Hey Adrian,

Good luck with your campaign, I will be going to Pulau Ketam tomorrow onwards till Friday. Hopefully Saturday I can arrange my schedule to go in and meet you there.

Anyway, you may let me know if you need any help, I have already get everything well prepared for tomorrow dog rescue mission. Where are you sending the dogs to? I've got 12 people to adopt the dogs but it has to depends on the dogs' condition too, hopefully to get them a nice place.

All the best smile.gif

Let's workout something if u n your team would be there....

u can anytime msn me n then we could discuss further, and if permits, we combine up and work as a team here.
*
Contact me when you are there, I have enough of manpower and equipments ready with me here. Don't think I have time to MSN at this point of time, because we are leaving tomorrow early morning to go there, but if you need any help you can always drop me a message.

I will suggest you to not just study about the place but as well get some people who are great with animals with you, they will know how to take care of the dogs, secondly, bring more dog's food too. How many cages have you get? Do you have contact with any vet for the dogs? In case you manage to catch some, send them to the vet for check up first.

Anyway, you are only going on Saturday which on the day I have other event, I might or might not be there on Saturday. Due to my pack schedule I have no choice but only to do it on weekdays, well on leave mah, who cares? A life is more important than the money.

good luck in your mission then

Thank you.

If you need any help, you are welcome to drop me a message. This team that I'm bringing in with me to the island is a great team and all of them are great in dealing with animals, that's why I pick them. Even though most of them are at the mid 30s but they are really great in contributing their help.

Perhaps I might update you here when I am back tomorrow night if I have time, or I will get someone to update you about it, it might be useful to you. Anyway, if my 200kg of dog foods not finishing in this few days, I will arrange to pass it to you, you might be able to use it, also for other equipments. smile.gif

skysherly.. are you on a mission for the dogs in pulau ketam itself or those abandoned dogs in pulau tengah and other small island?
*
I am bringing about 30++ people, we are going to separate to two teams to work on Pulau Ketam and Pulau Tengah.
If let say Sabrina needs more help from me, I don't mind to shift a team for her, or even get another team for her, since she knows me (my dharma name). tongue.gif

Skysherly, does Sabrina require help over at Pulau Tengah or even at her farm? I think the urgency is to save those stranded at the cluster of Hell Islands rather than those at Pulau Ketam itself. Since Adrian have spoken to the village head, we've managed to buy some time for those dogs. I'm very worried for the weaker and smaller dogs trapped at Pulau Tengah.

Anyone here have access to fishing nets? If we can't grab the dogs, worse scenario is that we use fishing nets to catch them (if they're near the shore where there's not much trees + branches)

Added you. See you tonight at 9pm

She needs a lot of help at Pulau Tengah and her farm too. It is obvious that the sooner we can get rid of those dogs in that hell island will be better. The worst condition is actually in Pulau Tengah, not Pulau Ketam, thus we will pay most attention in Pulau Tengah first. I might even organize a trip to help her out in her farm during one of the Sundays.

I do strongly disagree to put the dogs with SPCA, what is the point of getting them out there and sending them to another place where they will also have high chance being put to sleep later on. They might be able to live even longer.

Yes, one of the equipment you need is fishing net, just in case you really can't get hold of any of the dog, you need to set up some nice traps to get them but not those hurtful traps.

Anyway, just try our best to save as many as we can. smile.gif

Finally I'm back and can't wait to share.

We arrived the place at around 9 in the morning. We were separated into few boats to work together in getting the dogs, but seriously look at the place by myself, I couldn't hold my tears at all, not only me but quite a number from my members too. Why? Because it is really like a hell island, it looks so scary! It looks so pitiful for those dogs.

See, there's no place for anyone to stand on at all, whole island full with branches and trees, there are also a lot of poison snakes, eagles, and bones!!! Dead dogs around every where, from the boats we could hear the dogs barking, I guess they are barking for help, they are also in an urge to get out from that hell island.

Long story cut short, we tried many ways to get hold of the dogs but seriously couldn't. There are some dogs get stuck in the branches, we can't reach them. Most important, they ran very fast when they saw us. Pity them. We used food to make them come out but many times also they manage to run off. Luckily we manage to catch a puppy but with the price of a cut on one of the member's hand and I dropped my sun glasses. Well, overall, worth it!

We make a mistake for didn't carry enough of water with us, we ran out of water by noon, well we thought per person with 3 litres of water will do but who knows the weather is killing us! So we had no choice but to call it off earlier for today. We are going to set up traps to get hold of the dogs, as well we will be bringing some weapons with us such as parang, because of those blardy branches block our way. We do carry some big pieces of wood too so we use it to place on the boats and the branches, we could walk on it but it is very dangerous too. Actually this is not advisable but no problem la, do it quietly lo.

Anyway, the female puppy we manage to get by today was given a name -Gigi. It's because when we got her, she was shivering, like the sound of gi gi gi gi gi gi like that,so just name her Gigi. One of the member saw her so cute and decided to take her home, now she is with the vet I think.

I'm so tired , even this sound like nothing much for many people, even I have never thought it would be this tiring and exhausted but seriously, it's like killing. Not only physically but also mentally. Imagine those carcasses, dead dogs, skeletons around the mangrove shore, that island really deserved the name of "hell". Seriously it's a very scary nightmare.

Guess, that's all in my mind right now, really can't think of anything.

hi skysherley,

from your description it does sounds hard and scary. may i know when is your rescue mission ending? what else you guys will need because me and my fren is hoping to contribute and also help out in any ways we possibly can. so far i've managed to get some donations already..
*
Indeed, it is very hard and scary, I actually cried on the spot when I saw the place, may be I'm too weak to see that. For the time being, I don't know when will this mission end, I just hope I can do as much as I can for the poor dogs, just wish to get them out of there for the time being. If you are free, contact TV immediately!! They need a lot of help! Even donation also will be good. I'm lucky as I managed to raise up enough of funds from friends and team members to cover the cost for everything.

i've actually contacted sabrina yesterday... but till now no reply i shall cc to tv and see coz we are still in dark as what we can provide and what other costs involved... as of now i can get a van/those four wheel truck, food, cage over... most prob will be asking around for more donations plus supplies from pet shops... (else a discount will do)

most importantly is what are the costs so that we can estimates and also what supplies are necessary. Thanks so much for your help.
*
Get vet!!! Because those dogs need medical treatment from vet, so better get some for them. For my cost actually quite high, because we rent a bus but got discount la because I know the owner mah, but haven't come to conclusion for the price yet as I'm not sure I will be using the bus until when. Then cages I got 10 but all are contribution from the members as most of us are animal lovers, we have cages so just bring ours lo; as for the boats, we rented and really a big bomb, it costs us up to RM2500 with discounted price for today sweat.gif

As for dog foods, I've got people to donate around 200kg of dog's food, so I'm not sure the exact cost. What else? As for vet's fee, I've got friends who are vet, so foc tongue.gif As for gloves and other things, also contribution from the members. I'm lucky because I manage to get people to donate, and contribute.

Actually, the most costly part will be the boats, vet's fees, and dog foods, others I think are still alright, also the land transport to transport the dogs. Well, just try your best to help them.

Actually this is the first time I got on to a boat, this is also my worst experience in doing charity, the ever first time I'm so scared and screaming and crying like hell. May be because of the snakes, I'm actually very scared of snakes.

Guys, instead of every other person contacting Sabrina or TV Smith, please post whatever help you guys can provide in here and let 1 or 2 person do the calling. It'll be very confusing to both of them if different ppl calls in to offer help and etc. Everyone please work together for the dogs' sake.

Thanks
*
Agree, just post up here whatever you can do and provide, even if you are free to go for the rescue campaign, let us know the dates, once everything stated out clearly, it will lighten up their work too. I can pass to Sabrina and TV since I'm in contact with them.

No matter what it is, no matter you know me or knowing whoever, we have the same goal in this mission, that's to save the dogs. Why want to bother who to work with or who to talk to? Even we went there to work in a team, but when we meet others, we work together, it's not important at all do we know them or not, the most important thing is, able to save as many survivors as we can.

Well, I've never use my own name for any charity work, even Sabrina will not know who is skysherly because skysherly is only a nick of mine in the forum, but never appear in my charity work.

Guys, dont forget to put on cap and boots and gloves. And dun forget to drink a lot of water (which means bring along a big drinking water). Dont fall sick after the mission due to dehydration. Now weather is very very bad.

Just rush back to KL, because I'm having something to do later, thus got to rush back. We departed very early today, at 5.30am. We arrived and tried our best to do whatever we can to save the dogs, luckily today we manage to get 3 dogs!!! They are Franky, Bobo and Bibi. 2 female and 1 male but Franky's leg is injured, and Bobo and Bibi both are having some scars on their body, thus now they are with the vet to do some treatment before the members take them home.

QUOTE(sailou @ May 14 2009, 03:32 PM)
I was actually wondering if she was mentioning sherly's team. If she is then she made a mistake cos to be fair sherly funded their own operation and they did saved some dogs. And for those who really hopped on to a boat for only a sightseeing to Pulau Tengah, they deserved to be bitten by a snake.
*
Thank you very much. Don't worry as my team have only four girls inclusive of me. The other three are nurses as I requested them to come along in helping for medication helps for the members. I've worked very hard to get the funds for this trip, it's never easy to raise funds, especially in charity. My members did a lot of contribution and I'm so thankful to some of my friends who did not manage to join in for the trip yet they've done a large contribution to make this work.

QUOTE(verx @ May 14 2009, 03:52 PM)
Sherly's team (she has about 35 ppl including vets and doctors) fund their own operations. Sherly is also in regular contact with Sabrina to update her on how many she has saved. Pummkin was mentioning some other reckless individuals.
*
I'm on a daily contact with Sabrina.

QUOTE(adrianck @ May 14 2009, 03:54 PM)
whatever is it, too many make conclusion without checking the right facts... which in here this case, i leave to all to judge, as i do not like to comment what others are doing.

too many want to go pulau tengah, everyone wanna piece of actions and i really don't encourage this, if u have so much to spend, without ever really helping the strays stranded there, i suggest better if put the money to good use, give it to TV Smith n Sabrina then... they needed them alot than getting fame for yourself.
*
Well, no one knows if everyone wanna piece of actions, there are a lot who are very keen in helping and willingly to help too, but of course there are some black sheep around.

QUOTE(verx @ May 14 2009, 04:58 PM)
Agreed. If you don't have the capacity to help save any of the dogs there (which means not only extracting them but also what to do with them after extracting them) you're better off just sitting at home and donating some money to FFF.

As for today Sherly managed to save 2 dogs from Pulau Tengah. She did pick up another 6 puppies that were given away by someone. At least they won't be contributing to the stray problem smile.gif
*
Yes, today we've managed to get 2 of the strayed dogs as both also injured, in fact we also help other teams to get some dogs. It's not a competition of how many dogs we can get but it's about how much can we do for them.

QUOTE(MTD @ May 14 2009, 05:33 PM)
Although I am new here, I registered because I wanted to post appreciation to people like Sherly and Adrianck and their great many volunteers for actually saving these dogs from the hell hole. I myself, cannot do much except donate and transport donations to Furry Friends Farm. You are all unsung heroes and just by reading your posts and updates, I am getting teary because it is so heart-warming to know that the poor dogs are being rescued and on their way to a better life by these wonderful individuals and their team. Sherly and her team are sure one amazing rescue group, and so is Adrianck.

Both of your teams followed the correct procedures to rescue the dogs and all your sweat and effort paid off. A big good job well done !

Adrianck, I hope you and your volunteers will have a great time volunteering at FFF !  biggrin.gif
*
Thanks MTD. Thank you so much for your compliments. Guess, I just wish to share something at this late hour.

I'm actually very tired. As of my team of 35 members, 2 of them got infection due to the cuts on their body, 4 of them fell sick due to tiredness or may be weather, and others are seriously exhausted. It sounds like an easy job or may be fun thing for a lot of people but it's seriously hard, difficult, tough and dangerous. Actually all volunteers(not just my team but I mean everyone there) are risking their life to go to that hell island, face all the poison snakes, viruses and so on to save those dogs. There were so many incidents that happened, make me feel so tired. I'm tired of those people, who do things for the sake of popularity, I'm tired of those people who are not sincere in charity. In this rescue mission, is not just about physically tired but also mentally. How would you feel when you see bunch of dogs get stuck in the branches with snakes and you can't do anything about it? On our first day, we found a group of dogs (about 5 of them), we couldn't get them out because they were stuck with the branches, we got no choice and thought we could threw them some food and buy some time and get them out with weapon equipped the next day. Unfortunately, the next day when we went there again, I saw one of it died. Yes, some people might feel sad when hearing this, but what happen to those who experience this by themselves? I cried almost every night and couldn't sleep at all because I was disturbed by all this.

We manage to get 2 today and while we went off for lunch, I found a box of 6 cute puppies on the road side. I took all of them back. I just done argument with my family as I've got enough of pets at home, they disagree for me to bring in more as they think I should have consider about myself first. I insisted to keep the very last puppy that no one adopt him. It is now sleeping peacefully beside me while I'm typing all this with tears. I start to think, why are there so many people like to do things without the sincerity in heart? Don't they feel ashamed?

I'm not doing any charity event for popularity. Well, in real life, most person in charge of the homes that I know, which is countless, they do not know who is skysherly but I gave them a name to call me. They even promoted me to the welfare department, invited me with some functions of minister of home or whatever welfare department people, at the end of the day, they still do not know who am I but they know who can they call when they need any help. People here and also my team of members, they only know me as skysherly, a little girl who likes to go around to do all this work; at the end of the day, they will never what is my real identity as well. There were a few reporters interviewed me before but is there any need of publish to promote about me while it's not promoting for the home? No, I am not giving any credits to myself but I'm telling this out as a fact and to let people think, what is charity all about. A few of the people who really know me, they know, I won't even mind to risk my life for charity but I mind if anyone is doing charity sincerely or not.

Why are we talking so much here while there's no action taken? I'm sorry to Adrian again that I invaded your thread for all this stupid sharing again, but I was in an excited mood to share about my trip to the hell island and now I just wish to pour out a little bit of my thoughts after I've read all the replies here and also my experiences for this few days. I just hope people who are reading this, please be considerate to all volunteers there, even Adrian also put in a lot of effort in getting people to set up for the dog rescue campaign, I believe Adrian also had sleepless night too.

People, let it be Sabrina, Smith, Adrianck or even sKySherly, is that so important for the name? Overall we are only doing it for the dogs, for the living creature on Earth. If there is any support, welcome! Please support! If there's any disagreement, well, I'm sorry. We are not doing it for anyone to agree with what we are doing but we are doing it for the sake of charity.

Guess, I'm really running out of energy and don't know what am I talking already. I'm tired and good night, sorry for my long post. Please forgive me for the crap, I guess my heart and mind are still in the hell island, get stuck together with the dogs by the branches.

Sorry.
