The sound quality definitely different before the installation. thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif . ...much-much better....did not expect this at all...the purpose of the renovation was just for the appearance but now I got both (appearance & sound quality) drool.gif  drool.gif  .... but not sure whether it is due to the wallpaper or carpet or both  hmm.gif  hmm.gif .... maybe you can ask some of the sifu in LYN...they have more information on this matter..

here's the pics.....its not that thick but it has rubber elements on top of the paper.....if you got a lot of $$, then you can opt for RM220-RM250 per roll...serious bro...it looks stunning wink.gif  wink.gif ..it is even thicker than my wall paper....
In your case I reckon the carpet made more of a difference compared to the wall paper.

Tq, bro. I'll 'darkened' the screen casing when I am free to make everything almost 'invisible' when watching movie.

The surround is on SCS-01(M). It is basically a 7.1 setup with Front Wide. Still doing some tweak on LFE.

Please do come over whenever you are free.
*
Probably need some black velvet to darken the screen border.

I'm sure it will be an impressive demo room once you've done all the tweaks. Hope I'll be able to visit Seremban again... probably around middle of the year.

i have a question.

Why i see lots of setups where the amp/players are placed under the screen? Dont the led lights from the amp/player distract movie watchers when watching movies? Imaging a dark scene where the screen is totally dark and you see dts hd master on your amp and Blu-ray 107.43 on the player. Wouldnt it be less distracting if the amp/players are placed at the side of the home or better still at the back (nearer to the projector (less cost on HDMI cable)) and easily reachable. Dun have to walk all the way to the front to turn off the power socket for example.
*
Usually positioning of equipment is due to space constraint. Rooms are normally longer as compared to width, so usually got more space in front. As for the back, many people might not have space since the couch is pushed close to back wall.

Also if your equipment is at the back, you'll always be pointing the remote control backwards (rather funny angle). You talk about saving money on HDMI cable if equipment at the back, but then you spend more on speaker cables for LCR. In the end not really saving.

As mentioned by maskedchan, many equipment can dim the LED so it's not distracting. You only have a problem if some lights cannot be dimmed. Example the power switch on Emotiva XPA. The blue light is quite bright and can't be turned off mad.gif.

That's why I had my Emo at the back of the CDP and BDP. Rather distracting.

Btw, still busy lately? Do you play around with F-15 position?
*
Yes, still been busy recently. Haven't wandered into the HT since my AE3000 sent for service.

I think horizontal center speakers were created to solve the placement issue. While having a vertical speaker (which is the same as the LR fronts) is ideal, most people do not have the space to do it that way.

On this forum I know pierreye is lucky enough to be able to do that with this JTRs.

Wont the screen be too high?
*
Depends on your viewing distance and also height of your speakers.

In many cases the screen can be about 2.5' - 3.5' above the floor. If you can find a speaker below that height and assuming you don't have any cabinet or furniture below the screen, then you're ok to have a vertical center speaker.

Congrats for the incoming HT room setup.  Given me a choice I would do the projector rail racking that can move back and forward like some of the demo room for future upgrade as different projectors have different throwing distance.
*
The other alternative is use the pj's zoom control to adjust.

I guess only lcd projector has the zooming ability.

I think most pj's have zoom function. But perhaps the level of zoom may differ.

I am living in a 2.5 storey house and have an extra masterbedroom at the highest floor. Problem is that the room is attached to my neighbor's room. Will placing at least a 4-6" rockwool insulation help in preventing bass and vibration to travel through the wall to my neighbor's room?
*
The rockwool will help to reduce bass to your neighbour, but won't eliminate totally.

The thicker the better then? how about flooring? thick carpet? and definitely Auralex or similar type foam beneath the subwoofer. Anyone doing soundproofing their windows? Double layer?
*
For absorbing bass generally the thicker the better. From reading the Net the min recommended thickness is 4", of course you can do thicker but it will eat into the room.

But don't overdo it until your room sounds 'dead'. I know your main goal is soundproofing (so as not to disturb neighbour) but you gotta balance that with maintaining good acoustics too. This part better check with the experts. Maybe the Auralex vendor (Center Circle) can advise you better.

Nice room nyquil.

Yes, getting a good sub will really anchor the HT experience. Together with new speakers, it will be a magnitude higher than what you are used to with your Yamaha set.

I see you have the walls and ceiling painted grey. I would suggest you also paint the wall behind the screen darker.

For 13' distance you can definitely go bigger than 90". I would suggest ~ 110".

Hmmm...the screen wall only 13', length about 17'. it's a huge room but it's 'L' shaped. and the toilet wedged at the corner. Guess with 120" screen and sitting 13' away should be OK. but the rear speaker should have a minimum distance from the seating position?
*
120" screen from 13' away is near the limit. It's doable if you like the 'up front' experience.

Are you running 5.1 or 7.1 setup?

Yes, it is advisable to have the rear speakers a few feet away from your seat.

jchong,

Can I put up a 90" screen on 11.5ft width wall with seating position at 12.5ft? If not, what is the best screen size, 80"?
*
The main factor will be your seating distance. At 12.5' away you can take 100"-110" screen.

Generally speaking you should aim for minimum a 30-degree field of view.

I was asking if we can install 2 woofers. instead of 1
*
You can install any number of subs. There are fellas on AVS who have 8 subs!

Having multiple subs can help to even out the frequency response and also improves the performance headroom.

Now that is the answer i was looking for. thanks. Gotta read up on the positioning then.
*
Yup, setting up multiple subs to have them all integrated properly is quite an art. Positioning is one factor, then setting phase, crossovers, etc...

One way to make it easier is buying a separate sub-equalizer like the AS-EQ1.

Don't you feel 100" screen with viewing distance at only 12' a bit too large to our eyes? They say if screen too large you will feel  rclxub.gif  after hours of watching a movie.
Can you elaborate on 30 degree viewing p/s? Thanks.
*
30 degree field of view means the screen width should occupy 30-degrees of your vision. It's hard to visualise I know.

Easiest way to calculate is to use this tool: http://carltonbale.com/home-theater/home-theater-calculator Download the Excel file.

100" screen at 12' = 33.7 degree FOV. Still acceptable, but depends on each person.
