wow, quite pricey rite... no $$ already...
playerseeker, what is your measurement for DIY CO2? how many cups of sugar and yeast?
Mine I use about 1 full cup of sugar and then half teaspoon of yeast....
for DIY CO2 rite, is it sufficient enough to plant grass? cause my grass started to yellow again... sigh.keep on fail...
*
erm..just sharing here sis,

last time when i use DIY co2... each bottle will use 2 cup of sugar + 3/4 teaspoon of yeast. for me, this measurement will last me for about 1 week (by day 6th or 7th, the bubble start slow..so it;s time to make new). i us 2x1.5l coke bottle for every tank. the bubble rate come out is about 2-3bps as using pressurized co2.

the thing about diy co2, the more sugar you put and the less yeast you pour, the longer period of it will bubbling but at the same time, slower/lesser bubbles. just think of it like this for easy metaphore, yeast will eat the sugar and produce co2. so more yeast, more co2 will comeout because so many yeast eating at one time and so produced more co2. but more yeast + more co2, they need more sugar also.. if less sugar, they eat so fast and finish liao. so no more co2 when they have nothing to eat.

anyway, some others have experienced longer period but the basic math is just like that. find tune yourself for the best result that your tank needed (like how much co2 bubbles you need and how long your diy will lasts). just keep doing it and you;ll find the exact measurement for your tank. don;t always follow others in everything because your tank isnt same. use the measurement people give to calculate and make your own to suit your tank. heh...at least you have something to enjoy in this hobby to experiment with rite for starting tongue.gif

HOLY CRAP rm 900 for a c02 system?? How big is that tank ?

Even with a solenoid, I doubt a normal c02 tank can cost that much. Maybe L or XL sized tanks.. but I don't recall seeing such products in Cty.

Plus, what grade is the shrimp you bought? Care to show some pics??

I notice a lot of Penang aquascapers here, they're sorta dominating this thread :S

And many are customers of CTY. Boy wouldn't they be happy to have you guys to buy their stuff biggrin.gif

Drew
*
Drew bro,

yes....there is such thing as that expensive actually. i saw a co2 set wrapped and covered like battery package at Pet Family but i dont really recall the brand but the package have green color for their brand. they do cost almost 1k. crazy stuff tho..but IMO, it's just a fancy stuff that you can actually replace with typical co2 tank and regulator. It's like you're comparing the DIY co2 and the fancy green cap bottle with ladder thingy to show your co2 bubble going up plus the co2 mixing powder which you need for the mixture tho.

the tank for it is not that big. it's roughly like the normal 2l (or 1.5l).. kinda small. with a fancy looking solenoid regulator (yeah, the knob looks sooooo comfortable to hold when you turn it on and off.. tongue.gif), with a diffusor that have a glass coil inside to show the bubbles going up, a bubble counter hmm...and i dunno what more...i "think" got some airhose and check valves too... not really sure. but yes, they do mentioned that's a complete co2 set. well..of course it's complete. LOL~!.... otherwise people will throw the tank to the seller if they cant get a co2 system working after paying that big bucks.

anyway, adrian bro....if i'm talking about the same thing as you saw in CTY and if i do have the cash to buy that thing, i will just buy a typical co2 solenoid system seperately. perhaps, i can even get 2 sets with that price. but hey....they do won something over the usual co2 tank and regulator with that price.... a fancy packaging and a brand embossed at the items and equipments. tongue.gif and dont forget the comfortable knob to turn on and off the solenoid regulator.

What is CRS?

I saw from Fishop selling a small C02 tank, around RM200 for whole set and suitable for small tanks.

I am thinking of making a yeast C02, do I need a diffuser or an airstone?
*
CRS = Crystal Red Shrimp (i think....please correct me if im wrong dear fellow shrimpers).

whole set? what the set have? how small is it? does it comes with a regulator? if at least a tank + a regulator for that price, please let me know where did u saw that tongue.gif

yeast co2 or whateva type of co2, a diffusor is highly recommended. yes airstone still can be use as well. at least better than have nothing, BUT... it's greatly not-recommended because airstone cant diffuse the co2 as fine as actual co2 diffuser. i only will use an airstone (yes i always have one of them for emergency use anytime) when i accidentally break my diffuser at night when i do maintenance or cleaning up. But for sure I'll straight run to any LFS and get myself another diffuser on the next day (this method is useful for me when i only get back home at 8pm after weekdays while my tank still need co2 for that day photo-period). heh...but luckily, i never had to do this so far tongue.gif

..... or erm...in other words, get urself a diffuser. it's not that expensive anyway. sweat.gif

oh... yeah i saw this guy at EA MidValley. it does looks funny... hahaha.. just i dunno how suitable in a scape tank. i dun want them to dig my foreground plant that's the most important. i always wanna do some research on them.. but when i get back home, i always forgot its name. hahaha~!!!

not enuf food it will die? that guy only eat snails? uh... no other commercial fish food that will attract him? doh.gif damn...scared they'll die in my tank because my tank not really heavily infested with snails. got some..but not that much. dunno will it suit their diets or not. nvm.. i might give them a try later... after i am sure they wont dig my plant sweat.gif ~!!

hmmm..been doing some little read up on them (Carinotetraodon travancoricus or Dwarf Puffers).... not many can be their tank mates after my reading that tells me these guys love to fin-nibbling. food,..hmm.. okay i;ve read that they love live black worms (which i dunno where to get anyway) or perhaps live bloodworms (also i never bu any before). the only live food i have is brine shrimp but they prefer those worms. hmm... nvm about that first.

my main concern is, im planning to put them in an iwagumi tank. which dont really have tall plants that these guy prefers. so im wondering if they can live here or not first....and also, how are they if having neon tetras as their tankmates. so far that i know, fin-nibblers usually looking for fish with fancy fins/tails like betta and guppies or endlers. i even put tetra with my betta and they living peacefully last time (but i put them together temporary only)...

i'll see if i can get any input with those above 2 issues then only can decide to have them. but one thing that i do know that they are VERY interesting fish after i read many reviews from other people that have em. they are curious fish, like to stare at you and in time, they'll know you... heh...seems like a fun fish to have. if i cant resist the attempt, maybe will setup one tank just for them LOL~!!!

they do take frozen blood worms if i am not mistaken. ghost shrimps are easy to find too. hey usermode, when you visit EA Mid Valley did you see any large Ryou stones there? still looking one more to replace my Kurokinryu stone. Very annoyed with the difference in colour of these two stones.  Ryou stones are darkish grey/black in colour if you are not sure which is which.
*
ah...i just went there last night for a short visit buying a fan. LOL~!!... didnt noticed at the stones area. but hey, when is the last time you were there? last weekend (a week ago) i went there to refill my co2 and they have restocked their stones. but i didnt look for any stones atm (and didnt bring enuf cash actually too), so i didnt actually browse the stones. i just noticed their stones box from far is full again. at least their ada stones. ryou stones i cant be so sure. maybe you wanna check it out? i dunno when im going there again...maybe next monday after they restocked their plants.

hmm, for me, shop is not big issue as long i can get what i came for. i dun care whether it's small or big either old ah pek or leng chai owner. most important for me, they have a good review/reputation and knowledge and WILL NOT giving a false statement just because wanna sell their stuff. I dont mind paying for higher price when i know im paying for something that is right.

one more thing, i prefer a honest seller. if dunno just say dunno...dun say anything misleading. huh...so many records on some LFS i've been. once i encounter this, i will never come to that LFS anymore. well..that's just me. even the LFS is right beside my house.

eg 1: i did encounter a seller that keep telling me hairgrass and glosso cannot grow without a chiller (already giving a false statement) and keep asking and nag me to buy chiller he's selling.

eg 2: i once went to one LFS, their display tank got few types of mosses. i saw their spiky moss is quite healthy. then i asked them "do u have this moss for sale/stocked?" (pointing at that spiky) then they said "yes"... then i asked for a palmsize to buy. they just put their hands in the tank and start plucking a bunch of java moss. i told them i dont want that moss, i need the spiky (again i point my finger to the spiky). and that lady refuse to sell to me that spiky because the java moss is easier to pick up and saying "all is moss leh in this tank, u want moss i take moss lor.. now u say dun wan pulak. dun wan buy dun kacau la"...

bleh~!

@catacombs
i wont mix betta and CRS in as a tankmates unless i can provide a LOT of hiding place for my shrimplets/shrimps. By nature...shrimps already fish's favourite food and betta, is a carnivore. he'll treat your shrimplets as a snack most of the time.

@Zangetsu
as drew said, that's a glosso.

Well, after some time i never post pic of my tank... i guess maybe now i can post some. Just happened to be quite free to take pic of my tank and taking out all the eqs. I'm no professional photographer and my cheap camera cant do its best as you guys. well, at least here's something...

hahaha... thanks drew bro for the reminder but nope, i am not entering IAPLC and i do aware of the "full tank shot" for IAPLC... but in fact, i wont enter any competition as my scape still not yet reaching a competition level yet (even MAC TOTM also dun dare to post). maybe 3-4 years later i might change my mind on entering IAPLC, but sure not for the moment or couple of years later. Currently is just for own satisfaction. as long im happy with the tank, and that's it. LOL~!!

heh...still a long way to go for me bro to reach a level like you guys.

hmm, anyway, any suggestion guys for fauna to put in my low tech nano cube? im thinking of a betta. but i scared it'll jumped out. without any aeration, i dun know any fish can stay alive in there for long except betta. can a tiny boraras live in a tank without aeration? LOL~!!...

@jushern
thanks bro. those are simple attempt anyway. and the tank you like the most is a low tech. it;s simple because cant do much in a tank with that size and limitation tho. (sleep.gif!)

@drew
im into this hobby not for competition. it;s just as hobby. something i can do when im free and actually to distract me from gaming too much now. MAC TOTM, hmm.. dunno lor..see la later if i have enuf confident to send one tongue.gif heh...for the critisim part, i myself have a bad habit in that... i dun give critisim and i also dun take one. i mean, i can accept critism, but i usually lazy to follow any (hard-headed+internal laziness). hahahah~!!!!

maybe i should keep snails in the low tech tank instead. *rolleyes*

*
hahha... ya, i only post my tank pic when it's ready only (and also that will means the tank will be teared down soon and rescape). glosso, the way to plant it is by spreading em strain by strain preferably. and then use a tweezer, plant them deep in the substrate and just leave the top 1-2 leaves above the soil. plant these around 1cm close to each other. yeah, you'll for sure taking your sweet time with glosso to plant. that's normal. once you're used to it, you wont feel the pain so much.

@usermode, I'm not emphasizing on the competition and the loot, it's the response of the world, you know you're improving when people go wahh(like many here are at your pics now!) But gaming is addictive as always, good choice of hobby to distract you from it(You an I , same case!)

Drew
*
if i joined a competition, i'll target the loot. all competition i've join i want something to get. if i dun think i can bring any, i wont join. cool2.gif hahah~!! heh, at least i know i am not alone in this hobby with a gaming addiction problem. and you for your case, have more common with me... music, gaming and scaping (except maybe u are more into CRS while im sux with shrimps). even my mother keep telling me to stop gaming because she said it;s childish and not suitable for my age anymore...bleh~! shakehead.gif

@playerseeker
if you already own a proper co2 system, then go for chiller. otherwise, if i were you...i'll take co2 system first.unless you really dont plan to have planted tank (sounds like giving up huh) anymore and want to focus only at breeding CRS only. I agree with drew there... no points getting a chiller if your plant cant thrive or even survive. yeah i know co2 can be DIY easily, but hey....seriously. a proper co2 system is really worth it in the long run (that if you really wanna have a long run in the planted tank/aquascaping hobby anyway).

Added on May 4, 2009, 11:20 am@tenchi
i think u can always ask drew nicely to help you with photographing part for IAPLC. right drew? not all scapers are good with photography. even me, im sux with it. if i really wanna join IAPLC, i will call my friend or any pro photographer to do the photoshoot. hahahah~!!!
