In that case, you have a point to bring the case up. Check if any very fine-prints or T&C (in the undelivered CC mail) that states if user did not activate within 7-14 days, it will automatic activate.

I'm a freelance contractor in PC services. On September last year 2008 since I was retrenched, my wife lent me her credit card for daily use such as buying petrol etc so I can find business to cover our expenses. Before the card is given to me, her payment is doing good as she planned well to clear the amount she spent.

However, after I used it for 3 months, the card is blocked due to bad payment, it is my fault. I didn't manage well to pay the minimum charges on time and I always delay it. Currently the debt is cleared on March 2009 and it's been 5-7 months since the card being blocked. We have tried every method by calling to c/card centre, or write-in to Maybank but what we get is bad news. At last even my wife giving up applying Maybank c/card, tend to switch to other bank and surprisingly the application is rejected too due to the bad record.

Any1 here can help me on this matter? My wife remains 2 cards now which is from RHB and UOB, she could not apply new cards anymore. It's not her fault and I'm willing to take all the responsibility, hoping she could get another chance to continue using the Maybank c/card so are the others. I'm looking forward to any of the kind and professional friends around here to offer me your help or opinions. Thank you and really appreciated..!!!

You can ignore this request. Our bank accounts held with other banks are private and confidential. So far only Maybank always request for our bank account statement held with other bank and my mom always ignore it. And still they approved her application everytime (she had applied for 3 different credit cards/charge card from Maybank in the last 1 year).


Public Bank still do (for its savings account). So does Standard Chartered Bank (regular savings account).


Have checked all the details they sent to us. No fine-prints about automatic activation after certain days. Anyway, even if there is a rule about automatic activation, how can the cards be activated since we haven't even received the card yet ? It looks to me Hong Leong Bank is forcing us to use their cards But i can confirm that there is no mention of automatic activation in all the letters they sent to us.

Unfortunately, I can say nothing else but bad news to your case. You should have been more careful and responsible for your wife cc payments, period. The bad record is unfortunately irrepairable as this little incident will marked permanently in your wife's financial records that is shared across all banks. Your wife will find it difficult if not impossible to apply loans, cc or any financial products from all banks in Malaysia.

I do not mean to be mean but you have effectively destroyed your wife's financial records and made her "blacklisted/warning" in all banks in Malaysia. Please be more responsible in the future irrespective whatever reasons that you may have especially when it comes to dealing with banks.

Since you have made full payment.
- Report this to AKPK/BNM. (Both agency ... not either or) AKPK/BNM will assist you in obtaining a letter from the bank saying that you have made payment to your debt. However, please bear in mind that the record of bad payments will not go away.
- From hereon, always make prompt payments for anything at all and careful not accumulate debts as your risk ratio will go higher. This will eventually form a new financial historical history and you will be in a better position in 1 year from now. Why 1 year ? ... Coz that's is the minimum period that banks will evaluate your financial history.
- Forget about the MBB card. If it is already paid off but bank remain stubborn to unblock it, forget it and just use UOB and RHB card. I don't blame the bank if they are now scared of you and now do not want you as their customer anymore. I mean if you were the bank then wouldn't you be worried having a delinquent customer as well ?
- In future whenever you apply for loans / cc / financial products, you need to attach this letter.

I hope there's lessons learnt here for yourself and your wife to be more responsible for your debts ... especially cc debts where you are using the banks money for your spendings. Apologies for my honest words.

I was in a bit similiar situation before. I apply and received CC from a very orange bank. I feel like don't want to use it and did not activate it. Two weeks later, the CS called and informed me, activated 1-year later canceled it.

Perhaps in your case, call up the CS to ask for waiver and try to swipe X times for 1 yr waiver. Else, inform them about not receiving the card and terminate it with waiver.

The orange bank we were talking a while ago ? But at least EON Bank had the courtesy to call you to inform you that your card's been activated


Thanks for the advice. Anyway, we went to a Hong Leong Bank branch just now. A customer service personnel called their credit card centre in KL. She told the guy on the phone about my mom's situation. Then the guy request to speak to my mom directly. The conversation was something like below :

Hong Leong : How much is your combined credit limit ?
Mom : RMxxx
Hong Leong : Okay, so we already charged you RM160 for each card. But you do not have to pay the annual fee now. No interest will be charged either even after this month's due date. I will mail the card out by this afternoon.
Mom : No. No. I do not want the cards. And why do you charge me the annual fee ? I haven't activated the cards yet !
Hong Leong : Yes. But when you applied for the card, our agent already told you about the minimum swipes.
Mom : Yes. I Know. But i haven't received the card. How can you simply charge me the annual fee. I do not want the cards.
Hong Leong : Ok. Here is what we're going to do now. I will give you an additional RM5400 of credit line.
Mom : RM5400 ? No. I don't want.
Hong Leong : Never mind. I will give you the additional credit line. I will also waive your annual fee for both your VISA Gold and Gold Mastercard. Once you receive the cards, charge whatever amount to each card twice within 45 days. Then the annual fee will be automatically waived.
Mom : Ah ? Must do like that ah ?
Hong Leong : Yes. Swipe twice on each card in 45 days then no need to pay for the annual fee.
Mom : Ok lah.

He promised my mom to change the fee waiver rule. Now the annual fee will be waived for both cards once my mom swipe twice on each card in 45 days. We shall find out what happens next in about a month time.

I received a Eon matta card last few months. but i totally forgot that i have this card before. Recently i just remember i have this card. but i cannot find this card any more (i have not activate the card yet). what can i do? will i get penalty if i ask for replacement card? do i need to report to police?

Most people will bring US Dollar. I always have some US Dollar with me whenever i am going overseas, be it to Jakarta or Hong Kong.


I think you can do that with VISA debit card and debit Mastercard but not with credit card. Whatever money is drawn from your credit card account will be automatically treated as cash advance.

Did you know that some of your locally issued ATM card such as the CIMB Bank ATM card, which has the "Cirrus" logo on the back can be use to withdraw cash at overseas ATM that is "Cirrus" supported ? Another type of ATM card is on the "Plus" network, which is essentially referring to VISA as "Plus" is actually part of VISA. HSBC regular banking customer's ATM card has the "Plus" logo behind.

Just to add to what already been mentioned, I believe loading it up to your ATM is good if the country's banking infrastructure is good. Plus not to mention that the exchange rate @ the ATM is probably better than your money changer back home. I can personally vouch for this.

However there will be cases where you have no option but to carry loads of cash simply because the banking system on the other side is bad / minimal or even they simply do not accept credit card. Eg. Try to do some travelling to Myanmmar or to some parts of the old Russian Republic and you'll see what I mean.

Huh ? Your annual gross salary is less than RM18,000 ? Then you are not qualified for HSBC classic credit card either. In fact, if your annual gross salary is less than RM18,000, then you are not qualified for any credit card in Malaysia.

The other way to get a credit card is to pledge by Time Deposit (Fixed Deposit - FD). Among the banks that offer this are :
- Public Bank (RM10,000 of TD will get RM10,000 of CL)
- AmBank (RM10,000 of TD will get RM10,000 of CL)
- HSBC (RM10,000 of TD will get only RM8,000 of CL)

I think you can also try with RM5000 with local banks.

Well,my gross salary is more than RM 18,000. If not I won't be holding 3 credit card for 2 bank now. I'm holding 1 CIMB Classic CC and 1 CIMB Petronoas CC and 1 Hong Leong Bank CC. But those sales girl look like don't like me. Say the citibank need ppl basic income around RM 1,500. Last time the HOng Leong Bank staff also told me the same thing but I straight went to the HQ and do it. Wahah .. it done .. Think I have to go Citibank HQ to have a look if I really want their card

Why not you call banks directly to apply? Don't know about other banks, but Standard Chartered sent their boy to pick up my docs and let me sign the forms. I never had to step out of the office.
