here's what I think.. This type of gatherings is usually small scale.. If lets say Aquafair's next venue is PISA, Penang Island .. Then it will be a HUGE gathering . It's how I usually meet up with MAC members anyhows, usually small scale.

Just think, 3 of us meet up and talk fish for a good 1 hour or so .. Lots of resources shared already! (I think we left out tenchi LOL)

@meow
I just let off glossos 1 week ago.. and my mosses aren't at tip top condition lol.

then get some bacter 100 powder, no need whole bottle, 1~2 spoon enough, if they din sell, go jit sin area there(i heard cheap)
if really cannot find, ask some from chuppy, i bet he willing to help so....

errr... if co2 low, just open more co2 lor... rclxub.gif because u already have co2 in the first place when u mentioned "it's low". u didnt say u dont have co2 rite? ur problem is only it's low. so.... open more co2 lor from the regulator to increase the bps. tongue.gif

UGPM on the c02 set I'm quoting you.

What you lack now is a cooling method, c02 and lights..

Things went well with you and the LFS in Prangin? You bought soil only or full set?

Next time, don't meet in CTY.. No proper chit chat space.. We were standing in between Snakes and hamsters towards the end!!! LOL!

First between c02 tanks and well, tanks. Then around the crs zone.. the between the fishes and plants zone.. Not funny to see 3~4 men standing around and talking deeply into their conversation...(to the others I mean..) And I was enjoying overhearing a crs breeder giving cty a sweet deal though smile.gif

1) brand new 2L roughly cost you RM180~220, depends on the lfs...
2) then you have to buy the regulator
a) manual - RM60 (estimate)
b) solenoid - RM250 (estimate)
3) Diffuser/reactor
4) check valve
5) buble counter

1) brand new 2L roughly cost you RM180~220, depends on the lfs...
2) then you have to buy the regulator
a) manual - RM60 (estimate)
b) solenoid - RM250 (estimate)
3) Diffuser/reactor
4) check valve
5) buble counter

wow, quite pricey rite... no $$ already...
playerseeker, what is your measurement for DIY CO2? how many cups of sugar and yeast?
Mine I use about 1 full cup of sugar and then half teaspoon of yeast....

erm..just sharing here sis,

last time when i use DIY co2... each bottle will use 2 cup of sugar + 3/4 teaspoon of yeast. for me, this measurement will last me for about 1 week (by day 6th or 7th, the bubble start slow..so it;s time to make new). i us 2x1.5l coke bottle for every tank. the bubble rate come out is about 2-3bps as using pressurized co2.

the thing about diy co2, the more sugar you put and the less yeast you pour, the longer period of it will bubbling but at the same time, slower/lesser bubbles. just think of it like this for easy metaphore, yeast will eat the sugar and produce co2. so more yeast, more co2 will comeout because so many yeast eating at one time and so produced more co2. but more yeast + more co2, they need more sugar also.. if less sugar, they eat so fast and finish liao. so no more co2 when they have nothing to eat.

anyway, some others have experienced longer period but the basic math is just like that. find tune yourself for the best result that your tank needed (like how much co2 bubbles you need and how long your diy will lasts). just keep doing it and you;ll find the exact measurement for your tank. don;t always follow others in everything because your tank isnt same. use the measurement people give to calculate and make your own to suit your tank. heh...at least you have something to enjoy in this hobby to experiment with rite for starting tongue.gif

totally agree with usermode...

it's depends and u adjust it to ur liking...

like my nano tank....i dun need very high amount of CO2..so slow bubbles is okay for me......

my ingredient will be 1 pack of 500g caster sugar, half teaspoon of yeast and also baking soda.....fill half of the bottle with warm water...i used my house bathroom's heater water...then shake it well....after that continue to fill it to almost full.... biggrin.gif biggrin.gif....

chuppy chuppy chuppy......how how how???my hand gatai d........

Hi guys, Im new to aquascaping, hope to learn some tips from the sifus here biggrin.gif

I just recently bought some C02 pills, RM9 a box. Is this effective enough? Or should I invest into a proper C02 system?

Im from Penang btw, and normally i go to CTY and Fishop to buy my stuff.

FYI, CO2 is necessary for every plant....
just that some low maintenance plants can cope with the CO2 that inside the water(minimum content), but they will not grow nice....
even for those low maintenance plants, with or without CO2 u also can see the drastic change....

1) the DIY CO2, the purity of the CO2 compared with the pressurize tank, of course kalah la....
2) each time u prepare the so called sugar water and yeast, how much u spend? and how often u need to prepare again? 2L of CO2 tank, with 2bps, solenoid regulator cost you ~RM450, but can tahan for 4~6months, and each refill cost around RM30. long term wise, is more cost effective... and also bare in mind that u do not have to prepare the solution (sugar water) every week or so....
3) since i saw ur location is in damansara, u can try the lfs below;

AquaWorld aquatic center
D 008 Jalan PJU 10/3,
Damansara Damai,
47830 Petaling Jaya,
Selangor, Malaysia.

the owner is expert in planted tank, and very frendly ppl....
if u need his contact number, do pm me...

My humble guppy tank. Started 2 weeks ago so still very noob in this hobby. Need comments to improve smile.gif

Got my starter kit & grass from CTY. Currently using C02 pills.

If everything goes well, fishes don't die and grass grow well, then I might start a 2nd tank for tetras biggrin.gif

Sorry for lousy pics, I m not into photography.

HOLY CRAP rm 900 for a c02 system?? How big is that tank ?

Even with a solenoid, I doubt a normal c02 tank can cost that much. Maybe L or XL sized tanks.. but I don't recall seeing such products in Cty.

Plus, what grade is the shrimp you bought? Care to show some pics??

I notice a lot of Penang aquascapers here, they're sorta dominating this thread :S

And many are customers of CTY. Boy wouldn't they be happy to have you guys to buy their stuff biggrin.gif

What is CRS?

I saw from Fishop selling a small C02 tank, around RM200 for whole set and suitable for small tanks.

I am thinking of making a yeast C02, do I need a diffuser or an airstone?

Drew bro,

yes....there is such thing as that expensive actually. i saw a co2 set wrapped and covered like battery package at Pet Family but i dont really recall the brand but the package have green color for their brand. they do cost almost 1k. crazy stuff tho..but IMO, it's just a fancy stuff that you can actually replace with typical co2 tank and regulator. It's like you're comparing the DIY co2 and the fancy green cap bottle with ladder thingy to show your co2 bubble going up plus the co2 mixing powder which you need for the mixture tho.

the tank for it is not that big. it's roughly like the normal 2l (or 1.5l).. kinda small. with a fancy looking solenoid regulator (yeah, the knob looks sooooo comfortable to hold when you turn it on and off.. tongue.gif), with a diffusor that have a glass coil inside to show the bubbles going up, a bubble counter hmm...and i dunno what more...i "think" got some airhose and check valves too... not really sure. but yes, they do mentioned that's a complete co2 set. well..of course it's complete. LOL~!.... otherwise people will throw the tank to the seller if they cant get a co2 system working after paying that big bucks.

anyway, adrian bro....if i'm talking about the same thing as you saw in CTY and if i do have the cash to buy that thing, i will just buy a typical co2 solenoid system seperately. perhaps, i can even get 2 sets with that price. but hey....they do won something over the usual co2 tank and regulator with that price.... a fancy packaging and a brand embossed at the items and equipments. tongue.gif and dont forget the comfortable knob to turn on and off the solenoid regulator.

CRS = Crystal Red Shrimp (i think....please correct me if im wrong dear fellow shrimpers).

whole set? what the set have? how small is it? does it comes with a regulator? if at least a tank + a regulator for that price, please let me know where did u saw that tongue.gif

yeast co2 or whateva type of co2, a diffusor is highly recommended. yes airstone still can be use as well. at least better than have nothing, BUT... it's greatly not-recommended because airstone cant diffuse the co2 as fine as actual co2 diffuser. i only will use an airstone (yes i always have one of them for emergency use anytime) when i accidentally break my diffuser at night when i do maintenance or cleaning up. But for sure I'll straight run to any LFS and get myself another diffuser on the next day (this method is useful for me when i only get back home at 8pm after weekdays while my tank still need co2 for that day photo-period). heh...but luckily, i never had to do this so far tongue.gif

..... or erm...in other words, get urself a diffuser. it's not that expensive anyway. sweat.gif

If it is ADA Diffuser 30 o+ ADA Cabachon Ruby + Okay la.. Normal tubing + ADA c02 tower + ADA Solenoid Regulator... Then it can easily get to that price..

But as he stated.. ITS FREAKING JBL!!!!! blink.gif blink.gif (Plus CTY does not carry in ADA goods.)

Rather not spend my money there. sweat.gif

So my main point was rm900 for a co2 kit Cty has to offer.. I remain skeptical . Since I don't recall them bringing in anything like the famous Japanese brand LOL let alone the famous german filters.. :/

hmmm..been doing some little read up on them (Carinotetraodon travancoricus or Dwarf Puffers).... not many can be their tank mates after my reading that tells me these guys love to fin-nibbling. food,..hmm.. okay i;ve read that they love live black worms (which i dunno where to get anyway) or perhaps live bloodworms (also i never bu any before). the only live food i have is brine shrimp but they prefer those worms. hmm... nvm about that first.

my main concern is, im planning to put them in an iwagumi tank. which dont really have tall plants that these guy prefers. so im wondering if they can live here or not first....and also, how are they if having neon tetras as their tankmates. so far that i know, fin-nibblers usually looking for fish with fancy fins/tails like betta and guppies or endlers. i even put tetra with my betta and they living peacefully last time (but i put them together temporary only)...

i'll see if i can get any input with those above 2 issues then only can decide to have them. but one thing that i do know that they are VERY interesting fish after i read many reviews from other people that have em. they are curious fish, like to stare at you and in time, they'll know you... heh...seems like a fun fish to have. if i cant resist the attempt, maybe will setup one tank just for them LOL~!!!

C02 diffuser or reactor would be a good solution for properly diffusing it into your tank..

Reactors, I would only opt for them in larger tanks LOL! tongue.gif No science behind this(maybe) It's just me LOL.

Thanks, will check it out there too on Monday when free.. EA in Ikano didn't restock yet as they have to finish their remaining stones.

guys..i dunnu bout u guys but somehow i feel more comfortable to buy from small LFS as in mind i always think that those big shop like in ikano or midvalley will normally charge higher price because of the high rental

but i guess small LFS dun have much variety to

so yea..u have to buy anyhow.....hahahaahahhahaahah

just a thought tho..

hmm, for me, shop is not big issue as long i can get what i came for. i dun care whether it's small or big either old ah pek or leng chai owner. most important for me, they have a good review/reputation and knowledge and WILL NOT giving a false statement just because wanna sell their stuff. I dont mind paying for higher price when i know im paying for something that is right.

one more thing, i prefer a honest seller. if dunno just say dunno...dun say anything misleading. huh...so many records on some LFS i've been. once i encounter this, i will never come to that LFS anymore. well..that's just me. even the LFS is right beside my house.

eg 1: i did encounter a seller that keep telling me hairgrass and glosso cannot grow without a chiller (already giving a false statement) and keep asking and nag me to buy chiller he's selling.

eg 2: i once went to one LFS, their display tank got few types of mosses. i saw their spiky moss is quite healthy. then i asked them "do u have this moss for sale/stocked?" (pointing at that spiky) then they said "yes"... then i asked for a palmsize to buy. they just put their hands in the tank and start plucking a bunch of java moss. i told them i dont want that moss, i need the spiky (again i point my finger to the spiky). and that lady refuse to sell to me that spiky because the java moss is easier to pick up and saying "all is moss leh in this tank, u want moss i take moss lor.. now u say dun wan pulak. dun wan buy dun kacau la"...

bleh~!

Yea, sometimes big shops like in Ikano and Midvalley have to increase their price because of rental etc. But it all comes down to honesty in doing businesss.

I really like doing business with Slippery Little Suckers as they are very good and their price is very cheap too I can say. But they currently waiting for their stock for the ADA rocks so might as well just drop by at EA Midvalley as there are no rocks the same size. I hope I am lucky to find it though.

maintain 24-25oC ok mah since u got chiller... mine now hovers around 27-28oC during hot day... dun hav chiller... only fan blower...

oto n rummy nose can keep with shrimps... but if u plan to breed shrimps, make sure its shrimp only... coz fish loves to eat tiny shrimplets....

cover ur water filter inlet with sponge....

@catacombs
i wont mix betta and CRS in as a tankmates unless i can provide a LOT of hiding place for my shrimplets/shrimps. By nature...shrimps already fish's favourite food and betta, is a carnivore. he'll treat your shrimplets as a snack most of the time.

@Zangetsu
as drew said, that's a glosso.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, after some time i never post pic of my tank... i guess maybe now i can post some. Just happened to be quite free to take pic of my tank and taking out all the eqs. I'm no professional photographer and my cheap camera cant do its best as you guys. well, at least here's something...

hahaha... thanks drew bro for the reminder but nope, i am not entering IAPLC and i do aware of the "full tank shot" for IAPLC... but in fact, i wont enter any competition as my scape still not yet reaching a competition level yet (even MAC TOTM also dun dare to post). maybe 3-4 years later i might change my mind on entering IAPLC, but sure not for the moment or couple of years later. Currently is just for own satisfaction. as long im happy with the tank, and that's it. LOL~!!

heh...still a long way to go for me bro to reach a level like you guys.

hmm, anyway, any suggestion guys for fauna to put in my low tech nano cube? im thinking of a betta. but i scared it'll jumped out. without any aeration, i dun know any fish can stay alive in there for long except betta. can a tiny boraras live in a tank without aeration? LOL~!!...

@usermode, we improve by getting criticism. Just enter the AMC totm, I'm sure you'll fare well.

and I'd pity those boraras LOL!

also, Enter the IALPC to get experience, my entree last year was #8xx , not good. lol!! Let's see how i fare this year.

@pioneer
Do you dose c02? if yes, it's normal. C02 is acidic. Also, don't change your pH (intentionally) it does more harm than good.

@jushern
thanks bro. those are simple attempt anyway. and the tank you like the most is a low tech. it;s simple because cant do much in a tank with that size and limitation tho. (sleep.gif!)

@drew
im into this hobby not for competition. it;s just as hobby. something i can do when im free and actually to distract me from gaming too much now. MAC TOTM, hmm.. dunno lor..see la later if i have enuf confident to send one tongue.gif heh...for the critisim part, i myself have a bad habit in that... i dun give critisim and i also dun take one. i mean, i can accept critism, but i usually lazy to follow any (hard-headed+internal laziness). hahahah~!!!!

maybe i should keep snails in the low tech tank instead. *rolleyes*

@usermode, I'm not emphasizing on the competition and the loot, it's the response of the world, you know you're improving when people go wahh(like many here are at your pics now!) But gaming is addictive as always, good choice of hobby to distract you from it(You an I , same case!)

I suggest c02 first, no point getting a chiller when plant's can't thrive. biggrin.gif

Or just get both and be done with it.

In the second hand market, a CL650 is about rm 500~650

That's all I know off.

hahha... ya, i only post my tank pic when it's ready only (and also that will means the tank will be teared down soon and rescape). glosso, the way to plant it is by spreading em strain by strain preferably. and then use a tweezer, plant them deep in the substrate and just leave the top 1-2 leaves above the soil. plant these around 1cm close to each other. yeah, you'll for sure taking your sweet time with glosso to plant. that's normal. once you're used to it, you wont feel the pain so much.

@usermode, I'm not emphasizing on the competition and the loot, it's the response of the world, you know you're improving when people go wahh(like many here are at your pics now!) But gaming is addictive as always, good choice of hobby to distract you from it(You an I , same case!)

if i joined a competition, i'll target the loot. all competition i've join i want something to get. if i dun think i can bring any, i wont join. cool2.gif hahah~!! heh, at least i know i am not alone in this hobby with a gaming addiction problem. and you for your case, have more common with me... music, gaming and scaping (except maybe u are more into CRS while im sux with shrimps). even my mother keep telling me to stop gaming because she said it;s childish and not suitable for my age anymore...bleh~! shakehead.gif

@playerseeker
if you already own a proper co2 system, then go for chiller. otherwise, if i were you...i'll take co2 system first.unless you really dont plan to have planted tank (sounds like giving up huh) anymore and want to focus only at breeding CRS only. I agree with drew there... no points getting a chiller if your plant cant thrive or even survive. yeah i know co2 can be DIY easily, but hey....seriously. a proper co2 system is really worth it in the long run (that if you really wanna have a long run in the planted tank/aquascaping hobby anyway).

i think u can always ask drew nicely to help you with photographing part for IAPLC. right drew? not all scapers are good with photography. even me, im sux with it. if i really wanna join IAPLC, i will call my friend or any pro photographer to do the photoshoot. hahahah~!!!

I really suggest getting a c02 tank first.. So what if your water is cold and your plants are having trouble breathing? I mean mosses and ferns would be delighted, not too sure about others though. DIY c02 can do, but just save yourself the ehadache first LOL!

Guys, I have a problem with my fern. Why are my fern leaves having bleached out patches? It's like the chlorophyll has been pinched out of the leaf tips. Hope can solve this problem. TIA!!

im no expert bro with this kind of thing... it's just my assumption.

but as i said, im not an expert in this kind of thing. those are just my assumptions and my input might be wrong from the fact. maybe you want to wait for a more accurate advice from the pros. it'll be better if you can give your tank specs and list of plants in there also so the pro should know better about ur situation and might give you a more accurate symptom and advice to cure it.

heh but for me personally, if ONLY one or two leaves affected and if it;s quite serious, i'll just cut the leaf off and let it grows a new one. if it's just minor, i leave it like it be in hope nature will do its job but if getting worse or no sign of cured, i'll just cut the thing off again tongue.gif as long there's still some leaf for the fern, a new shoots will grows out.

Hi all,

A newbie question which I hope you guys can help. I have a 13L aquarium which i house about 15 guppies with pump. What kind of plants can I put in that can grow without oxygen pump? Have put in some before but looks as though they can survive. Some feedback would be appreciated.

erm... from my limited experience and knowledge, without airpump (which providing more o2 (oxygen) when a tank have more fish than it should hold) also almost all plant can live. but co2 (carbon dioxide) is the main thing.

maybe from you meant is co2. without co2, there'll be limited plant choice but still there's plant that can live. The most hardy plant IME is Java Moss. no matter what tank i put them (except a goldfish tank), they'll survive. with co2, no co2, pail... you can give this a try.
2nd one u can try Java Fern too. As long u didnt bury them in the soil and let the root in the water column, with a very low light they can survive.

some other low-light plant are anubias family, certain more type of moss (for me myself, 90% type of moss can..LOL~!), and few more types of fern like bolbitis (i think without co2 also still can live...never tried). just, dun bury their roots in the soil and give them some low lights when u have no co2.

just like what yu jin said.

anyway, you mentioned your tank got pump, what pump? well, as long your water surface is moving, then your tank already cycling and oxygen in the water. i assume u are mentioneng waterpump to pump tank water to overhead filter (or sump tank), then throw the water back into ur tank. the water splash already cycling an oxygen for ur tank FYI.

Thanks for the info bro, appreciate it lots!! nod.gif blush.gif No issues as I think this will be a trial and error sorta thing for me, even though it might be thru the hard way. tongue.gif
Actually my tank is a low tech tank, 2ft x 1.5 ft, doesn't run on any CO2 and only has a 15 watt 45cm florescent tube and overhang filter. As an update, even the unfurling leaf tips of the new leaf are now getting bleached out dark. The light is about 1 feet away from the water surface, so I don't know if the exposure is just about right.

I will take pics and post when I have the time. smile.gif

25c would be perrrfect.. Why can't you find 36 w ?? I thought I offered you lots of choices already .. They may not be great eye candy but it's most idealogic and practical for your tank size and budget.. If you're really keen on cosmetic views for such a small tank.. It'll be my nano light.. But that itself is already your overall budget LOL .. Try surveying more..

I think HC prefer temperature from 25C - 27C. but they still can survive at 27-29 (experiencing this atm). The lower temperature the better and "fresh" they'll looks. 22C...erm.. never tried. hahaha XD i never can get that temp.

my HC initially starts on 26C-27C and they're doing quite okay until recently the weather getting warmer and my fans cant get me lower than 27C anymore now even at night. average around 27C-28.5C and still my HC manage to pearls and grows. only thing is, they didnt looks as nice as before... those old leaf looks like getting burnt or something..the color is darker. bleh~! i just wish they survive until our country getting colder a lil bit.

p/s: i dun have aircond nor chiller.

55x4 is more acceptable if you ask me... Maybe mosses and ferns for 55wx2.. But I really don't advise you to light up so little of it!

hello all, here comes my first planted tank, running on mini filter with two 18w light, currently no fish or shrimps.

user posted image
water seems cloudy,i have to wait for the particles to be settled down.
the cork bark was there in order to content the empty region which has been filling with no plants.

side view
user posted image

plants are all populated in one side of the tank, due to the insufficient ADA soil.

the following photo has nothing to do with the tank, but i just found that this photo is unique.

your response and comment is awaited

ermm for me if u have extra money just buy 2nd hand co2 tank...coz at MAC got so many ppl wanna sell and also u can try at any LFS near kl also got...this is come article thats i found from other web about co2

CO2 is perhaps the most necessary component in a planted tank. Because the plants rely on photosynthesis for growth, most aquatic plants will need to assimilate CO2 in the water in order to carry out this process. In nature, CO2 flows with water, rain, as well as air. As such, the flowing currents of water serve the purpose of delivering CO2 to plants. In tanks, however, CO2 from water change is minimal, and those from contacts with air might be even scarcer. And once CO2 level goes down, plants will also become slower in growth. Thatโ€™s why we need to supplement enough CO2 into the tank.

Hi guys, I'm a newbie and need some help:

1) The cabomba in my tank are turning yellowish. What is the cause of it?
I am using C02 pills and have sufficient lighting. Is it because lack of C02, or I turn on my lights for too long?

2) At night when I turn off the tank lights, some of my guppies will become inactive and lie on the bottom, while some will swim on the surface of the tank.
Next morning, sometimes 1 will die. What is the reason? Lack of oxygen? If so, what is the remedy?

Thanks~

yo bro badrang, just out of curiosity, is there any specific reason u have CAE in your tank?

heh, just want to know only. because last time i've ditched my CAE from my guppy tank (not even planted tank) because they keep harassing my guppies. huhuhu~!! and not to mentioned the adult size of it... bleh, almost about 4 inch and its mouth can eat my fries and cherry with just a gulp. LOL~!!...

CAE isn't really suited for a small/medium size tank with community fishes, IMHO.

They're not really algae eaters and will get aggressive as they get older.

hey there bro, i think u better state out ur tank specs like the lights, photo-period, ferts u used, how often u dose the co2 pill and also the basic things, the size of your tank along with the rest i mentioned. Then you can get better help from others and more specifics. Otherwise, it'll be just a random guessing game. Since this time already be a guessing game and I love games, so I joined in tongue.gif

1) - sounds like lack of nutrients to me. imbalance or issuficient lights and co2 (more likely lights). but heh... just a wild guess tongue.gif

2) - fish will be inactive when the lights are off expecially at night. it's their sleeping/rest time. when the lights turned on in a sudden, the fishes will get stunted for a moment. it's normal.

fish gasping on the surface for air showing that they lack of oxygen to breath. either you get a powerhead or airpump, or reduce the amount of fish in your tank (might be overcrowded).

fish dies not only caused by one reason. there's a lot of reasons a fish will die. ammonia spike, overstocked, stress (most of the time), sick (also got alot of varieties in fish desease), and other. cant tell you why your fish die. most of the time, fish wont die in just a snap (except when u put them in a boiled water or something similar). they'll show some sign.... next time, observe any unusual habit of your fish and get your answers.

gd luck bro.

Really?! Which area are you staying? Maybe I can drop by to take it and treat you a dinner. Haha!  icon_rolleyes.gif
We can meet up somewhere near Bangi (weekends or weekdays after 8pm) or at Kelana Jaya (weekdays only). Just let me know whenever you wanna take it. But not this weekend please because I'll be at PD until Monday (duty calls... LOL~!!).

Btw, EA MidValley usually have some moss in their tank... packed and floated in the tank infront of their counter. Mostly are java moss and some spiky moss. You might wanna check it out (because not many people buying their moss for some unknown reason). Pet Family Taman Megah rarely got moss for sale. You're lucky if you can get some there.

There's an old LFS near the old Lim Kok Wing area (somewhere near the 7-Eleven, you'll notice their marine tank outside of the shop as display tank). In their freshwater display tank got few types of moss and a moss wall. They do have some mosses most of the time (but that auntie will give you any moss she can reach in that tank if you're asking for 'moss' because to her, all moss is same AND she wont let you pick the moss type that you want from that tank).

got myself some RCS today.... damn they are small, approx 1cm long.... didnt dare to release them into my primary tank as i have other fishes (rasbora, goby, corydora, guppy, kuhli loach)... afraid they might turn to be snacks....

holding them in my smaller quarantine tank... hopefully they will grow big faster so i can release a few of them in da primary tank...

i notice some of them turning red while others still transparent in color... mostly turning red ones stay calm under the water.... transparent ones sprinting all over the top n jz below water surface.... do u think they still not get used to the water parameter??...

@ catacombs, since it's such a small tank, I recomend small amounts but many times... Maybe 3-4 water changes(small) trough the week?

@ red dreams. use fans to lower down your tank temperature.. and I'd light up 22 watts as a minimal for a 1feet tank.

@zangetsu
bro, ur main stone isnt big enuf IMO and it looked blended among the rest of the stone. ur other stone, they looked too "nicely-arranged".avoid even (is it "even" for nombor genap?) numbers for your "visible"/obvious stones in iwagumi layouts. lastly for now, golden section doesnt mean all stones gathered there. it can be and it can be not to suit the balance. maybe you can post your full tank shot and let's see how it looks like.

oh, and another thing, the stones looks so "vertically" straight like stonehenge.

I have 3 x 3' tank and 1 x 4' tank. So wanted to ask all the sifu here which tank is a better choice to do a planted tank? Last time all of these is Cichlid tank but now wanted to try out the planted tank. Should I go for my 3' or 4'? Thx for the input! biggrin.gif

+1 icon_idea.gif

i think i already told u bro before rite? if u planning for iwagumi, u should have many rocks to choose from and to use from. You'll stuck in disadvantages and held from being creative when you have limited option for rocks in creating iwagumi. no need to mentioned some of them you should break em into small pieces for certain layout. huhuhu.... more more~!!! if i were you, i get another 2 times the amount from what you have in your tank at least for me to choose from. hahahah~!!!

personally, your 3rd option looks better. you need another group of rocks on the right hand side to balance out since your left hand side rocks isnt big enuf to be outstanding in the tank by its own. it;s just my opinion tho. if you like it that way, then it's up to you anyway.

keep rockin'!! thumbup.gif

I still think his rock scape isn't natural enough. Very symmetrical I'd say. And thank yu usermode for stressing my point. MORE SLOPE!!! Any good iwagumi needs that. (My 2feeter used 2 and a half bags of 9l soil) I believe you have more scape options when you can at least bury parts of your rocks in the soil..

Thanks for the compliment. tongue.gif
Yeah, my tank is very small only, 2.5ft..But good enough if just use it for shrimp-only tank.

I'm very like to use moss as a carpet plant, as i think they looks pretty, although some might think different.
Actually i tot of want to make a big turn over for my tank, changes the substrate, re-arrange the whole tank.
But it will takes a lot's of work, & also not to mentioned transferring the life stock, especially those shrimp.

So, i might just leave it as currently, wait til the time is suitable, then only i will do the big turn-over.

Well, i don't think i will tear down so fast.. i will still want to keep the way it looks, but might just remove the shrine & replace its with rocks. smile.gif

The only down point to the tank is that my house only got 1 place to put the tank, & the place you can only view 80% of the tank, which is what you view it now. sweat.gif

LOL, our beloved BBA....~!! w00t~!! rclxms.gif

@rySse
as drew said some way to get rid of them. IME, i had been attacked with BBA at almost everywhere in my tank. even it;s not serious but it's all around. Filter inlet, leaves, rocks and even at my co2 hose. huhuhuhu~!! having fun with em last time biggrin.gif

what I've done are :
    a) Filter Inlet (or hose) : take out the filter inlet pipe. put under running tap water and use aquarium sponge and clean them by rubbing them a lil bit hard. some is firmly rooted..just use ur finger to pick it. it'll be easily plucked off if do correctly. For the inside part that you cant reach by ur finger, u can always use tweezers but might be a lil bit challenging. Other way for these affected area are, bleach them~!!! whistling.gif (but i never try or use it anyway).

    b) Plant Leaves : just cut out any that affected and scoop em out and throw away tongue.gif

    c) Stones (or any place that cant use direct Excel method) : Buy the eyebrow picker at pasar malam for RM2, and pluck them out from the base. some might be a lil bit hard to be plucked. dun worry...just use ur hand if you can reach it.

    d) Mosses (yes, I got BBA on my US fissidens before..bleh~!) : Use Small scissors and trim the BBA nicely and as short as you can without snipping the moss (if snipped lil bit is okay), then leave it to your SAE to clear em up for you. You dont want to use Excel Spot Treatment when they're on mosses..... shakehead.gif
Try to do manual removal as much as you can. Make sure your co2 is consistent and fert accordingly. well, at least after you;ve cleared up as much as u can by manual removal, throw in one (or 2 based on ur tank size) juvenile SAE. They'll take care the newly growth BBA and will keep BBA at bay while at the same time, u try to gain control back over your Co2 and fert. Observe your tank in a week or two after manual removal and after you've put SAE in there. help your SAE as much as you can to remove the BBA. simple math,... you help them, they'll help u later in the long run. This is what i'm practicing tongue.gif

Once you get back your co2 and fert balance, you can move your SAE or leave it there. It;s your call. My way is not the best way I'm sure but at least I prefer to do that way and as another alternate way for you to try out perhaps. It's just I try my best to not using any chemical way to fight algae (only green water i always surrender and use UV filter). You may follow Drew's suggestion too anyway as it's been recommended by all over the pros discussion.

Keep in mind that battling algae is fun sometimes. Feel the feeling when you;ve won the battle rclxm9.gif Just enjoy the battle and have fun. dont stress out and good luck~!

From my limited knowledge and research previously, BBA will pay a visit when there's unstable supply of co2. i dunno it for sure when I have 24/7 co2 supply at the same rate. Some says when there's a dead spot in the tank...also not really true for my case. But there might be a logic when there's unstable balance between your co2 and ferts. For me personally, BBA will just come whenever they feel wanna pay a visit in any of my tank even when everything is consistent. I dunno..it;s like a hotel for them for my tank.. hahaha~!!!

@Pucca
cant really see the fry...but damn, im jealous. how come my otto wont breed. sweat.gif again, congratulations bro~!! maybe you can be one among the hobbyist that breeds otto and sell to us cheaper than LFS tongue.gif as you already know, Otto is among the highest demand in cleaner crew tongue.gif
