Indeed, it is very hard and scary, I actually cried on the spot when I saw the place, may be I'm too weak to see that. For the time being, I don't know when will this mission end, I just hope I can do as much as I can for the poor dogs, just wish to get them out of there for the time being. If you are free, contact TV immediately!! They need a lot of help! Even donation also will be good. I'm lucky as I managed to raise up enough of funds from friends and team members to cover the cost for everything.

i've actually contacted sabrina yesterday... but till now no reply i shall cc to tv and see coz we are still in dark as what we can provide and what other costs involved... as of now i can get a van/those four wheel truck, food, cage over... most prob will be asking around for more donations plus supplies from pet shops... (else a discount will do)

most importantly is what are the costs so that we can estimates and also what supplies are necessary. Thanks so much for your help.

Guys, instead of every other person contacting Sabrina or TV Smith, please post whatever help you guys can provide in here and let 1 or 2 person do the calling. It'll be very confusing to both of them if different ppl calls in to offer help and etc. Everyone please work together for the dogs' sake.

Thanks

Get vet!!! Because those dogs need medical treatment from vet, so better get some for them. For my cost actually quite high, because we rent a bus but got discount la because I know the owner mah, but haven't come to conclusion for the price yet as I'm not sure I will be using the bus until when. Then cages I got 10 but all are contribution from the members as most of us are animal lovers, we have cages so just bring ours lo; as for the boats, we rented and really a big bomb, it costs us up to RM2500 with discounted price for today sweat.gif

As for dog foods, I've got people to donate around 200kg of dog's food, so I'm not sure the exact cost. What else? As for vet's fee, I've got friends who are vet, so foc tongue.gif As for gloves and other things, also contribution from the members. I'm lucky because I manage to get people to donate, and contribute.

Actually, the most costly part will be the boats, vet's fees, and dog foods, others I think are still alright, also the land transport to transport the dogs. Well, just try your best to help them.

Actually this is the first time I got on to a boat, this is also my worst experience in doing charity, the ever first time I'm so scared and screaming and crying like hell. May be because of the snakes, I'm actually very scared of snakes.

Agree, just post up here whatever you can do and provide, even if you are free to go for the rescue campaign, let us know the dates, once everything stated out clearly, it will lighten up their work too. I can pass to Sabrina and TV since I'm in contact with them.

No matter what it is, no matter you know me or knowing whoever, we have the same goal in this mission, that's to save the dogs. Why want to bother who to work with or who to talk to? Even we went there to work in a team, but when we meet others, we work together, it's not important at all do we know them or not, the most important thing is, able to save as many survivors as we can.

Well, I've never use my own name for any charity work, even Sabrina will not know who is skysherly because skysherly is only a nick of mine in the forum, but never appear in my charity work.

hi there... from what you said here.. i think the cost is extremely high.. and the effectiveness is very very low.. ie: per trip caught bout 1-2 dogs or in sabrina case 6 dogs.. somehow there's got to be other more effective ways to catch them????

alrite i will take a note and most prob contact you / adrian again instead of 'kacau-ing' tv and sabrina...

That is exactly the reason why we are holding off the Pulau Ketam visit this weekend and discuss the best way to handle the rescue mission with Sabrina. I know everyone have the best intentions but better prepare carefully so that every trip made to rescue the dogs are not in vain. Anyone interested in joining us at FFF this weekend or for next weekend's Pulau Ketam mission, please post here. The committee will take note of those of you guys that's joining.

Don't get too excited first. As mentioned, careful planning is required. Sabrina and TV Smith are working very hard to rescue the dogs at Hell Island, so don't bombard them with calls/emails at the moment. The Pulau Ketam dogs are not in serious condition as the ones at Hell Island, so there is still time for us plan the next step. Anyone who have any ideas to contribute on how to trap the dogs (to get them off the island), kindly post their ideas here. Thank you!

As mentioend, one of the ideas I can think of is to use fishing nets. Another idea is to ask villagers to help us catch the dogs <-- might not work coz some of them might expect monetary reward. Anyway, feel free to contribute ideas please.

My contribution, as per discussed with Adrian on MSN.

Initially, I wanted to buy as many cages as possible, however, the cost for a cage is not cheap, it is out of my budget.

However, I was inspired by this photo,

I read about you guys blogs and feedbacks, it seems that the area at Pulau Ketam / Pulat Tengah is harsh and not easy to deal with. Muddy, dirty, broken nails & kayu, trash, poisonous reptiles, bones (omg) etc etc. Therefore, I believe you guys need a safety foot wear to protect yourself.

Yup, the yellow safety boots!

I will contribute 10 pairs of Safety Boots (since my company is selling it, so I am able to buy it at a good/staff price).

Will get the sizes from Adrian. We have ready stock for shoes size 4, 5, 6, 7.

QUOTE(skysherly @ May 12 2009, 05:04 PM)
Finally I'm back and can't wait to share.

We arrived the place at around 9 in the morning. We were separated into few boats to work together in getting the dogs, but seriously look at the place by myself, I couldn't hold my tears at all, not only me but quite a number from my members too. Why? Because it is really like a hell island, it looks so scary! It looks so pitiful for those dogs.

See, there's no place for anyone to stand on at all, whole island full with branches and trees, there are also a lot of poison snakes, eagles, and bones!!! Dead dogs around every where, from the boats we could hear the dogs barking, I guess they are barking for help, they are also in an urge to get out from that hell island.

Long story cut short, we tried many ways to get hold of the dogs but seriously couldn't. There are some dogs get stuck in the branches, we can't reach them. Most important, they ran very fast when they saw us. Pity them. We used food to make them come out but many times also they manage to run off. Luckily we manage to catch a puppy but with the price of a cut on one of the member's hand and I dropped my sun glasses. Well, overall, worth it!

We make a mistake for didn't carry enough of water with us, we ran out of water by noon, well we thought per person with 3 litres of water will do but who knows the weather is killing us! So we had no choice but to call it off earlier for today. We are going to set up traps to get hold of the dogs, as well we will be bringing some weapons with us such as parang, because of those blardy branches block our way. We do carry some big pieces of wood too so we use it to place on the boats and the branches, we could walk on it but it is very dangerous too. Actually this is not advisable but no problem la, do it quietly lo.

Anyway, the female puppy we manage to get by today was given a name -Gigi. It's because when we got her, she was shivering, like the sound of gi gi gi gi gi gi like that,so just name her Gigi. One of the member saw her so cute and decided to take her home, now she is with the vet I think.

I'm so tired , even this sound like nothing much for many people, even I have never thought it would be this tiring and exhausted but seriously, it's like killing. Not only physically but also mentally. Imagine those carcasses, dead dogs, skeletons around the mangrove shore, that island really deserved the name of "hell". Seriously it's a very scary nightmare.

Guess, that's all in my mind right now, really can't think of anything.

Such a tiring job, but all worth if when u managed to save even a dog.. But i hope more will be rescued soon...

I myself cried when saw all the photos in all forum and websites i visited cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif OMG cant believe how many weeping souls on that island.

Please take precaution and take a good care of u guys safety during the rescue mission. My pray will always be with u guys nod.gif *hugs**

Guys, dont forget to put on cap and boots and gloves. And dun forget to drink a lot of water (which means bring along a big drinking water). Dont fall sick after the mission due to dehydration. Now weather is very very bad.

i've called Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better Project and told her (don't know who's behind the phone, really) about our campaign. As we are still at planning stage and alot of stuff haven't confirm yet,she can't promise us to take in the dogs yet. But what she said is,first thing right after we get the dogs,we have to send them to vet clinics to check their condition, spray and neuter them before we can send them into any canine farms including Sabrina's FFF. But she said can help us to contact those farms after we have put the vets check. She also said there are few vet clinics in Klang.

So, not to worry bout where to send those dogs first, but anyone know any good vets~?

And I've think across few items that are needed for the rescue mission on p.ketam:
1.dog cages and dog food (of cuz)
2.torch light (as under the houses were dark, hard to spot dogs that hiding under houses)
3.boots- thx to panasonic88
4.water

Any more to add up maybe in the future.

hi chibi tenko.. you are right.. i will discuss this with my fren again. she's too eager to go to pulau ketam to help.. whereas i say that the cost is high for just a few people to go there - in the end do nothing and just help pulau ketam tourism (food, lodgings, boat)..

anyhow once i confirm will lias with you..

p/s: one of the things we can provide is a van.. transport human or dogs ... biggrin.gif

Try Dr Loh from Scarrfff Project 012-2023794, area Kota Kemuning. My geography is sucks. Does it near and easy for u guys to send the dogs there? Maybe shud try to give her a call first and ask. My fren said Dr Loh has been care a lot of stray dogs in her clinic. I hope there's a vet who willing to treat the dog and charge for the meds and treatment only.
