmm.. Btw, on the custom APN setting, do we say "Yes" on the V3+MMS box?

DiGi user here, finally after 3 hours of trying, my 2g iphone can send and receive mms (tested kaw kaw)

Sent to a Nokia and received a MMS from a Nokia/Iphone3g too. Works like a magic.

I learn that, firstly u need to be on OS 3.0 , secondly update yr ipcc ( very important or else wont work, for DiGi user your carrier must show DIGI 4.1, under Settings -> General -> About ) Then finally install the "ActivateMMS2G" from cydia and follow the instruction. I did "ssh" follow Method 2 (SSH) on the first post of this thread.

After that finally i restarted the iphone, went to the "Cellular Data Network" KaBoomm the settings all were already there. Didnt disappear.

All the best trying.

the setting did not dissapear is because the ipcc file contains that setting, so it stay put...
even, if u did the reset on the network, the setting will still be there...

Iphone 2G 3.0 firmware after applying patch can send and receive MMS. But can I disable the Edge data connection and MMS still function. If it is OK then I will proceed to upgrade my son's 2G iphone. I do not want to have another RM250/= data bill again sad.gif.

If its on EDGE/GPRS - expect it to be around 30 seconds to 50 seconds (at most a minute or two)

If its on 3G - its around 15-20 seconds

You can disable the Edge via BossPrefs/ SBSetting
The MMS will still works & it only connect to Edge when you use the MMS

i've tested it, my first picture, i forgot that my EDGE(gprs) was enabled... after sending the MMS i checked that my data counter increased. then i disabled my EDGE connection using SBSettings(install in from Cydia), and try sending picture again, this time the data counter did not increased and the picture is also successfully sent.

so in my opinion, you SHOULD disable EDGE connection before sending MMS pictures. because if u enable it, u would have to pay the MMS charge + the data charga for EDGE. am i right?

p/s: my usual way to check EDGE is disabled is by trying to refresh my mail inbox, i will get "Cannot Get Mail" error if my EDGE is off.

3.Go to unlockit.co.nz to DL the SW.
under the sw,
APN:digimms
username:mms
password:mms
carrier:blank
4.Restart iPhone

I tried.But then nothing happened to my iTunes.I'm using macbook.
I key in "default write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE" and press enter.
after that I click iTunes and select,still the same problem happened.

i've tested it, my first picture, i forgot that my EDGE(gprs) was enabled... after sending the MMS i checked that my data counter increased. then i disabled my EDGE connection using SBSettings(install in from Cydia), and try sending picture again, this time the data counter did not increased and the picture is also successfully sent.

so in my opinion, you SHOULD disable EDGE connection before sending MMS pictures. because if u enable it, u would have to pay the MMS charge + the data charga for EDGE. am i right?

p/s: my usual way to check EDGE is disabled is by trying to refresh my mail inbox, i will get "Cannot Get Mail" error if my EDGE is off.
*
No, it is not like that
The patch working differently
No matter how you disable the Edge, it will connect IT when you use the MMS
Ive been monitoring it since yesterday.. smile.gif

Need to use SBSetting to monitor the Edge connection coz, even it connected when you using MMS, you still can't browse Mail/ Safari. Its like working but w/out internet connection.. Something like that..

I don't know how to describe..

yeah, i know that. MMS will use GPRS@EDGE@3G to receive or send pictures. MMS is combination of SMS and WAP technology. now, by enabling your EDGE connection it's like prolonging your use of EDGE, then u have to pay extra.

And I saw at iClarified about how to set a carrier bundle using Terminal... can someone explain to me because I read all the thread in this LYN but still couldn't understand except from what I know, it only change the logo of our carrier. Can brief me more details?

i also dont fully understand its functions. but from my experience, when i configured my Carrier Bundle, my carrier logo is changed from text to a cute logo smile.gif and then my "Cellular Data Network" setting is finally visible in Setting>General>Network.

also with Carrier Bundle, u dont have to configure your APN through "www.unlockit.co.nz/#" because now like i said, the "Cellular Data Network" setting is visible so u can configure the APN from there. i have deleted my APN setting from "www.unlockit.co.nz/#" and my MMS is still working.

well, lucky me I guess because I do not need to set up anything for my APN because after I installed the MMS apps in Cydia, it works like a magic. Anyway, thanks for answering my question

i just tested it again. if the files from LYN is saved as .ipcc and use it in iTunes, that error will appear.

if the file is save as .zip, the extracted file *.ipcc is then used in iTunes, it works.

today i realized, suddenly the mms settings under the "Cellular Data Network" went missing again and my Carrier was 4.1, all out of a sudden. Updated the ipcc file now, n its back to 4.0 and the settings is no longer disappearing.

Weird uh...or maybe the phone is updating the carrier version itself ? could that be possible ?

I tried method one to install mmsfor2g from cydia iSpazio and it did not work for me. I am using Maxis postpaid. Under the General > About, I see maxis 4.0. I am using Iphone 2G.

But under General > Network, the only option I see is Data Roaming, VPN and WiFi. There's no such option as celular data network or APN stuff. However, in my SMS, I do have the camera icon. I tried taking a pic from the SMS software but fail in sending. My bro sent me MMS and i can't view it. Instead I got a msg telling me to log on to website to view it.

Can someone please help. I dont' understand method 2 and 3.

Method 2 (SSH)
1. Using SSH, copy the file mms2g.deb (attached) into iphone folder, for example /var/root
2. Then in same folder (/var/root) in terminal input: dpkg -i mms2g.deb
3. Reboot.

- For method 2, I ssh into my iphone, placed the mms2g.deb file in the folder /var/root. But how do i key in terminal input: dpkg -i mms2g.deb if I am using winscp?

Method 3 (SSH)
1. Extract files from Patch.zip into folders same as arhive.
2. For CommCenter chmod 755.
2. Reboot.

- For method 3, which folder am I suppose to put the zip file? I can't find any folder named archive in my Iphone.

To have the "Cellular Data Network" settings visible on your iPhone 2G, follow the steps in here:

http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4271

Step 1:

check your APN setting after that from this thread http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/659856
im on maxis postpaid and i use these settings:

APN: net
username: maxis
password: wap

then try sending or receive MMS.

Step 2:

if step 1 doesnt work, try configure your APN setting by surfing to "www.unlockit.co.nz/#" through your iPhone.
in "Main Menu" choose "Custom APN"

miskol, I manage to have cellular Data Network option in settings now. However, the settings APN is unet instead of net under the cellular data section and the MMS section. I tried to change the APN from unet to net but eventually only the cellular data section can be changed. The MMS section, the APN, username and password all become blank. Anyone experience this as well?

*
Hi brother..

I just unlock my iphone 2g to FW3.0 and install "ActivateMMS2G" thru ispazio repo. At first I suceed sending and receiving mms even

without doing any settings to the APN or Cellular DATa. I don't understand how it works. But the next day, I try to send and failed...tried tons

of times still the same. Don't understand how I manage to send on the first day. Anyway I came across your post now and you mention

that i need to update IPCC file. How do I do that. Where do I locate this file and how do I modify it? I already have ACTIVEMMS2G installed. Do I

need to remove it first and update ipcc first.

Pls help.

4) go to www.unlockit.co.nz/# again download the software

after the step 5 if still not work follow by step 6

it's normal. MMS require EDGE/GPRS to send or receive MMS. but that doesnt mean u have to enable ur EDGE.

i tried both ways, enable or disable EDGE while sending MMS, both still works. however when enabling EDGE, my data usage used are higher. so why the need of this extra data usage that i have to pay while disabling the EDGE when MMSing still works.

miskol : thanks sharing the tip... more data = more money (unless on unlimited data plan then who cares)

Like for me i am using digi prepaid, their data chargers are just so ridiculous, i very seldom surf on EDGE, but now with the MMS function is working on my 2g, no excuse not to use.

thanks again for sharing the useful tip of turning off EDGE to reduce data usage.

U should follow the majority here who installed thru Cydia, most of them got it to work.

Maybe I should remove the other methods, to avoid any confusion trying to use SSH smile.gif

I can't send MMS... it gets 95% through sending one, and then it stops and gives me a red error icon next to the MMS which when I click on it says "Your message was not sent. Tap 'Try Again' to send this message".

I'm not sure if it's because the settings are wrong, because I uploaded the IPCC from http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/752226 which has worked for others. I also tried editing the carrier.plist file to change the APN from "unet" (which is for 3G I think) to "net", but it made no difference.

Maybe the problem is the person I am sending to, so can someone else try sending me an MMS to 012 282 5895, and I can try sending one back? Thanks!

i myself currently facing the same problem. it happens the moments i learned that even though my MMS works, but my GPRS doesnt work when i enabled the EDGE to test the connection by checking email and using Google Map. since then, i tried many ways to make the GPRS working back again, and changed the APN settings many times.

once i had the GPRS working back again by changing the APN setting for Cellular Data Network(which makes the MMS APN setting becomes all empty), but when trying to send MMS again, i got the red error icon. when i reconfigure back my phone for MMS(by resetting the APN settings), i can send back MMS but the GPRS doesnt work.

anyone able to send/receive MMS and also can surf the web using GPRS? especially if Maxis postpaid user, please share smile.gif

FWIW I'm a Hotlink user, so it may not matter whether pre or postpaid. And I can use EDGE (GPRS), no problems, just not MMS.

Does your Cellular Data Network screen show values in the APN, username and password for both Cellular Data and also MMS? If so, did you use the carrier profile (IPCC) from this site with the carrier logo, or the default Maxis profile from Apple?

Actually I have now made some progress - I have created a modified carrier.plist file so that if you go into the Cellular Data Network settings and click "Reset Settings" then it will fill in all the correct data in all fields. But, that hasn't actually helped. I'm attaching the carrier.plist (remove .txt). I'm not sure how to make this into an IPCC file, so I just used the IPCC file from this site and uploaded the modified carrier.plist using SSH (one trick to watch for is that it's stored in two different places - /System/Library/Carrier Bundles and also /private/var/mobile/Library/Carrier\ Bundles).

some reported working just like, some did not.

if yours worked just like that, then it's good. if not, u'd have to follow the extended steps.

Well, i have gone thru this once.
When booting up, i have about 20-30 seconds to see my data using iPhone Browser, and i use that time frame to backup my contacts and SMS.

I am affraid that's all you can backup with that given time.

There might be other ways, but thats the only one i know.

Ok, after hard trying over a night, I managed to send and received the mms now. Wish to share my experience here:

1. Call Maxis to activate mms sevice
2. Jb & unlock the iPhone 2g with Pwnage 3.0 (Mac)
3. Install activatemms2g from Cydia
4. Enable Carrier Bundle Support via iTunes 8.2 (Mac) (My carrier is Maxis 4.0)
5. Create custom APN setting thru www.unlockit.co.nz/# & install the software (Let everything blank)
6. Go to www.unlockit.co.nz/# again and create a new profile which
APN: net
Username: maxis
Password: wap
(Select 'yes' for V3 + mms)
7. Done!

I able to send and received the mms even I turn off the EDGE in BossPrefs.

Cheerrss..

Hi all...

I just install the activatemms2g from a china website and is pxl file but the carrier change to "china mobile 4.0" previously was "maxis 4.0", I try to send mms but fail, I try the setting in this thread but also fail, do I need to change the carrier bundle"ipcc" ? then only config the setting again? Help pls....
*
1) why did u install from the china website? did u not have cydia installed on your phone?

2) if u use maxis, go here http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/752226 and dload the setting for Maxis.

im still having the same issue, after updating the ipcc file mms works, after a few days the setting automatically goes missing again. have to update the DiGi ipcc file again via itunes. anyone know why ? The network carrier version also changes automatically to 4.1 after updating goes back to 4.0 , all this happens automatically.

Is digi updating it ?

I am using maxis, and patched the ipcc all these....but failed....

i used miskol's way, and successfully send & receive...

What i suspect is the maxis's IPCC that attached in
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/752226
might not usable for all the phone.

the maxis's ipcc that i downloaded, MMS's apn, username and password is always empty, although my phone is not working with this settings, but some people's phone can.... (still unsure about this)

When applied the www.unlockit.co.nz/ setting, it will filled in all the apn, username n password.....same goes for mms setting...

thanks again for Miskol

no problem ys_2k. i believe using the custom APN downloaded from www.unlockit.co.nz is the easiest simplest sure work way. i think so.

using the IPCC way, it's kind of an on off thing. sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. mine is like that, but now it works back again after i copied the IPCC setting and paste it in my phone, followed the guide from http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/752226

i still want to use the IPCC setup is just because i want to keep that cute maxis logo wink.gif

My iphone battery life has decreased rapidly ever since upgrade to OS 3.0 . I do not know if MMS is causing it. Will try turn MMS off, to see if is the culprit.

I got no problem with the battery life.

However I still cant send and receive MMS (DiGi User).
When I received MMS, it only in text and a link to view the MMS.
Already call DiGi to confirm I already activated GPRS and MMS.

Already tried using the unlock.it method and ipsc. Both successfully put the MMS setting.
Still, I cant send MMS,

Iphone 2G user.

mms charge i think is 0.50 for each...
but the price is not inclusive of data transfer...

For example, if you sending a picture which is 300kb, each data rate for GPRS is 1kb for RM0.01, meaning it would be totally RM3.50.

and when you receiving it, u also paying RM3.00 to receive the 300kb image.

pls correct me if i m wrong.

well for what i heard from a maxis customer service rep is that they do not charge for data if u send MMS, they only charge you flat rate for the MMS, there is a limit of 300kb for MMS. I am not sure.

If I am not mistaken if receive MMS they charge or not. Quite confusing and they are not very direct on this matter. Need to investigate further.

How to enable MMS on your iPhone2G:
(copied from my tumbs since someone told me not to direct the solution to my tumblr...)
(here's the solution to help those who are still at a lost...)

Yes, it is now possible to send MMS on your (old) iPhone2G and not feel left out.

The author Geniusan produced a Cydia package “ActivateMMS2G” for iPhone2G.

No, its not for iPhone3G -which should be able to send MMS on the current OS3.0.

Instructions for iPhone2G owners:

What you need is:

* OS3.0 downloaded
* Jailbroken & Cydia installed
* ActivateMMS2G installed

1.Once you downloaded ActivateMMS2G, restart the iphone.

2.On your iphone Safari, goto http://help.benm.at and select the 2nd Mobileconfigs - which is a generator for your configurations.

3. Enter - if you are on DIGI:

DiGi MMS Setting

* APN: digimms
* User Name: mms
* Password: mms

4. Install the configurations and then immediate REBOOT. This is where most people mess up. They just RESTART the iphone, and not REBOOT. To Reboot, you need to hold HOME and Power button together until the APPLE comes back out again.

5. Then go to Settings/General/Network/Cellular Data Network/ and see if the APN is now filled with “digimms” and then enter the MMSC and MMS proxy values .

* MMSC: http://mms.digi.com.my/servlets/mms
* MMS proxy: 203.092.128.160

6. Leave the MMS Max file size - blank and MMS UA Prof URL blank.

7. Change the Cellular Data - APN, Username and Password to:

* APN: diginet
* Username: -blank-
* Password: -blank-

8. Go to Settings/Messages/ and turn on MMS.

9. Now u can send MMS on DiGi with your iphone!

These tips are found from trial and error and believe me, I have read many sites and forums and none is helpful enough to point the problems and be clear enough especially the REBOOT part!

Now, my pals at work can stop slagging me that my iphone is so obsolette that it can’t send MMS. LOL.

Obviously it needs EDGE/GPRS. It needs some sort of internet connection in other words !

MMS is generally e-mail on the go for mobile phones biggrin.gif (whereby you're allowed to attach files)

I removed the ActivateMMS2G and settings, fully charge iphone this morning ( about 8:00am). At the moment (4:20 pm) it is still 100%. Yep, I think is the ActivateMMS2G, gobbling CPU cycles which burn battery power. Monitor further how it goes...

Hi,

I have a 3G and after reading this I just turn off MMS and will monitor if MMS is the cause of battery drain also for iPhone 3G. MMS is not important to me.

Cheers.

Yup, i also face this issue,i m DIGI user and i upgrade the ipcc file, after few days, i notice that the setting gone and i need manually update again in order to send mms. Just iphone 2G face this issue, my iphone 3G no problem.

I dont face any battery drain issue on 2G and 3G iphone. I just notice my iphone drain battery when i use tethering via bluetooth only.

do u have mobile terminal install in ur iphone?...if dun...u need to download it first in cydia....after that u can use winscp or ifunbox to place the deb files. put in root > private > var > mobile

in terminal u just type
mobile$ : su (press return)
password: alpine(there will be no word when typing password and press return)

and then type this

dpkg -i mms2g.deb

How to enable MMS on your iPhone2G:
(copied from my tumbs since someone told me not to direct the solution to my tumblr...)
(here's the solution to help those who are still at a lost...)

Yes, it is now possible to send MMS on your (old) iPhone2G and not feel left out.

The author Geniusan produced a Cydia package “ActivateMMS2G” for iPhone2G.

No, its not for iPhone3G -which should be able to send MMS on the current OS3.0.

Instructions for iPhone2G owners:

What you need is:

    * OS3.0 downloaded
    * Jailbroken & Cydia installed
    * ActivateMMS2G installed

    * APN: digimms
    * User Name: mms
    * Password: mms

    * MMSC: http://mms.digi.com.my/servlets/mms
    * MMS proxy: 203.092.128.160

6. Leave the MMS Max file size - blank and MMS UA Prof URL blank.

7. Change the Cellular Data - APN, Username and Password to:

    * APN: diginet
    * Username: -blank-
    * Password: -blank-

LOL.

Congrats bro... Well documented... thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

You need "net" not "unet" for 2G. However, having said that, it still doesn't work for me with those settings.

There must be something wrong with your apn network settings. Do check previous pages, on how to meddle with it. Also, which service provider are you on?

Here my fix.. This is for 3.1.3

To replace the CommCenter, navigate to /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CoreTelephony.framework/Support

and paste in the new CommCenter file.
***THIS IS IMPORTANT***
With iFile on your phone or via SSH set the CommCenter file to

Owner: root
Group: wheel

permissions:
user: Read/Write/Execute
Group: Read/Execute
World: Read/Execute

That is 0755 permissions guys... And i Resest all setting after i replace the file.. Works fine for me...
