QUOTE(Syd G @ Jun 21 2009, 11:24 AM) I called DA just now to convert my spankin new Macbook Pro i think just leave the ASB alone and pay by installment...3% interest for CC against 10% insterest for ASB...Smart Flexi-Pay 0% is only applicable to pay for hospital, insurance or education. For the rest, package goes like this : 3% upfront for 10 months installment 5% upfront for 20 months installment What do u guys think? I hv cash for full payment in my ASB account. |

QUOTE(hye @ Jun 21 2009, 11:36 AM) Congrats on yr new Macbook! I'm slightly green with envy. For me, if i have the cash to pay if off, I would rather swipe my card to earn points, then only make full payment back to the card.Better to pay it off with cash if you have it. Better not to start having this debt positions. |

Oh yes ... that is what I mean actually. Use card for the purchase and then pay it off in full when the statement comes. Actually it is beneficial to use cash back cards for large purchases ... you actually get an "indirect" discount! |

@Shinichi,
That's exactly what we all mean! @arsenal, In this case, it is NOT 0%. Personally I prefer to pay cash instead of going for instalment plans; that's like cheating urself! kEKekkeke This post has been edited by tinkerbel: Jun 21 2009, 02:46 PM |

they're charging 3% upfront. fd yields less than that. asb aint 10%, i'll put it conservatively at around 6% or so |

QUOTE(Syd G @ Jun 21 2009, 11:24 AM) I called DA just now to convert my spankin new Macbook Pro You need to find out what are the terms and conditions of payment. And if it will affect your monthly statement's billing.Smart Flexi-Pay 0% is only applicable to pay for hospital, insurance or education. For the rest, package goes like this : 3% upfront for 10 months installment 5% upfront for 20 months installment What do u guys think? I hv cash for full payment in my ASB account. In general, you can say interest for 10 months is 3.6%pa. So, if you ASB yields a higher interest than that, then it is more profitable for you to take the flexi plan. But you must be confident in your own discipline to be able to make payments on time. Late payments are usually punished severely in these cases. |

QUOTE(DarReNz @ Jun 21 2009, 05:04 PM) HSBC does not give automatic AF ... period. The agent or CS may tell you something else but if you noticed, it is not stated in B&W in their website. Means it is up to the bank's discreation. Honestly I don't think it is problem to get the AF waived if your payments are good and spend genereously. Some guys may say they are lazy to give the bank a call but what is a 5 mins call (about RM1.50 or less) which will save you at least RM80. (Depending on what care you hold)Added on June 21, 2009, 5:56 pm QUOTE(elhh82 @ Jun 21 2009, 05:31 PM) You need to find out what are the terms and conditions of payment. In general, you can say interest for 10 months is 3.6%pa. So, if you ASB yields a higher interest than that, then it is more profitable for you to take the flexi plan. But you must be confident in your own discipline to be able to make payments on time. Late payments are usually punished severely in these cases. So you'll end up spending into something you don't really need just spur of the moment. Like you said, it requires self discipline and if you don't have it then don't tempt yourself unnecessarily. @arsenal,
Er.. no I wouldn't equate it with forced savings; that's more like EPF @Syd G, Are U eligible for FOC Snow Leopard upgrade then?! Anyhow, I'm quite sure U'll have no regrets on the MBP purchase of urs. I switched from Windows to Mac in Jan 2007 and have never looked back since |

Not FOC, have to pay some for S&H. But that's ok. I've waited 5 years for one Am currently using Ubuntu Linux so the transition wont be as drastic as Win -> Mac. I desperately need a new laptop since this one is 4 years old dy. While I'm at it, might as well get a Mac that I've been dreaming about #all I think I'll pay them off. I take pride in buying my consumables in cash (well, swipe first, pay full later - collect points in the process |

@Syd G,
I believe you're making the right choice in paying full when the statement comes. As to the MBP, go ahead and enjoy it |

Do any of you guys ever experienced a faulty chip with your credit card(s) ? My 15-month old CIMB Mastercard has recently gone dead and i am pretty sure it is due to faulty chip. The credit card processing terminal can't no longer detect the card. As far as i know, most banks are charging RM50 for every card replacement and according to CIMB, the first one is RM10 then subsequent replacement (includes misplaced or stolen) is RM50. Do i need to go to a nearest CIMB Bank branch to get a replacement or just by calling them up will do ? And is there a way to get them waived the card replacement fee ? Thanks in advance

They might give free replacement this way.If not might as well cancel the card then apply again... |

But redeem all the points first before you cancel the card.If not might as well cancel the card then apply again... MilesAndMore: i guess you can call up CS and inform them that you want to use the card but it is defective, so how to use? Ask for waiver as the card was not misplaced nor stolen and if they still insist on you paying the RM10, then you got to decide you still want to give them business for charging you something that is no fault of yours.
