Since things are pretty quiet here, below are photos of my HT setup for those who have waited patiently and just to liven up the thread a bit. But first a warning to all sifus, towkays and taikohs of HT here; view at your own risks as you may have a heart attack or vomit blood or both.
They break all the rules of HT placement (OK, the sub is on the floor) and sure not going to win any prizes (maybe except for the most ridiculous HT setup). Here goes........... Just a re-cap, my beloved Gold Class seat from my beloved. ![]() The overall setup, the obvious items are not labelled. AVR is behind LCD TV. ![]() Closeup of my AVR and BD players ![]() The satellite surround speaker, really up in the air; don't play, play. No space for width so go for height, also can mah. ![]() There folks, this is my true 5.1, 2-D, HD set-up complete with built-in diffusers, absorbers, reflectors, etc, albeit all in the wrong places! The overall hardware cost less than RM4K (not counting the seat, free) but the enjoyment is priceless. The moral of the story is that you do not have to spend a fortune to enjoy a HD home theatre. But for those who have a fortune, go ahead and spend it but for the less fortunate, start small. Space constraints should also not be an excuse, just work around it, literally. Of course this is not an ideal setup; if you drive a Kancil, don't expect a BMW experience but it will still get you from point A to point B. Anyway, it is better than riding a bicycle, akin to watching BD on CRT and listening through TV speakers - no offence meant for those concerned but just for good fun, hehehe! |

What you see are not just books but magazines, DVDs, CD's and now BDs; all accumulated over the years. Number of books? Don't really know, just keep adding book shelves until just enough room to walk only so HT also have to squeze in between!
Ya, it is actually my library, the HT is just an afterthought but nevetheless, still enjoyable! This post has been edited by ronaldkwok: Feb 23 2011, 12:50 PM |

Ronald, the satellite speaker look like it's out in orbit
Kudos to you. If the movie is long and draggy you can always take out a book and read to kill time, I guess. |

QUOTE(terranova @ Feb 25 2011, 01:03 PM) @ ronald - thanks for sharing. just curious, does the remote work for the avr and bdp despite being blocked by the tv? Surprisingly, the remotes for the avr and one bdp work despite there is no direct line of sight. For the Denon avr, I can even point right in front of the TV while for the Samsung bdp I need to point towards the left side but still without getting up from my seat. The remote for the LG bdp does not work though, need to get in front of the player, argh. This post has been edited by ronaldkwok: Feb 25 2011, 05:08 PM |

QUOTE(sotong168 @ Feb 25 2011, 01:09 PM) Wat? u can read titles of my books?? Ya, some of it. Also thanks to all the kind comments from the others. Anyway to be fair to the TS, bro g88 who gave a format for this thread, below are details of my HT as required, for sharing only. TV Model : 32" Toshiba 32AV700, RM1200 (now can get below 1K) HD Ready only. Amplifier : Denon AVR1610, RM1299 (now only RM999, sigh) 5.1 HD. Front Speakers : Weige MF6386 Center Speaker : Weige AV626 Surround Speakers : Also Weige but don't know which model since now in orbit. Total cost of speakers about RM500 from Carrefour as a set with amp that already died. Cannot remember actual price since >10 years old now. Subwoofer : Volcano 9", no model number. Think about RM300, 10(?) years old now. Interconnect/Cable : HDMI cable - RM20 type from Tesco, Sri Com and FOC from BD player; speaker cables, FOC - left over from office work; subwoofer cable - standard RCA, FOC that came with old DVD player. BD player: Samsung BD-C5500, RM399 HD Media player: HDPro R1055, RM199 So total hardware cost below RM4K. Definitely not a dream system for HT sifu/towkay/taikoh, more of a nightmare actually in terms of placement but still enjoyable all the same.
