If TS is collaborating with Sabrina (From Furry Friends Farm, where the dogs rescued will most likely end up) and TV Smith, here's the site where you can get more information and updates from them:

http://www.mycen.com.my/rescue/index.html

It's on the top bar of LYN forums too, in the red box.

If TS is planning to mount his own rescue mission, I strongly suggest that he colloborate with Sabrina and TV Smith instead of doing two seperate rescue missions, even as a LYN project. It would be much more easier and minimises risks. I've emailed them pledging monetary support and words of encouragement, and they have responded and I've donated to the cause. If you still don't get a reply, do try calling the numbers listed, or try to contact Furry Friends Farm.

http://furryfriendsfarm2006.blogspot.com

If you're serious in helping, try to contact them in any way possible.

And I don't think kibbles would be important on the rescue mission itself. What's important is getting the dogs out of the island and giving them medical care and attention. What's important is transportation (Boats, especially, since some boats are not big enough or some boats refuse to carry the dogs) and the money to pay for the cages, transportation and medical fees of the dogs. Kibbles can be donated afterwards to Furry Friends Farm.

No offense intended with my post.

Ah, that makes more sense then after your clarification. Thanks smile.gif

I suppose the number of dogs which can be rescued can be increased if not for the lack of suitable boats and manpower. But then again the dogs are afraid of humans (Don't blame them), and leaving/offering kibbles out for them might make them more friendly towards the rescuers and also at the same time provide them with food. Although, that being said, time is running out for the dogs, as quoted in the updates page:

QUOTE(TV Smith)
I get this feeling that these people will probably take the easy way and shoot all of the dogs quietly to eliminate the inconvenience it is causing them.

So I feel getting them out of the island and to a safe place would be more imperative.

Nevertheless, it's still a good effort.

More news on the issue.

I've been to Furry Friends Farm earlier. They are in real dire need of help in any way possible. The dogs there seem very happy, and I am also pleased to report that I have seen 3 of the dogs rescued (To date they have rescued 8, but the remaining are in the hospital for treatment)- Grace (The dog that swam to them), Hope (The first dog rescued) and Cleo (The poster dog). All three are doing well and are happy, and Grace is taking her meds (I was around when it was time for her to take her meds) well smile.gif

QUOTE(chibi_tenko @ May 11 2009, 06:19 PM)
Adrian, I understand why you say you do not wish to get into Sabrina and TV Smith's rescue effort at the other islands. I sincerely thank you for your efforts but we have to consider where we are going to place the dogs after we have gotten them off Pulau Ketam.

Like I've mentioned, I do not wish to participate if the rescued dogs are to be placed at SPCA because 80% of those rescued dogs will end up being euthanised due to lack of place at their compound. I have suffered the guilt of having one of the strays that I have rescued being put to sleep on the very same day that I sent them to SPCA and I WILL not again suffer the guilt of saving the Pulau Ketam strays only to see them being euthanised due to whatever reasons.

I am not a pro-life fanatic and I believe in euthanising animals that are in the last stages of their lives due to disease or internal injury - not because there's not enough space to place them.

Please, try to get hold of Sabrina and see if we can place some of older/sick dogs and puppies at her farm. Those dogs need more love and care than the healthier ones.

Please understand I'm not trying to be difficult but I want to make sure my efforts in saving those poor dogs will not end up having them being euthanised in the end even though they are not dying of terminal disease.
*
I have nothing further to add to this discussion, but to state that I agree with chibi_tenko and to say that it is the truth. There is a possibility that SPCA will euthanise the dogs rescued, particularly the older and sicker ones, and if they are, what's the point of saving them eh? Intrinsic motivation?

If you're really serious on saving the dogs lives, give them a fighting chance. Give them to some place where they can really live out the rest of their lives with love and care.

I, too, strongly disagree on sending the dogs to SPCA. We have to give them a fighting chance after the ordeal they have been through.

I'm one of the volunteers in FFF, and (Sorry if I am off topic) Sabrina really needs all the help she can get too. Currently on weekdays, she goes to Pulau Ketam in the mornings, goes to work in the afternoons and is at FFF at nights (Though she does drop by in the mornings as well). It's only during the weekends does she actually get to get any work around the sanctuary done- things like maintenance, housekeeping, bathing the dogs, etc. and with 100+ dogs, she can't do it alone. Currently FFF is open on Saturdays and Sundays to volunteers, but it's best to contact her just in case.

But for now, what's imperative is trying our best to save the dogs on the island.

Yes, there's only one shelter in Kundang. You can say that it's somewhere midway between Sg. Buloh and Rawang. Not very easy to find as it's rather isolated, but once you enter into Kundang town you can ask the villagers and they can tell you where it is.

Alternately, you can contact me or Sabrina for directions smile.gif

I have some news: A team of volunteers from Petsmore might be dropping by FFF this weekend or next weekend (Depending on the outcome of the meeting this evening) to see how they can assist.

The female form of Adrian is Adrienne tongue.gif

Good job on the rescue, guys! No wonder you all left rather hurriedly after TV Smith and Pummkin's appearance. I thought you all had left, without saying goodbye sad.gif

P.S. I can't believe you guys really took my idea to name the first dog you guys rescue after Adrian... laugh.gif

BTW, what do you guys want to look for as treasurer? I mean, since we're not handling cash, so what would the job description of the treasurer be? And since we're not handling cash, I suppose I could volunteer if it involves things like handling donations, keeping track, collaborating with you guys and/or FFF regarding the donated materials etc. (But not soliciting donations) I'm a very organised person so keeping track of things and handling stuff is quite easy for me >_> Although, that being said, I have to at first say that I will and may not be able to follow you guys around during the rescue missions due to other commitments- I'd mostly be at FFF.

Aww she's such a lovable doggie. Glad to know she's better off now smile.gif

BTW guys, I won't be going to FFF tomorrow, but my mother will still be bringing representatives of Petsmore there. They are donating dog food and some supplies (I will get more information on what tomorrow) to FFF. I have to stay at home and "jaga rumah" sweat.gif

Today, circa 12+ p.m., my parents along with some representatives from Petsmore Giant Kota Damansara went to FFF. The reason was that they wanted to see FFF for themselves and also to donate some supplies after hearing about the plight of FFF. They have donated dog food and supplies such as shampoo and deworming medication I believe. I will get a more comprehensive list of what they have donated when I talk to the manager of Petsmore Giant Kota Damansara. It is also believed that they will also try to help out and volunteer at FFF whenever their off days falls on weekends smile.gif

BTW, my mother is planning to take Cash home, but didn't because Sabrina wasn't at FFF today. She was at the vet.

Wow, so glad to hear that, Cash-the-manja found a good home rclxms.gif

We haven't bought Cash home la tongue.gif My mother still debating whether or not she should- she don't want to feel like we're "betraying" our dog in Labuan.

I have a few friends who stay near Ampang area, and could probably assist in helping locate Kuning. Maybe I could forward them the pics of Kuning and have them have a lookout. Although with the online furor Kuning's disappearance is creating, I doubt that he would be where most of us think he is sad.gif

I'm pledging to donate dog tags as well, but haven't decided on how many yet. However, I am donating some for certain smile.gif

For now S.a.D will probably do.

Just came back from FFF not too long ago- was just a short visit. Serene A is feeling jealous that the puppy's cage is right in front of hers and blocking her view tongue.gif Met TV Smith and Donald too. Hope's diagnosis came back as distemper, and it's confirmed. Hopefully she'll get better or make a full recovery. She's still hospitalised. Got the info directly from Sabrina.

I wouldn't mind donating the dog tags. Sometimes I have problems remembering the dog's names, so it would easier to look at their tags tongue.gif Plus they're not big amounts, so it's alright.

Since Sabrina was around today, wanted to bring Cash home for a week... but Sabrina said that Cash has to go with Joey. Cannot bring two dogs cry.gif She's so manja- I was petting Joey and then Cash came and pushed her head under my hand. Then when Sweetie and Cash tried to get my bf to pat them, Cash growled at Sweetie. Same when one of the dogs tried to approach my brother- Cash ran towards him and growled at the dog.

@chibi_tenko: I've asked them to be careful. They're probably going not on the pretext of trying to look for Kuning but to "have a look around". Nothing wrong with that right? I'll keep you guys updated if my friends spot any dog that resembles Kuning over there.

hmmm, looks like Cash is a jealous pig, she wants a full attention on her laugh.gif
Yukaeshi, why Cash has to go with Joey?

Yeah, Cash is very manja today haha biggrin.gif Sabrina said that Cash and Joey are very close together. When Joey was sleeping Cash slept beside her, and vice versa.

Argh sorry I was unable to attend the meeting tonight >_<

I might or might not be going to FFF tomorrow- some personal issues happened to me that I need to sort out, and am feeling down about it. My mother will be going, though.

Hey guys (And girls XD),

Just came back from FFF. Didn't regret going today as had fun with you guys biggrin.gif I will definitely be going next Sunday... as I have to. Sabrina has tasked me with:

1. Checking expiry dates of the food in the storage, and arranging them accordingly (e.g. Those that expire the first on top, etc.)
2. Doing a stock check and making an inventory list of what's in the storage.

That means that I have to move and rearrange everything in the storage... despite having done so earlier T_T

So... I guess I'll have to flex my Head of Logistics position muscles... I will need at least 1 (Maximum 2) volunteers to help me with the moving of the stuff in the storage next Sunday sad.gif I can move and carry the 10kg packets of rice and other stuff easily by myself... but the 22kg dog food is probably going to kill me. I will be there quite early, before 11am.
