QUOTE(mun2 @ May 11 2009, 06:03 PM) skysherly.. are you on a mission for the dogs in pulau ketam itself or those abandoned dogs in pulau tengah and other small island? I am bringing about 30++ people, we are going to separate to two teams to work on Pulau Ketam and Pulau Tengah. If let say Sabrina needs more help from me, I don't mind to shift a team for her, or even get another team for her, since she knows me (my dharma name).

Adrian, I understand why you say you do not wish to get into Sabrina and TV Smith's rescue effort at the other islands. I sincerely thank you for your efforts but we have to consider where we are going to place the dogs after we have gotten them off Pulau Ketam.
Like I've mentioned, I do not wish to participate if the rescued dogs are to be placed at SPCA because 80% of those rescued dogs will end up being euthanised due to lack of place at their compound. I have suffered the guilt of having one of the strays that I have rescued being put to sleep on the very same day that I sent them to SPCA and I WILL not again suffer the guilt of saving the Pulau Ketam strays only to see them being euthanised due to whatever reasons.
I am not a pro-life fanatic and I believe in euthanising animals that are in the last stages of their lives due to disease or internal injury - not because there's not enough space to place them.
Please, try to get hold of Sabrina and see if we can place some of older/sick dogs and puppies at her farm. Those dogs need more love and care than the healthier ones.
Please understand I'm not trying to be difficult but I want to make sure my efforts in saving those poor dogs will not end up having them being euthanised in the end even though they are not dying of terminal disease.

Since Adrian have spoken to the village head, we've managed to buy some time for those dogs. I'm very worried for the weaker and smaller dogs trapped at Pulau Tengah. Anyone here have access to fishing nets? If we can't grab the dogs, worse scenario is that we use fishing nets to catch them (if they're near the shore where there's not much trees + branches) Added on May 11, 2009, 6:26 pmQUOTE(adrianck @ May 11 2009, 06:24 PM) please be noted that we will have a online discussion of our coming mission later TONIGHT @ 9pm.... we will setting up a protemp working committee as im not able to handle everything here, lets be more transparent, work accuracy in our planning. those interested can add me on msn @ adran_ck@hotmail.com... I have nothing further to add to this discussion, but to state that I agree with chibi_tenko and to say that it is the truth. There is a possibility that SPCA will euthanise the dogs rescued, particularly the older and sicker ones, and if they are, what's the point of saving them eh? Intrinsic motivation? If you're really serious on saving the dogs lives, give them a fighting chance. Give them to some place where they can really live out the rest of their lives with love and care.

yes i myself do not agree on sending those dogs that we rescue on pulau ketam island to SPCA itself. I'm trying to contact some other dog shelter for those dogs. One of the consideration is 'Malaysian dogs deserve better project'. Unlike normal animal shelter, they will try to promote the dogs they have to be adopted by public.
I'm having problem with my msn now,stupid...will try to get back msn asap.

See you tonight at 9pm She needs a lot of help at Pulau Tengah and her farm too. It is obvious that the sooner we can get rid of those dogs in that hell island will be better. The worst condition is actually in Pulau Tengah, not Pulau Ketam, thus we will pay most attention in Pulau Tengah first. I might even organize a trip to help her out in her farm during one of the Sundays. I do strongly disagree to put the dogs with SPCA, what is the point of getting them out there and sending them to another place where they will also have high chance being put to sleep later on. They might be able to live even longer. Yes, one of the equipment you need is fishing net, just in case you really can't get hold of any of the dog, you need to set up some nice traps to get them but not those hurtful traps. Anyway, just try our best to save as many as we can.

I am a dog lover, I could volunteer bath the dog, give them a good scrap and massage.

I, too, strongly disagree on sending the dogs to SPCA. We have to give them a fighting chance after the ordeal they have been through.
I'm one of the volunteers in FFF, and (Sorry if I am off topic) Sabrina really needs all the help she can get too. Currently on weekdays, she goes to Pulau Ketam in the mornings, goes to work in the afternoons and is at FFF at nights (Though she does drop by in the mornings as well). It's only during the weekends does she actually get to get any work around the sanctuary done- things like maintenance, housekeeping, bathing the dogs, etc. and with 100+ dogs, she can't do it alone. Currently FFF is open on Saturdays and Sundays to volunteers, but it's best to contact her just in case.
But for now, what's imperative is trying our best to save the dogs on the island.

good morning! before i got post up yesterday meeting outcome, below are the findings of one of the volunteers whom stay back at pulau ketam overnight: 1) 17 different strays spotted since yesterday morning. possible hot site has been marked. identified 2 hot spot of the strays favorite ground. Ran off on the sight of human presence. 2)Night catch/mission are impossible, due to poor lightning and the risk of falling off from the platform are there.Strays senses human presence will ran off even from distances, a couple of fierce strays howled. Proof that there are in groups, possibly huge numbers, eg. at least 10-20. Stopped exploring as midnight approached. 3) Tidewaves didnt reach the inner part of the island, info from the locals stated it would be at random, whether high, medium or low tides. Strays dont always come out on the platform, but they do howl alot during the nights. 4) Went under the slits at around noon time. Very smelly and dirty as well. Found one dead puppy, lying on the muds, cant do much but to just leave it there as too deep into the below the slits. Pictures will be updated as soon as possible. Many thanks to Joyce for his contribution here 12.47pm Updates here: http://joyce-tedoen.com/house-to-house-underground/This post has been edited by adrianck: May 12 2009, 12:47 PM

Finally I'm back and can't wait to share.
We arrived the place at around 9 in the morning. We were separated into few boats to work together in getting the dogs, but seriously look at the place by myself, I couldn't hold my tears at all, not only me but quite a number from my members too. Why? Because it is really like a hell island, it looks so scary! It looks so pitiful for those dogs.
See, there's no place for anyone to stand on at all, whole island full with branches and trees, there are also a lot of poison snakes, eagles, and bones!!! Dead dogs around every where, from the boats we could hear the dogs barking, I guess they are barking for help, they are also in an urge to get out from that hell island.
Long story cut short, we tried many ways to get hold of the dogs but seriously couldn't. There are some dogs get stuck in the branches, we can't reach them. Most important, they ran very fast when they saw us. Pity them. We used food to make them come out but many times also they manage to run off. Luckily we manage to catch a puppy but with the price of a cut on one of the member's hand and I dropped my sun glasses. Well, overall, worth it!
We make a mistake for didn't carry enough of water with us, we ran out of water by noon, well we thought per person with 3 litres of water will do but who knows the weather is killing us! So we had no choice but to call it off earlier for today. We are going to set up traps to get hold of the dogs, as well we will be bringing some weapons with us such as parang, because of those blardy branches block our way. We do carry some big pieces of wood too so we use it to place on the boats and the branches, we could walk on it but it is very dangerous too. Actually this is not advisable but no problem la, do it quietly lo.
Anyway, the female puppy we manage to get by today was given a name -Gigi. It's because when we got her, she was shivering, like the sound of gi gi gi gi gi gi like that,so just name her Gigi. One of the member saw her so cute and decided to take her home, now she is with the vet I think.
I'm so tired , even this sound like nothing much for many people, even I have never thought it would be this tiring and exhausted but seriously, it's like killing. Not only physically but also mentally. Imagine those carcasses, dead dogs, skeletons around the mangrove shore, that island really deserved the name of "hell". Seriously it's a very scary nightmare.
Guess, that's all in my mind right now, really can't think of anything.

The Pulau Ketam dogs’ well being is important to us but utmost priority will be given to puppies, sick, old and pregnant dogs. Anyone here who knows where we can temporarily board the rescued dogs, please either reply to this thread or PM Adrian.
Agenda for this weekend
Although the initial plan was to start the rescue mission ASAP this weekend, we realized that at the moment we are still lacking of information such where the rescued dogs are to be sheltered and how to go about ‘catching’ the strays in Pulau Ketam. Careful preparation and planning is required, that is why we plan to pay a visit to Sabrina’s farm to discuss about boarding the rescued dogs at her place and perhaps discuss with her on the best method to ‘catch’ the strays.
16th May 2009 (Saturday) Activity: Ice-breaking cum brief discussion with the LYN Dog Rescue Mission members. Time: 9pm Location: SS2, PJ (exact location TBA)
17th May 2009 (Sunday) Activity: Pay a visit to FFF and discuss with Sabrina for next weekend’s excursion to Pulau Ketam Time: 12pm-5pm Location: Furry Friends Farm
======END=====
Special thanks to Celine for helping out to write the minutes.

Indeed, it is very hard and scary, I actually cried on the spot when I saw the place, may be I'm too weak to see that. For the time being, I don't know when will this mission end, I just hope I can do as much as I can for the poor dogs, just wish to get them out of there for the time being. If you are free, contact TV immediately!! They need a lot of help! Even donation also will be good. I'm lucky as I managed to raise up enough of funds from friends and team members to cover the cost for everything.
